1 Angels and Demons Tourney Author Juliana de Northwood (mka Alonya Cullinan) This tourney is based on the Gods and Monsters tourney format but uses an array of Angels (and Saints) & Demons from across multiple pantheons. 1. Each participant either has 2 lives or a single extended life. 2. Every angel has a direct opposite demon 3. Declare who you are before your bout 4. When fencing your opposite there are no special win conditions, you are fencing as normal. 5. If a particular weapon form does not work, try something else. The following descriptions were hand written on each card. Angel Seraphim The Burning Ones Seraphim form the highest order of Angels in Christian Theology. These fiery six wing creatures fly around God s throne singing Holy, Holy, Holy. Immunity from death when singing Ring- a- ring- a roses 3 times per bout. Nosferatu Cherubim Different to the Seraphim, Cherubim are attributed to the second level of angels and are often depicted as children. Must be legged and on their knees before a kill shot. Werewolf St Dimas The Penitent thief on the cross Sometimes known as Dysmas, he was crucified at the same time as Jesus. Must lose a hand or arm before a kill shot. Zombie Demon Nosferatu Vampire/Vampyr A vampire, the highest order of the undead, is a mythological creature who subsists by living on the life- blood of the living. A thrust through the heart. All other blows are ignored. Seraphim Werewolf Also called a lycanthrope, a mythological creature with the ability to shapshift into a wolf- human creature either purposefully or being placed under a curse. They have super- healing but are susceptible to silver weapons (silver bullet). Must be killed by a silver dagger (in absence of a silver bullet). Wounds are ignored if weapons are the regular variety. Cherubim Zombie An animated corpse raised by magical means such as Voodoo. Voodoo in reality plays no part although this is the popular belief. In popular culture, the zombie is susceptible to fire. Bruce Campbell wielded a zombie arm that was holding a sword to save himself in the movie The Living Dead.

2 St Maurice Born in 250AD in Thebes, Egypt near the Aswan Dam, Maurice was an Egyptian Coptic priest who became a soldier in the Roman Army. He holds many patronages include weavers, dyers and armourers. Maurice must lose control of the banner, grasping the cane is considered losing control. Blade grasping rules must be offered and apply to the banner cane. The Mummy Archangel Gabriel Gabriel is considered a messenger angel in the major religions. Gabriel is the 5th of the 5 archangels. He is often depicted blowing a trumpet to destroy Jerusalem but this is not confirmed by name in the literary sources. Gabriel carries a messenger bag that must be stabbed before a killing blow. Imp Archangel Michael Michael is an archangel in all the major religions. As the patron saint of chivalry, police officers, paramedics, fire fighters and warriors he is often depicted wielding a sword. As the patron saint of warriors he will expect excellent technique. Poor fencing will distract him and he can be defeated by a correction to excellent technique. The Devil Amputate an arm or a leg before the kill shot. St Dimas The Mummy An undead creature associated with a curse to bring them back to life. The earliest modern story depicting a mummy is The Mummy or A Tale of the 22nd Century by Jance C. Loudon, Egyptians believe they fear the domestic cat, which are the keepers of the Underworld. Opponent must use an off handed parrying plushy cat Saint Maurice Imp The imp in Germanic folklore is considered mischievous rather than evil and not really good at following the rules. They are lovers of practical jokes and take pleasure with playing with the temperature. Imps will be confounded by rules and will be confused by a rulebook. Use a rulebook against it. Archangel Gabriel The Devil From the Greek Diablos, Slanderer or Accuser, in many myths and cultures, this entity is the personification of evil; the enemy of God and human- kind. The opponent offers The Devil a contract, which he must accept. Archangel Michael

3 Saint Solomon (Sulayman, Jedediah) Solomon, King of Israel and Son of David is described as the 3rd King of the United Monarchy Nights describes a Genie who had displeased Solomon and was liked inside his bottle, which was sealed with the Seal of Solomon. The Genie was helpless to escape until a fisherman found the bottle and released the Genie, who granted the fisherman 3 wishes. Opponent must wield the plushy seal of Solomon. Genie Archangel Raphael Raphael is an archangel in Judaism, Islam and Christianty and is depicted carrying a staff. In Christianity he is the patron saint of sailors, healers, marriage and happy meetings. Opponent must face Raphael using a sword and cane. Asmodeus The Green Man The Green Man is commonly attributed to vegetative deities and is a symbol of rebirth each spring. Carvings of the Green Man appear on both secular and ecclesiastical buildings. He is often depicted as a man s face looking through vines and leaves. Opponent must take case of rapier or dagger as garden shears. Cockatrice Genie Jinni, Djinn A supernatural magical creature in Islamic mythology. The genies stood in Solomon s court behind the learned humans. According to the myth, a Genie had displeased Solomon and he locked it in a bottle sealing with his seal until a fisherman freed the Genie centuries later. Genie granted the fisherman 3 wishes as a reward. Opponent wielding a lamp/bottle and calling the phrase Genie, get back in your bottle, or a similar phrase. Saint Solomon Asmodeus - Ashmedai Is referred to as the King of the Nine Hells and is also referred to as one of the 7 Princes of Hell, each representing one of the 7 deadly sins. Asmodeus is the Demon of Lust and is therefore responsible for twisting people s desires. Proclamations of Love vs Lust Prose (messages of love) or gifts of the heart (flowers) Archangel Raphael Cockatrice According to legend, this demonic creature is born of a chicken s egg that has been incubated by a toad, although a snake could be inserted into the storytelling. A story of the village Wherwell, has been told of a cockatrice terrorizing the inhabitants. A man named Green lowered a mirror into the dungeon where the cockatrice lived. The creature attacked its own reflection until exhausted, at which time Green was able to kill it. The opponent must face the cockatrice with a metal buckler (mirror). The Green Man

4 St Peter According to the new testament, St Peter was one of the 12 apostles. Originally a fisherman of Bethaisda in Galilee, he was originally called Simon, Simeon or Shimon. Opponent must face St Peter with an offhanded parrying fish. Selkie Selkie Not all demonic or mythological creatures are evil or mischievous. The gentle selkie is said to live as a seal in the sea, but shed their skins to become human on land. Selkie must use a sword and cloak. The cloak must be thrown and the Angel must pick it up and wield it. St Peter The props were as follows: St Solomon A plush seal toy as the Seal of Solomon St Maurice A banner on a cane Archangel Gabriel messenger satchel Saint Raphael A cane (different to the one for St Maurice) Saint Peter An offhanded parrying fish (I borrowed a rattan one, rigid parrying item rules apply) St Solomon A plushy seal Nosferatu a heart to pin on Werewolf a nominated silver dagger Mummy Plushy cat Asmodeus a bunch of flowers/box of chocolates/sonnets etc any or all. Imp - A printed copy of the Lochac fencing rulebook. Cockatrice A metal buckler The Green Man additional dagger and rapier (different to the silver dagger for Werewolf) I also used some plastic greenery to create a wreath for the Green Man s mask. The Devil A Devil s contract. Selkie A cloak Genie an appropriate bottle/lamp
