5 DISCIPLES VS APOSTLES Disciples (Matt 10:1): Hebrew: תּ ל מ יד מ Talmudim (Taught Ones, ~ Talmud) Greek: µαθητής,mathetes (Trained Ones, ~ Math) Apostles (Matt 10:2): Hebrew: שלכ ים Shelakim (Sent Ones) Greek: ἀπόστολον Apostolon (Sent Ones) The Apostles Were 12 Disciples Sent Out by Jesus

6 TO ISRAEL FIRST 5 These twelve Jesus sent; he commanded them saying: To the lands of the Gentiles do not go, And into the cities of the Samaritans do not enter. 6 Go to the sheep who have strayed from the house of Israel. (Hebrew Matthew 10:5-6) 5 These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them: "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans; 6 but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 SPIRITUAL KINGDOM 7 Preach to them that the kingdom of heaven will be fulfilled. 8a Heal the sick, restore life to the dead, (cleanse) the lepers, and cast out demons (Heb: ha-shadim, powerful ones [El Shadai = Almighty God]) from men ( sons of Adam ). (Hebrew Matthew 10:7-8a) 7 "And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' 8 "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons (Grk: daimonion, powerful ones, evil spirits). 8 KINGDOM OF HEAVEN The Kingdom of Heaven Is Used Only in Matthew, 31 Times. Matthew Also Uses the Kingdom of God, but Only in 4 Places. Hebrew: מ ל כוּ ת ה שׁ מ י ם Malakoth Hashamayim. Greek: βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν Basileia ton ouranon. In All Other NT Writings, the Kingdom of God Is Used: 14 Times in Mark, 31 Times in Luke, 2 Times in John, 6 Times in Acts, 1 Time in Romans, 4 Times in 1 Corinthians, 2 Times in Galatians, 1 Time in 2 Thessalonians. The Kingdom of God Is a General Term: (1) Fuzzy Kingdom (Providential Kingdom); (2) Visible Kingdom (Israel); (3) Spiritual Kingdom (Church); (4) Full Kingdom (Millennium). Kingdom of Heaven = Spiritual Kingdom

10 A GOD WHO IS HERE Jesus asked His Apostles (and All Later Ones Who Dedicate Their Lives to Serve Him as Full Time Servants) to Live a Life of Faith, Believing in a God Who Is Here.,שכר Wages (Heb: The Apostles Did Not Receive sheker, Compensation for Work beyond Satisfying Immediate Needs). [v.8b Is Not in the Greek Matthew] They Received (the Gospel) Freely (Heb: Chanam, by Grace), So Should They Give Freely. The Workers of God Will Receive Enough for Their Living. This Is Given by The People Who Respond to God s Grace; It Is Actually Given by the God Who Is Present.

11 COME IN PEACE מגדל tower(heb: yir) and in every עיר (Heb: 11 In every city migdal[e.g. Mary Magdalene]) that you enter (ask) who is the good man(heb: הטוב ha-ishהאיש ha-tob) among them, and there remain until you go out. 12a When you enter the house, give to them a shalom(heb:,( Shalomשלום 12b saying: Shalom to this house; shalom to all who dwell in it. (Hebrew Matthew 10:11-12) 11 "And whatever city (Grk: πόλις polis) or village(grk: κώµη kome) you enter, inquire who is worthy(grk: ἄξιος axios, of value)in it, and stay at his house until you leave that city. 12 "As you enter the house, give it your greeting(grk: ἀσπάζοµαι aspazomai, Welcome, Greeting). 12 REWARD THE GOOD A Tower Is a Military Fortress with a Few Civilians Around, thus a Village. A Good Man Is One Who Is Kind and Hospitable. His Goodness Will Be Tested by Staying in His House, and His Goodness Will Be Rewarded by Hearing the Gospel First. A Worthy Man Is One Who Has High Moral Values, Closer to God s Value than Others. His Moral Worth Is Tested and Rewarded by and through Hosting the Missionaries (Apostles then). A Greeting Is a General Word of Welcome. But a Shalom Is a Blessing of Holistic Well Being in the Semitic Culture. It Carries Power if Received; but Not Effective if Not Received. [v.12b Not in Greek Matthew]

13 MOTION OF SHALOM 13 If that house should be worthy (Heb: ראויה ra vih, on top, as head, excellent), your shalom will come upon it, but if it is not worthy, you shalom will return to you. (Hebrew Matthew 10:13) 13 "If the house is worthy (Grk: ἄξιος axios, of value), give it your blessing of peace. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace. (Matt. 10:13 NAU) In the Greek (and Modern Western) Culture the Blessing of Peace Is Similar to the Semitic Shalom, but the Motion of It Is Run by the Will of the Greeter. In the Semitic Culture, the Motion of the Shalom Is Run by God.

14 CONDEMNATION 14 When one does not receive you or listen to you, you shall go out from that house and (shake off) your feet from the dust. 15 Truly I say to you, it will be better for Sodom and Gomorrah in that day than for that city.(hebrew Matthew 10:14-15) 14 "Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet. 15 "Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city. (Matt. 10:14-15 NAU)

15 THE HEAD AS THE WHOLE The Greek Matthew Added or that city after that house. But in the Hebrew Matthew, the Rejection of the Missionaries by the Best Man (and His Household) of the City Represents the Whole City Rejecting the Gospel, for the Head Represents the Whole. Once the City (a Realm) Rejects the Gospel, the Whole City Is Condemned by God Spiritually, as Sodom and Gomorrah Was Condemned Morally and Physically. Shaking Off the Dust Means Not Taking Anything Out of a Condemned Place, so as Not to Be Condemned by Association, as Achan Who Was Condemned because of Taking a Set of Clothing Out of the Condemned City of Jericho (Josh 7).

16 PERSECUTION 16 Behold I send you like sheep in the midst of wolves. Be as crafty as serpents and humble as dove. 17 Beware of men(heb: אדם beneבני Adam, sons of Adam). They will not deliver you up in their congregations (Heb: קהל kahal, Community Administrative Council) and houses of assembly (Heb:, Knessetכנסיות Community Legislative Council), 18a but to governments (Heb: ( pachotפחות and kings. 18b You will be able to bear witnesson my behalf to them and to the Gentiles. (Hebrew Matthew 10:16-18)

17 PERSECUTION 16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves. 17 "But beware of men, for they will hand you over to the courts(grk: συνέδριον sunedrion, ~ kahal) and scourge you in their synagogues(grk: συναγωγή sunagoge, Community Center for Worship, Study, and Legislature, ~ Knesset); 18 and you will even be brought before governors(grk: ἡγεµών hegemon, Leader, Governor) and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. (Matt. 10:16-18 NAU)

18 OPPORTUNITY FOR WITNESSING Jewish Communities Are Governed by 2 Two Councils: Kahalas the Administrative Council and Court; They Apply God s Law and Enforce Tradition. Knessetas the Learning Center (Synagogue) and Legislative Council. They Decipher God s Law and Form Tradition. The Author of the Hebrew Matthew Knew Really Well the Jewish Life. The Hebrew Matthew Says that the Apostle Will NOT Be Delivered to the Jewish Kahaland Knesset, but to the Gentile Governors and Kings (to Kill Indirectly). But It Is an Opportunity to Witness to Gentiles and Kings.

19 SUPPLY IN NEED 19 When they seize you, do not consider what you will say, because in the hour that you are in need an answer will come to you. 20 It will not be you who speak. But the Holy Spirit of my Father will speak through you. (Hebrew Matthew 10:19-20) 19 "But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say. 20 "For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. (Matt. 10:19-20 NAU)

20 HOLY SPIRIT S PRESENCE The Gospel Period (of Jesus and the Apostles) Is Sill in the Old Testament Dispensation. The Holy Spirit Did Not Begin His Permanent Indwelling in the Church until the Pentecost. But the Holy Spirit Could Descend on Old Testament Heroes of Faith (e.g. David), though Not Permanently. 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit. (Ps. 51:11-12 NAU) David, because of Sin, Was in Danger of Being Stripped of the Presence of the Holy Spirit. He Lost His Joy of Salvation, but Not Salvation Itself.

21 PROJECTION Jesus Probably Projected to the Church Period, as He Sent Paul to Witness to the Gentiles and Kings. 15 But the Lord said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel; (Acts 9:15 NAU) The Teaching to the Twelve in Matthew 10 Gradually Projects beyond the Situation of the Apostles in the Gospel Period (6 B.C. A.D.33), and Appliesto the Church Period (A.D.33 Rapture), even the Tribulation (Rapture Second Coming). This Is because Jesus Did NOT Know the Time of His Second Coming When He Was on the Earth. He Could Have a Recent 7-Year Tribulation, then the Full Kingdom.

22 UNWELCOMED KINGDOM 21 Brother will deliver up brother to death and a father his son; the sons will rise up against (their) father and lead them unto death. 22 You will become a derision and a fright(despised and Feared) to all the nationsbecause of my name. Whoever endures, however, until the time of the end will be saved. (Hebrew Matthew 10:21-22) 21 "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. 22 "You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. (Matt. 10:21-22 NAU)

23 LOVE THAT DIVIDES Jesus Came with God s Message of Peace, but It Requires Men to Acknowledge their Iniquity and Inability. The Gospel of Love Is Offensive to the Best and Proudest of Humanity. So It Will Divide Humanity, but Unite the Church. He Who Endured to the End Applies to the Tribulation Directly, for Those Will Live into the Full Kingdom of God (Millennium). It Apples to the Church Indirectly, for Spiritual Salvation Is by Faith, and Secure in Christ. But the True Believer Will Never Deny Jesus Name under Duress.
