Words of remembrance for morning and evening & at the time of Sleeping 1

بسم هللا الرحمان الرحيم All praise is due to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon him after whom there is no other Prophet. 1. THE STATUS OF REMEMBERING ALLAAH (DHIKRULLAAH) The high status and value of Dhikrullaah, in Islaam in general is well known. Below are some reference from the Quraan and Sunnah for this. Allaah, the Almighty said which means: So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me. (2:152) What a majestic compensation for remembering Allaah! And, Allaah, the Almighty said which means: O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance (41) And exalt Him morning and afternoon. (42) In the above aayah, in addition to Dhikr, Allaah, the Almighty also commands the believer to exalt Him (do Tasbeeh) morning and afternoon (the subject of this book). 2. THE EFFECT OF DHIKR ON THE BELIEVER And, Allaah, the Almighty said which means: The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely - (2) The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend. (8:3) 2

And, Allaah, the Almighty said which means: Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured." (28) And, Allaah, the Almighty said which means: [Such niches are] in mosques which Allah has ordered to be raised and that His name be mentioned therein; exalting Him within them in the morning and the evenings (36) [Are] men whom neither commerce nor sale distracts from the remembrance of Allah and performance of prayer and giving of zakah. They fear a Day in which the hearts and eyes will [fearfully] turn about - (24:37) In Aayah 36, Allaah, the Most High, mention that in the mosques are men who exalt (do tasbeeh for) Him within them in the morning and the evenings And, Allaah, the Almighty said which means: So is one whose breast Allah has expanded to [accept] Islam and he is upon a light from his Lord [like one whose heart rejects it]? Then, woe to those whose hearts are hardened against the remembrance of Allah. Those are in manifest error. (22) Allah has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver therefrom of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whom He wills. (39:23) Also, from the Sunnah of the Prophet SollAllaahu `alaiyhi wa sallam it is reported that `aaishah, may Allaah be pleased with her, said that the Messenger of Allaah used to remember Allaah in every moment of his. 3

3. ADDITIONAL ENCOURAGEMENT TO BE IN DHIKRULLAAH MORNING AND EVENING And, Allaah, the Almighty said which means: And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and in fear without being apparent in speech - in the mornings and the evenings. And do not be among the heedless. (205) Anas, may Allaah be pleased with him, said that he heard the Prophet SollAllaahu `alaiyhi wa sallam say: "That I sit with people remembering Almighty Allah from the morning (Fajr) prayer until sunrise is more beloved to me than freeing four slaves from among the Children of Isma'il. And, that I sit with people remembering Allah from the afternoon ('Asr) prayer until the sun sets is more beloved to me than freeing four slaves from among the Children of Isma'il." 1 Alhmadulillaah, all the above references indicate the great value of this simple act of worship. In this publication we would only restrict ourselves to Dhikr for the morning and evening and at the time of sleeping. The following needs to be understood: 1) The Adhkaar are all taken from Husn Muslim by Sa`eed bin `Aliyy ibn Wahf Al-Qahtaanee (may Allaah reward him abundantly). 2) He did not restrict himself to the verification of the Ah- Hadeeth of Shaikh Al-Albanie (rahimahullaah) although he strongly relies on them. However, if his Shaikh Ibn 1 Al-Albani graded it good in SahihAbu Dawud. 4

Our additions: Baaz (rahimahullaah) mentions that a Hadeeth is good, he will use it even if Al-Albine says differently. 3) In his book the reward for the Dhikr is not generally cited. We feel that this is important to encourage the student to make him strive to do these Adhkaar, so we added it wherever there is mention of it. 4) We formatted the morning and evening Dhikr differently from the way he did, since sometimes a dhikr has to be used for morning and the evening but needs an adjustment to indicate this. We, by Allaah s grace, related the hadeeth fully as it should be recited for the morning and then related the complete narration as it should be recited in the evening. 5) We have divided the morning and evening dhikr into three sections. First, Adhkaar for the morning only; Second, Adhkaar that must be said for both morning and evening and; third, Adhkaar for evening only. To use the compilation effectively, a person starts his/her dhikr for morning by reading the MORNING ONLY section and then read THE MORNING AND EVENING section. For the evening, he starts with the MORNING AND EVENING section and then read the EVENING section. We hope and pray that Allaah, the Almighty blesses this effort and make it beneficial for the Muslims. We also pray that Allaah forgive us and our parents and all Muslims and grant us all His Jannah. Aameen. 5

We have entered a new evening upon the natural religion of Islam, the word of pure faith, the religion of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the faith of our father Ibrahim. He was upright (in worshipping Allah), and a Muslim and he was not of those who associate others (in worship) with Allah EVENING ONLY "أ ع وذ ب ك ل م ا اهلل الت ام ا م ن ش ير م ا خ ل ق ". Aoozhu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min sharri maa khalaq. I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created. (Recite three times in Arabic in the evening.) 24 Ahmad, An-Nasa'i, Amalul- Yawm wal-laylah, At-Tirmithi 25

Whoever recites this three times in the evening will be protected from insect stings FOR MORNING AND EVENING " ل إ ل ه إ ل اهلل و ح د ه ل ش ر يك ل ه ل ه ع ل ى ك يل ش ي ء ق د ير ". ال م ل ك و ل ه ا ل م د و ه و Laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahulmulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa 'alaa kulli shayin Qadeer. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise and He is Able to do all things. (Recite ten times in Arabic or one time to ward off laziness.) Rewards: i. Saying it ten (10) times in the morning and evening: Allah will write ten Hasanaat (rewards) for whoever recites this ten times in the morning, and forgive him ten misdeeds and give him the reward of freeing ten slaves and protect him from Satan. Whoever recites this ten times in the evening will get this same reward. 26 Saying it ten (10) times in the morning and evening: Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet said: ii. 25 Ahmad, An-Nasa'i, 'Amalul-Yawm wal-laylah, At-Tirmithi. According to Al-Albani, Ibn Majah's chain of transmission is sound (Sahih), and following Ibn Baz, At-Tirmithi's report is good (Hasan). 26 An-Nasa'i, 'Amalul-Yawm wal-laylah, Albani (Sahih). 26

iii. iv. "Allah will write one hundred Hasanat for whoever says There is no God but Allah alone, He has no partner. To Allah is possession of everything, and to Him all praise is. He is Capable of all things' ten times in the morning, and forgive him one hundred misdeeds. He will have the reward of freeing a slave and will be protected from Satan throughout the day unto dusk. Whoever says it in the evening will have the same reward." 27 Saying it once (1) in the morning and evening: Whoever recites this in the morning, will have the reward of freeing a slave from the Children of Isma'il. Ten Hasanaat (rewards) will be written for him, and he will be forgiven ten misdeeds, raised up ten degrees, and be protected from Satan until evening. Whoever says it in the evening will have the same reward until morning. 28 Saying it (100) one hundred times for the day Whoever recites Laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa 'alaa kulli shayin Qadeer times in a day will have (the reward) of freeing 10 slave. 100 Hasanaat (good deeds rewards) will be written for him, and 100 bad deeds will be erased, and he be protected from Satan until evening. And none will come with better than him except who says it more (than 100 times). 29 In explaining this Hadeeth, an Nawawee said: What is apparent from this hadeeth is that the one who says it 100 times in his day, be it together or separate in different sittings, or some of it in the first part of the day and some of it at the end of 27 Ahmad. Its chain of transmission is good (Hasan), Ibn Baz, 28 Abu Dawud, Ahmad, Al-Albani grades it Sahih. 29 Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim 27

the day will achieve. However, the best thing is to do it together in the first part of the day so that the protection would be for his entire day. 9.
