Whether you ve presented at the Prizmah Conference before or you re new to our community, we encourage you to submit a session proposal. 4 CONFERENCE GOALS Affective Goals Participants will identify with and feel inspired by their dreams for Jewish education, both the dreams that motivated them to start out in this field, and their dreams for the future. Participants will feel part of a large, diverse, and vibrant field. Participants will see themselves as an integral node in the Prizmah Network, and will feel a sense of responsibility towards others in the network, regardless of difference. Participants will feel proud of their work in Jewish day schools. Participants will feel that their voice and perspective is valued, encouraged, and supported, within the wide range of diversity in the Jewish community. Behavioral Goals Presenters and participants will ask questions that challenge the conventions of the field, and engage in conversations that connect higher-level thinking to the on-the-ground realities of day school life. Participants will chart their own course through the conference schedule: participating in community-wide shared experiences, choosing from 150+ formal sessions, and engaging in informal learning and networking woven throughout the event. Participants will connect with others inside and outside the field in order to build empathic and trusting relationships. Cognitive Goals Participants will learn about creative models and innovative solutions that challenge conventions and traditional norms. Participants will reflect on what they are able to offer, and what they are looking to receive from friends and colleagues in the network. Participants will know how Prizmah can support them and strengthen their work on the ground. PROPOSAL TIP When thinking about the framework for your session, consider outlining the three to five things you want your audience to walk away with. 4

5 CONFERENCE THEME The Prizmah conference provides participants the opportunity to step outside of the day-to-day pressures of your work and step inside of your day school dreams. Here you ll have a chance to reconnect with the motivations that inspired your passions for the field, and the sense of promise, excitement, and meaning that you find in Jewish day schools. The following guiding questions serve to illustrate how this theme will be reflected throughout the conference, and should be considered as you frame your session proposal: How do we create opportunities in our schools for dreaming, creativity, and risk-taking? How can we support each other to go beyond our comfort zones? What is the balance between dreaming and navigating the realities that Jewish day schools face? How do we actualize dreams for our careers, schools, and for the field? What new skills, ideas, and initiatives can inspire school leaders to make bold changes in their schools? How can strategic partnerships help Jewish day schools achieve their dreams? What ideas from outside of the day school field from general education, psychology, business, technology, etc. can help day schools advance their goals? What guidance will enable participants to o reconnect to their dreams? o reflect upon challenges to pursuing their dreams? o develop shared dreams? o gain skills and tools to pursue their dreams? NOTE We don t expect that every session will relate directly to the theme, however, we do hope that these ideas will influence your thinking as you design the participant experience. 5

This enthusiasm helps to intensify our service. When we feel that our service has become a mainstay of existence, service of God becomes our focus, and in turn God derives great satisfaction. And this explains the meaning of and he dreamed (va-yahalom), ויחלום as to feel strengthened from the same root as והחייני ותחלימני (va-tahalimeni ve-he hayeini) (Isaiah 38:16) You have restored my health and revived me. [In King Hezekiah s prayer recorded in the Book of Isaiah, it means that the King emerged strengthened in his new purpose of service to God.] Jacob s strength emerges from his dreaming. How do your dreams guide and nurture you? Do you feel that your work is providing you not just with material sustenance but also with spiritual growth? 7

9 AUDIENCE First and foremost, the Prizmah conference is for anyone who cares deeply about Jewish day schools. Join 1,000+ participants, including: School-based professional leaders: Heads of school, principals, Jewish studies leaders, education and student program administrators, business officers, admissions and development professionals School-based lay leadership: Board chairs, board members, committee chairs Community lay leadership Federation, foundation, and Jewish communal professionals 9

10 SESSION PROPOSAL PROCESS Visit prizmah.org/proposal to submit your session proposal. You will be prompted to create an account and then you will be able to submit session proposals. Step 1: About You This section helps us to get to know you better, including contact, biographical, and reference information. If your proposal is selected, the bio and headshot that you submit here will be used in our online and print program materials. Your bio should be written in the second person and must be less than 500 characters, including spaces. Step 2: Proposed Session Details These questions are designed to give us information about your session and to help assist you as you develop your session. If your session is approved, we will also use this content in our printed program guide, conference app, and marketing materials. We are looking forward to working with you to build your session(s). Please note that all content will be edited prior to publication. Your session description should be succinct (5 sentence/80 word maximum), telling the reader the gist of what they will learn, and indicating what is important and/or new. Verbs should be in the present and second person, usually the imperative (explore, learn, discover, etc.). Avoid extraneous language, such as In this session and This workshop is highly interactive. 10

12 Participation and Building Connections We want our participants to see themselves as part of the Prizmah network, and one of the key ways that we will meet this goal is by encouraging people to learn together throughout the program. When evaluating session proposals, we ll especially be looking for sessions that are built around collaborative and participatory learning models, and that provide time for participants to reflect on their learning applies in their own context. While there is definite value to the sage on the stage, we hope that you ll incorporate opportunities for meaningful connection-building in your sessions.
