5 Decretive Will and Preceptive Will 1. Sovereign decretive will, the will by which God brings to pass whatsoever He decrees. This is hidden to us until it happens. (decretive, hidden, secret) 2. Preceptive will is God's revealed law or commandments, which we have the power but not the right to break. (preceptive, revealed)

7 Doing the Will of God Doing the will of God means 1. Obedience to His revealed will Knowing the Word of God Abiding in the Vine (maintaining a Spirit-empowered relationship with Jesus Christ) Learning to apply the Word of God in specific situations Using all that God created me to be in order to take dominion of my realm 2. Submission to His decretive will A recognition that God s specific plan is not completely known to me A confidence that Father knows best how to sanctify me, discipline me, and use me A commitment to the fact that submission to God s decretive will is not passivity An understanding that if things don t go well, God is still in control

9 What is consecration? Nehemiah was a man who knew and loved his Lord and was wholly given to his Lord s service. The original direction was the path of self-service, in the sense of treating yourself as God, the supreme value, and gratifying yourself accordingly. The new direction is a matter of saying good-bye to all that and embracing the service of God instead.

10 How is consecration related to God s will? Romans 12:1-2 Only a person dedicated to God s service will have a heart to continually go back to the Word of God to be instructed by the Holy Spirit. Packer: The fact we must face is that impenitent and unconsecrated Christians will be out of earshot when God calls them to service, just as they are out of line already, without being fully aware of it, in regard to the imperatives of daily Christian living. Apathy and sluggishness with regard to ordinary obedience brings deafness when God calls to special service.
