Mah Jongg 12:30-4:00 PM YOM HAZIKARON - ISRAEL'S MEMORIAL DAY APRIL 22-4 IYAR SHABBAT SHALOM The fourth of Iyar, the day preceding Israel's Independence Day, was declared by the Israeli Knesset to be a Memorial Day for those

2 who lost their lives in the struggle that led to the establishment of the State of Israel and for all military personnel who were killed while in active duty in Israel's armed forces. For 24 hours (from sunset to sunset) all places of public entertainment are closed. The most noticeable feature of the day is the sound of siren that is heard throughout the country twice, during which the entire nation observes a two-minute "standstill" of all traffic and daily activities. The first siren marks the beginning of Memorial Day at 8:00 P.M., and the second is at 11:00 A.M., before the public recitation of prayers in the military cemeteries. All radio and television stations broadcast programs portraying the lives and heroic deeds of fallen soldiers. Most of the broadcasting time is devoted to Israeli songs that convey the mood of the day. Candle Lighting Time Friday April 17, :18 PM (So. Ocean County NJ) PLEASE JOIN US FOR SERVICES Friday evening April 17, :30 PM YOM HA'ATZMAUT - ISRAEL INDEPENDENCE DAY APRIL 23-5 IYAR Israel's Independence Day is celebrated on the fifth day of the month of Iyar, which is the Hebrew date of the formal establishment of the State of Israel, when members of the "provisional government" read and signed a Declaration of Independence in Tel Aviv. The original date corresponded to May 14, The official "switch" from Yom Hazikaron to Yom Ha'atzmaut takes place a few minutes after sundown, with a ceremony on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem in which the flag is raised from half staff (due to Memorial Day) to the top of the pole. The president of Israel delivers a speech of congratulations, and soldiers representing the army, navy, and air force parade with their flags. In recent decades this small-scale parade has replaced the large-scale daytime parade, which was the main event during the 1950s and '60s. On April 30, 2015 the Woman's Division of the Jewish Federation of Ocean County brings you an evening of laughter, along with a wonderful gift auction and delicious desserts. NEW TORAHS We are very excited to announce the plans to acquire two new Torahs for our synagogue. Our Holy Ark was designed to hold 5 Torahs and these last two acquisitions will complete the set. Our three existing Torahs are being cleaned and refurbished thanks to the generosity of two of our families. WE ARE READY TO LAUNCH OUR NEW POLO SHIRT SALES They are a royal blue with the JCC of LBI logo and "The Place to Be" embroidered on the left front. We will have samples of all

7 The JCC is undertaking a fundraising effort so that the new Torahs can be obtained without adversely affecting the already approved budget for Our membership and our friends are asked to support the JCC in one of the great Mitzvahs, helping to bring Torahs here. A wedding, baby naming, renewal of vows can have special meaning our beautiful sanctuary which seats 124 people (can be opened to more seating). Your reception, special birthday or anniversary party can be accommodated in the large social hall which has a capacity for table seating for 200 and can be set up auditorium style for 280 persons. In addition there is a kosher restaurant-sized kitchen, two classrooms and a library.
