1 Your Daily Inspiration Love your neighbor as yourself! This is the instruction God gives to us in His word. Let s think about this for a second. Think about all the people in your immediate surroundings. Your family, those you work with, your friends, those in your social circle. Is there anyone that you love as much as you love yourself? If a man is thrown into the jungle, he will find a way to preserve his life. Immediately he begins thinking about survival. Even if that man lived in a palace all his life, he learns to survive. Why? His love for himself will cause him to do anything to preserve himself. In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus tell the story of the Good Samaritan. We all know that story well. However, there is a very important truth in that story that is sometimes missed. The Samaritans we disliked by the Jews so the Good Samaritan was showing kindness to his enemy. He was being a neighbor to him. Jesus said we should do the same. Who are my neighbors? The Bible says a certain lawyer asked this question. You may be asking this same question too. I want you to do something different this morning. As you travel to work, or wherever you choose 1

2 to go today, try to count the people that you meet. The ones you sit beside on the bus. The ones you pass every morning, or occasionally throughout the day, the ones you honk your horn at as you pull out the driveway. I bet you will lose count, yet most of us have never exchanged a word with any. They are your neighbors. The Good Samaritan never knew the man he helped. He was a total stranger and an enemy, yet he showed him kindness and helped him. The lesson is, anyone you meet on a daily basis is your neighbor and you must love them as you love yourself. Loving them as you love yourself will make you want to preserve their lives as much as you want to preserve yours. Most importantly you will want to preserve their eternal life. If you stop to think about it, many people that you meet do not know Christ as Lord and Savior. They are dying in sin, yet we do not love them enough to stop and tell them how to have eternal life. We know Jesus and we keep Him to ourselves. Our own lives are being preserved and that s okay with us. We love ourselves so much we do everything to make sure we are okay. How about your neighbor, the person that you meet each day? Some are bleeding and dying just like the man on the Jericho road that the Samaritan helped. What will you do? Will you love your neighbor, or will you continue to love only yourself? 3 YOUR MORNING MEDICINE Blind Luck One day at a busy airport, the passengers on a commercial airliner are seated, waiting for the cockpit crew to show up so they can get under way. The pilot and co-pilot finally appear in the rear of the plane, and begin walking up to the cockpit through the center aisle. Both appear to be blind. The pilot is using a white cane, bumping into passengers right and left as he stumbles down the aisle, and the co-pilot is using a guide dog. Both have their eyes covered with huge sunglasses. At first the passengers do not react; thinking that it must be some sort of practical joke. However, after a few minutes the engines start spooling up and the airplane, starts moving down the runway. The passengers look at each other with some uneasiness, whispering among themselves and looking desperately to the flight attendants for reassurance. Then the airplane starts accelerating rapidly and people begin panicking. Some passengers are praying, and as the plane gets closer and closer to the end of the runway, the voices are becoming more and more hysterical. Finally, when the airplane has less than 20 feet of runway left, there is a sudden change in the pitch of the shouts as everyone screams at once, and at the very last moment the airplane lifts off and is airborne. Up in the cockpit, the co-pilot breathes a sigh of relief and turns to the Captain: You know, one of these days the passengers aren t going to scream, and we are gonna get killed! 3

4 PRAYER Lord I ask that you help me to love my neighbor as myself. Allow me to see every soul that I meet as precious in your eyes. May I use every opportunity I get to share the Love of Jesus to my neighbor so that I may preserve His life as much as I seek to preserve mine, in Jesus name. Amen. Classic Dianne SHIRT EXTENDERS.
