1 Prentice Hall America: Pathways to the Present 2005, Survey Edition Rhode Island Certificate of Initial Mastery (CIM) & Southern Rhode Island Regional Collaborative (SORICO), Social Studies Standards (Grades 9-12) Purpose: The purpose of the CIM is to specify the high standards students must meet for gainful employment, life, and living in the 21st century. It creates a process whereby student learning can be externally validated and recognized in a manner that ensures businesses and others that students possess the competencies needed to achieve success in the work environment.
