1 October 7, 2018 WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY The annual Oak Grove Barbecue is one of the ways this neighborhood defines itself. It is homecoming and nostalgia, friendships and food. The Barbecue provides a wonderful way to invite people to Oak Grove, and around a table of food, many friendships have been built. In relationships we find roots for soul, and joy for our heart. Each year I look forward to the fellowship we share in serving and preparing 5,000+ plates of food, and even more so I look forward to hosting the community at Oak Grove. It is always my hope that guests at the barbecue will want to to return Oak Grove for worship, Bible Study, or small groups. I hope that our neighbors will want their children brought up in the nurturing, loving environment of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. I love to see the young Cub Scouts running from table to table to clear the plates. (Pro Tip: Don t turn your back on your plate when a Cub Scout is near; you will lose your plate in a skinny minute!) These kids are building memories. at Recently KingsBridge retirement village I visited with the CEO. He shared his memories of coming to the Oak Grove Christian School when he was a child, and I was reminded how important these seemingly small events are in shaping who we are. The Barbecue includes some great food, and the United Methodist Men and United Methodist Women will make profits that help mission. However, for me, I celebrate that memories for a lifetime are being built and friendships across the generations are being nourished. Come, taste, and see that the Lord is good! And invite a friend!

Sermon Half Truths: Dr. McBrayer Name It and Claim It Holy Communion A Service of Word and Table II UMH 12 The sacrament of communion is a sign and means of receiving God's grace. Therefore communion, like grace itself, is available to all people without regard to age, church membership status, relationship to Oak Grove, or denominational affiliation. The table belongs to God, so all are welcome. There is a mobile station for worshipers who prefer to be served in their seats. If you prefer gluten-free elements, please go to the station to the left of the pulpit. You are always welcome to choose any station by simply walking to the station of your choice. Once you receive the bread, please dip it in the grape juice in the chalice. In our tradition worshipers do not drink from the chalice. After receiving communion you may kneel at the chancel to pray or return to your seat. Duet (11:00) In Remembrance Buryl Red/arr.
