Therefore communion, like grace itself, is available to all people without regard to age, church membership status, relationship to Oak Grove, or denominational affiliation. The table belongs to God, so all are welcome. There is a mobile station for worshipers who prefer to be served in their seats. If you prefer gluten-free elements, please go to the station to the left of the pulpit. You are always welcome to choose any station by simply walking to the station of your choice. Once you receive the bread, please dip it in the grape juice in the chalice. In our tradition worshipers do not drink from the chalice. 6 OAK GROVE NEWS July 2, 2017 Service of Lessons and Hymns For Independence Day One Service Only, July 2, 11 a.m. Featuring great hymns celebrating freedom and justice Outstanding Musical selections Recitation of Great Documents of American History, such as Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Reagan s Farewell Address (The Shining City) Words of Prophecy to Country from Susan B. Anthony, Chief Seattle, and Martin Luther King, Jr. There will be no children s Sunday School and no youth Sunday School. Each adult class will make its own decision. Nursery will be available from 10:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Glenn Ethridge will be preaching. Top Floor of New Education Wing to be Completed; Space for Children Expanded The major component of the next building project is the completion of the top floor of the new wing. With the addition of classroom space, conference room space, office space, and a new prayer room, we will relocate most adult classes to the new wing. This frees space in the children s wing. Some of the priority rooms in the children s wing will be renovated to create a more child-like atmosphere. Additional space will be available for assembly of large groups of children in the children s wing. The nursery will have new space, and there will be an area set aside for nursing mothers. The children s department will receive some additional storage space, and there will be other rooms available for storage by other ministries as well. With the children s Sunday School Assembly Room moved upstairs, the Parlor will be available on Sunday mornings for other functions, perhaps even weekly communion on Sunday mornings. The music ministry will receive the benefit of the shifting of space, too. One room will be set aside as a dedicated handbell room. Racks for youth and children s choir robes will have a new home inside one of the classrooms currently used by Oak Grove Christian School. The construction of the new wing was possible because of sacrificial gifts to our previous campaign. With continuous generosity through our second campaign, we will realize completion of the top floor of the new wing. Church Office Church Closed Office The church office will be Closed closed Tuesday, July 4, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. \It will reopen on Wednesday, July 5, at 9 a.m. Wear Your Name Tag! As we welcome our new Associate Pastor, Joseph McBrayer, please wear your name tag to all church activities. It will also be helpful for you to introduce yourself each time you see him over the coming weeks. OAK GROVE We are younger than some, older than most. Some are short, some are tall, some are thin, and some not so much. We are husbands, sons, grandpas, brothers, uncles, friends, and neighbors. We are all different, yet share a common thread that sews us all together. We walk a path that was blazed by Christ, together. We work together, play together, support missions together, and pray together. We love G-Braves baseball, and we throw a mean barbecue! We gather together in God's Holy name, seeking His guidance, praising His majesty. We are all flawed and forgiven, not by our own merits, but by His grace. Diane O Steen will be returning to the Oak Grove staff, but in a new role. Diane will fill Susie s job. Diane starts her employment June 26, and we welcome her warmly back to the Oak Grove Staff. Many thanks to Susie for her 14 years of service to the church. We will miss her.

9 OAK GROVE NEWS You can make sandwiches to feed hungry kids this summer! June 25, 2017 For most children, summer vacation is the best time of year. But for many children, summer also means a vacation from the meals they receive at school. For some children, no school means no lunch. At Oak Grove, we want to make sure that all children have the food they need. For 10 days during the summer we will meet in Fellowship Hall at 10:30 a.m. to enjoy fellowship, coffee, pastries, and a devotional, then we will assemble 600 sack lunches. Assembly Dates: Tuesdays and Wednesdays: July July July To volunteer to assemble lunches, choose from the dates above. CHURCH ACCESS For everyone s safety and security, the church is open for scheduled events only. At no time does the church have open gym or open building when people are allowed unsupervised access to the building. This is especially important with youth and young adults using the gym. Testimonials from Disciple Bible Study Facilitators In my first Disciple class 25 years ago, we gave names and one statement about ourselves. I said, "I am Leslie Mcbee and I hate Bible Study." Raised as a Methodist, my own experience with Bible study had been excruciatingly boring. Ill prepared Sunday school teachers sometimes pushed personal agendas with no discussion, and study was anything but alive and challenging. Disciple Study is different. Experiencing the Bible as one message (with experts in language, history, and archaeology) I discovered a living document. My own journey now has a plan desperately needed in unsure times and circumstances. Study takes time... but what time do we "have?" I pray you feel called as an apprentice/ disciple, and will arrange your schedule for time to understand what God calls us to hear. Leslie McBee Disciple Bible Study is an important part of my life. I am busy with work travel and my share of three kids worth of activities but I have learned that every aspect of my life is better when I prioritize Bible study and daily reading. Getting to know a group of Christians through our common faith strengthens my own faith and hopefully helps strengthen theirs. The Bible is an amazing gift to all of us. It can be challenging, but it is also helpful to have a team of friends and the Disciple resources to help reach understanding.
