2 Create your own Murder Most Unladylike Mystery This is the first murder that the Wells & Wong Detective Society has ever investigated, so it is a good thing Daisy bought me a new casebook. The last one was finished after we solved The Case of Lavinia s Missing Tie. The solution to that, of course, was that Clementine stole it in revenge for Lavinia punching her in the stomach during lacrosse, which was Lavinia s revenge for Clementine telling everyone Lavinia came from a broken home. I suspect that the solution to this new case may be more complex. Choose Daisy and Hazel s next adventure! Put the Detective Society s crime-solving skills to the test with the most fiendish puzzle you can imagine remember, you can set it anywhere and at any time you like, and the mystery they solve doesn t even have to be a murder... NAME THE BOOK Titles are important what will your mystery be called?... WHAT, WHERE, WHO, HOW? Now it s time to think about the plot: 1. What is the crime? It could be robbery, kidnapping, smuggling or even murder Who is the victim? What sort of person are they, and why might someone want to commit a crime against them? 3. Where does the crime take place? It could be a hotel, a ship, a beautiful holiday island or even the moon Who are the suspects? Are they the victim s friends? Do they all work together? Or are they all members of the same family, like they are in Arsenic for Tea? 5. What clues will you introduce to lead your detectives to the murderer? They could be handkerchiefs, fingerprints, hairs or even suspicious food or drink...

4 DesIGN YOUR PERFECT BIRTHDAY TEA There was the most gorgeous spread on the table an enormous teapot, surrounded by lovely pillowy buns, and jellies in four different colours, and jam tarts, and ham, and boiled eggs, and muffins, and a fat chocolate cake with Happy Birthday Daisy piped in white icing, oozing cream. In Arsenic for Tea, it s Daisy s birthday. Her mother has organised a tea to celebrate but of course, things don t go quite to plan! Can you do any better? Design your perfect afternoon tea here! 8 Detective Society Secrets How to create invisible ink Invisible ink is very useful for keeping your secret codes and notes hidden from others, and for sending messages to other detectives without worrying about them being intercepted. All you need is some basic household objects and the hidden power of lemon juice. 1. Squeeze some lemon juice into a bowl and add a few drops of water. 2. Mix the water and lemon juice with a spoon. 3. Dip a cotton bud into the mixture and write a message onto some white paper. 4. Wait for the juice to dry so it becomes completely invisible. 5. When you are ready to read your secret message or show it to someone else, heat the paper by holding it close to a lamp or torch, and the message will appear! How to write a coded message This is another very useful way of keeping your notes and messages secret from those you don t want reading them. The writing will look like complete nonsense to your average civilian, but most detectives know the trick of reading Pig Latin. 1. Take the first letter of the word you want to write and move it to the end of the word. 2. Add the letters ay to the end of the word as well. 3. If the word begins with a vowel, you just need to add yay (some Pig-Latin speakers may add hay ) to the end of the word. You don t need to change any letters around. 4. Continue to use these rules on every word you write to create your coded message! Examples: - Hello, how are you?
