Welcome students as they enter, and inquire about their week. Pass out name tags and record attendance on a classroom chart. /6! 7-##8!92%:%;!<1%4/85%=>/2-!?4--%#8@! Start your morning with the Straight Face greeting. Have the students stand in a circle with their individual name-tags visible. Each child takes a turn saying to the next person in line: Good morning, name. They can say the greeting however they would like i.e., loudly, quietly, with a funny face or voice, etc.. The person greeted must return the greeting without laughing. Continue around the circle until all students have been greeted by name. A6! 7-##8!B4/;-4! The teacher should focus attention on God by leading students in an opening prayer: Lord God, thank you for bringing us together. As we hear today the story of your creation of heaven and earth, help us to remember that you are the one who created each of us as well. In the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, we pray. For those who meet as a single class group, the welcome time may include an opening song, using a commercial Sunday School music CD. 4 Step 4: Classroom Activity Listed below are in-class activities and projects related to the theme. First Day: Start with the lights off in class. Then, to represent the first day, turn on the lights. Present the paper as the canvas for the rest of the activity. Second Day: Paint a blue sky in large sweeping brush strokes. Third Day: Add the ground and a body of water in the same way. Now let the children dig through the craft supplies provided and make plants, fruit trees and grain, with fabric, yarn and paper. Add them to the mural. Fourth Day: Use yellow and gray paper to make a sun and moon and put them on opposite sides of the mural. Then cut out little yellow stars to add to the sky. Fifth Day: Use the craft supplies to make birds feathers, felt, eyes, etc. and sea creatures foam sheets, glitter, etc.. Sixth Day: Use fur and felt scraps to make wild animals, reptiles, and people. Seventh Day: When all is done, rest and have a treat for the class, remarking on how good the class creation is! Mural Review: Go back over mural picture, using a movie voice to announce the days: On the first day God created. See if the children can verbally fill-in-the-blank by remembering the order of creation. '&0;;#""='#+08",<7#0& Part 5: Bible Drama Re-tell the story for the day in visual or dramatic form. For older children, the drama may be used as a simple skit. For younger students, it may be used as a script for a puppet show, flannel board display, etc. Part 6: Memory Review Spend some time on memory work with children. Review the memory verse for the day, or if the children do not yet have it memorized, practice the Lord s Prayer together Lesson Book, page 32. Try This: Print each word of the Lord s Prayer on an index card, posted on the bulletin board. Each week, turn over one word to the blank side. Repeat the prayer each week until the students know it by heart.
