Overnight: Flight Day Two: Thursday, November 30, 2017 ARRIVAL Arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport. Welcome by our representative and assistance with arrival formalities. Meet your tour educator at the airport and depart for Jerusalem. Welcome to Jerusalem - הבאים :ברוכים Enter the vibrant and colorful ancient city of Jerusalem, and experience the convergence of the old and the new. Check into the hotel. Walk to Ketef Hinnom where two tiny silver scrolls, inscribed with portions of the well-known Priestly Blessing of the Book of Numbers were found, containing what may be the oldest surviving texts from the Hebrew Bible. Overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem, recite the traditional shehechiyanu blessing. Welcome dinner at Touro, a kosher chef restaurant in Jerusalem s historical Mishkenot Shaananim neighborhood boasting a beautiful view of the Tower of David and the Old City walls.

2 Day Three: Friday, December 1, 2017 HISTORY AND SPIRITUALITY IN JERUSALEM The Secrets of Jerusalem: Walk along the streets of the Old City for a behind the scenes look at the various communities in Jerusalem including: A meeting with an Armenian Ceramic Artist and a visit to his workshop, followed by a short tour of the Armenian Quarter, the smallest of the four quarters, with the smallest number of residents. Is it a Church or a Synagogue? A visit to Christ Church, the oldest Protestant Church in the Middle East, which looks exactly like a synagogue. Walk through Jerusalem s famous Old City Market (shuk). A visit to the Austrian Hospice, a European enclave in the heart of the Old City, known for its breath-taking views from the rooftop terrace. Lunch on own in the Jewish Quarter. Walking tour through the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, for visits to archaeological treasures and other highlights, among them: The four Sephardi Synagogues, which reflect the richness and diversity of Diaspora Jewish traditions. Visit the Karaite Synagogue and meet with representatives of the community. The Karaites recognize the Tanakh alone as its supreme legal authority in Jewish religious law and theology. The Cardo, the main street of Jerusalem in the 6 th century. King Hezekiah s First Temple-period Broad Wall. One Mountain, Three Religions: Mt. Zion and the Religious Challenge: Visit the traditional burial site of King David, a Temple Mount observation point, the Dormition Abbey, a mosque and the Room of the Last Supper. Return to the hotel. Kabbalat Shabbat services at a local synagogue or at the Kotel (Western Wall). Private Shabbat dinner at the hotel. Day Four: Saturday, December 2, 2017 SHABBAT IN JERUSALEM Shabbat services at a local synagogue. Shabbat lunch at the Fuchsberg Center, followed by a dialogue with a leader of the Israeli Conservative movement.. LaDa at Hebrew Writers: Guided walk through the streets of Jerusalem, using the writings of Jerusalem s poets and authors, such as Yehuda Amichai, S.Y. Agnon and others. Ben Kodesh Lechol: Havdallah overlooking the Old City. Israeli Society through Film: Meet with students and teachers from the Ma aleh Film School for a screening and discussion, exploring the intersection of Judaism and modern life. Ma aleh s unique, cutting-edge films attempt to foster deeper understanding and dialogue between religious and secular Jews. While Ma aleh graduates are shaping the future of the Israeli film and television, they also created a first-of-its-kind video-therapy for at-risk youth, Ethiopian immigrants, terror victims and adults with special needs. Dinner on own, perhaps on vibrant Emek Refaim Street, in Jerusalem s German Colony.

3 Day Five: Sunday, December 3, 2017 JERUSALEM UNTANGLED Visit the Hand in Hand School Yad b'yad in Jerusalem. Hand in Hand in a bilingual school with Israeli Jewish and Israeli Palestinian students combining peace education and top academic standards. Its mission is to build partnership, coexistence and equality between the Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel. The Geopolitics of Jerusalem - ובליבה חומה :ירושלים: Travel through the city of Jerusalem exploring some of the political and diplomatic complexities of recent years; drive around the seam zone (the Security Barrier), with an in-depth study seminar on the ramifications of current developments with Col. (Res.) Danny Tirza, one of the seam zone s designers. Lunch on own en route. Explore the small, excellent and very successful Castel Winery, conversation with wine-makers and connoisseurs who are a Jewish Italian family, as well as wine tasting. Visit Yvel, a unique international jewellery company and workshop, with an inspiring story of social change that sets a wonderful example of social awareness in business. Return to the hotel. Dinner on own and evening at leisure, perhaps at the Old Train Station Plaza, with its fashionable restaurants featuring local and international cuisine. On certain evenings you will enjoy street musicians, Israeli dancing and other attractions. Day Six: Monday, December 4, 2017 MEMORY - NEAR AND FAR Dialogue with a leading Yad Vashem scholar. Possible speakers: Dr. David Silberklang, Senior Historian at the International Institute for Holocaust Research at Yad Vashem. Dr. Yael Orvieto, Director of the Research Institute at Yad Vashem. Dr. Daniel Uziel, Director of Yad Vashem Photo Archives. Irena Steinfeldt, Director of the Righteous Among the Nations Program. Dr. Gideon Greif, Researcher and author of several books about the Holocaust. Dr. Na ama Shik, Director, Internet Department at the International School for Holocaust Studies. Visit the Yad Vashem complex, the Jewish National Memorial to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, including: The Art Museum The Holocaust Film Archive The Learning Center Lunch on own en route. Visit Hadassah Hospital for an in-depth look at this cutting-edge medical facility and how it has adapted to ever-changing needs. See the Chagall windows. A Cultural and Social Journey: Walk through Jerusalem s Nachlaot neighborhoods to witness the atmosphere in Sephardi, Ashkenazi and Haredi areas. Experience the sights, smells, and tastes of Jerusalem while walking through the Machaneh Yehuda open air market, with a local chef, choosing the best and the most fresh the shuk has to offer in order to return to a kitchen in the market for an interactive cooking session, followed by a delicious dinner.

4 Day Seven: Tuesday, December 5, 2017 A MOSAIC OF ISRAEL Check out of the hotel, depart Jerusalem and drive northwards along the Trans-Israel Highway for a close-up view of the Security Barrier along the seam zone between Israel and the Palestinian Territories. Visit to Beit She arim, site of a 1,800-year-old Jewish necropolis and the graves of some of the most important codifiers of Jewish tradition declared an UNESCO site. Lunch on own en route. Continue to Nazareth; walk through the colorful marketplace to the Church of the Annunciation. Meet with Nabeel Abboud-Ashkar, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the Polyphony Foundation, including a possible concert. Polyphony Foundation is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to bridge the divide between Arab and Jewish communities in Israel by creating a common ground where young people come together around classical music. Visit Sindyanna of Galilee, a female-led, fair-trade NGO promoting the concept of business for peace in Israel by selling Arab producers olive oil in the international marketplace and channeling all of the profits back into Arab women education while bridging cultural divides, encouraging sustainable agriculture, and supporting organic farming. Drive to Haifa and check into the hotel. Dinner on own and evening at leisure. Overnight: Haifa Day Eight: Wednesday, December 6, 2017 PAST AND PRESENT COMMUNITIES Visit the Baha i Gardens and gold-domed Shrine of the Bab, one of the holiest sites of the Baha i religion, on the slopes of Mount Carmel. Visit Kibbutz Ga aton to meet with the dancers of The Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company (KCDC) from Israel and around the world. Hear about the cultural renaissance that is taking place in the Galilee, participate in a dance seminar, take a brief tour of the kibbutz and view one of their rehearsals for insight into the working world of a dancer. Lunch on your own. Visit Akko (Acre), a UNESCO Heritage Site, for a multi-layered experience from the days of the Crusades through contemporary Israel, including guided visits to: The restored Crusaders Fortress. The al-jazzar Mosque, one of the largest and most interesting in Israel. The colorful Akko shuk (market). Modern Day Zionism: Meet with members of the Akko Ayalim Association which encourages students to live in rural villages and towns usually in the periphery, and to take on active roles in local community life. Drive to a Druze village in the Carmel Mountains for a window into the unique world of the Israeli Druze community, with home-hospitality dinner. Return to Haifa. Overnight: Haifa

5 Day Nine: Thursday, December 7, 2017 A TASTE OF CULTURE Check out of the hotel and depart Haifa. Guided by a local resident, visit the famous Ein Hod artist colony south of Haifa, and explore some of the many galleries throughout the village. Guided visit to Zichron Ya acov, one of the first communities established by the early Zionist pioneers, including: Wine tasting at a local winery. A walk along the colorful Pedestrian Mall with lunch on own. A walk through the glorious Ramat Hanadiv Gardens, dedicated to Baron de Rothschild (the Nadiv or Benefactor ), located on the outskirts of Zichron Ya acov. Continue along the coastal plain to Tel Aviv, known as the city that never sleeps, with its centers of culture, recreation and national history, great beaches and fine stores. Check into the hotel. Dinner in Jaffa at Blackout, a restaurant completely in the dark, followed by a performance by the Nalaga at deaf and blind theater group. Overnight: Tel Aviv Day Ten: Friday, December 8, 2017 FOUNDATIONS OF A CITY AND A STATE Foundations of a City and a State, Ahad Ha Am to Bialik: Zionist ideology and the revival of the Hebrew language come alive as you walk down Bialik Street and through the Trumpeldor Cemetery. Continue to the Rubin House, the former residence and studio of Reuven Rubin. Delve into the special world of this pioneering Israeli artist. Stroll along the Nachalat Binyamin pedestrian mall, with its bi-weekly crafts fair and eateries. Alongside is the colorful Carmel open-air market and across the way Sheinkin Street, with its hip cafés and funky chic shopping. Free time. Kabbalat Shabbat services at a local synagogue. 6 Day Eleven: Saturday, December 9, 2017 SHABBAT IN TEL AVIV Shabbat services at a local synagogue. Shabbat lunch at the hotel. Walking tour through colorful Neve Zedek, one of Tel Aviv s earliest neighborhoods. Today it is a cultural mecca, with many small boutiques and galleries, and the Suzanne Delal Dance and Theater Center. Guided walk through the streets of old Tel Aviv to view examples of the intriguing Bauhaus-style architecture from the 1930s. The local proliferation of the style won Tel Aviv recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site and the nickname of the White City. Ben Kodesh Lechol: Havdallah. Free Evening in Tel Aviv for an opportunity to: Stroll down Rothschild Boulevard, with its many cafés and bars. Experience Tel Aviv Port, with its restaurants and clubs. Saunter down the Tel Aviv Beach Promenade. Wander through the Tachana, Tel Aviv s renovated old train station, now a center of boutiques and good food, and one of Tel Aviv s blooming hot spots. Overnight: Tel Aviv Day Twelve: Sunday, December 10, 2017 TEL AVIV: THE FIRST HEBREW CITY Visit SOSA, an innovator s community, established for the startup ecosystem in Tel Aviv to learn about the development of Israel s high-tech industry & innovation. LaDa at Ethnic Tasting Tour: walk through Tel Aviv s famous Levinsky Market, where you'll find a combination of foods and sweets from all over the Mediterranean and hear the unique stories of the individuals who sell them; lunch on own if still hungry! Urban Culture Tours of Tel Aviv, Combining Street Art, Language & Graffiti: Join Guy Sharett, a local resident, to explore the urban culture of the city. Free time for last minute shopping. Late check-out from the hotel. Enjoy a farewell dinner and the elegant atmosphere at Liliyot, which offers an attractive menu mixing Mediterranean and Californian cuisine. Liliyot works together with the Elem Association, employing youth with difficulties and donating part of their profits to the association.
