ABIMS equips its students with skills, knowledge and attitude to effectively and efficiently handle day-to-day challenges of personal and professional life. I am also pleased to learn that the Institute has been successfully publishing its Newsletter, 'ABIMS Times' for last ten years. A newsletter is instrumental in making various stakeholders aware of the events and activities being undertaken by the institution. The publication of the 'ABIMS Times' for a decade now demonstrates the commitment and transparency on the part of Institute and its management. 2 Messages nd The ABIMS is coming out with this year's 2 issue of its newsletter for the half-year ending October, It is bringing out to its readers the information on Institute's events and activities, news about the students' academic performance & their placement, updates on academic contribution of faculty members and upcoming events of the Institute. As the academic institutions all over whether they are public, private or unconventional play an important role in nation building, they are the backbone of any nation and hence, it becomes the responsibility of all the stakeholders to maintain its quality at all levels to utmost level of satisfaction. They provide students a large variety of learning environments and learning spaces where their overall personality is developed through participation in academic and co-curricular activities undertaken as the purpose of education is to develop their ability to think and learn about the world around them. We therefore, feel happy to share that ABIMS has witnessed allround development during this half year period. Besides maintaining the academic standard where the students' result has been almost 100% with female students outshining the male students, they participated in various co-curricular activities, attended many motivating guest lectures, and final year passed out interested students of batch had secured jobs of reasonably good packages. The students' training & placement has always been our top priority and we get succeeding too, but the overall jobs scarcity and other socio-economic issues of society still remaining a challenge for us despite the fact that country's economy is growing. The question is why and it needs to be answered. As a responsible and committed institution, we need to sensitize ourselves and the students at large to stand against all odds and help the society and country in resolving those issues. We, at Al-Barkaat besides building strong core academics with good combination of soft skills development, try to imbibe in students a right kind of attitude with total concentration to make them independent, socially responsible and groomed individual by imparting them holistic education. And as ever the Al-Barkaat Institute of Management Studies and its dedicated team will remain committed to providing a quality and value based education to all its students. 3 Campus Buzz TEACHERS' DAY CELEBRATION The Al-Barkaat Educational Society felicitated its faculty members from various sister institutions on the auspicious occasion, of Teachers' Day. On the occasion, Honorable President of the Society Prof. Syed Muhammad Amin bestowed his love and blessings to the ABES teaching fraternity by sharing his inspiring life experiences of his interactions with his teachers when he was a student and with his disciples as himself as a teacher. Dr. Ahmad Mujtaba Siddiqui the Joint Secretary, Al-Barkaat Educational Society and Dr. F.U. Siddiqui, Coordinator, Al-Barkaat Educational Institutions blessed the teaching fraternity with their kind and encouraging words. They both emphasised the strategic importance of teachers as the catalysts of social change. The Vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Sabiha Khan, Principal, Al-Barkaat Public School. ORIENTATION PROGRAMME MBA 1st semester Orientation Programme was held on August 16, The programme covered new entrants' thorough briefing about the syllabus, examination pattern, Executive Committee of the Society and Governing Body of Institute. New batch students were also briefed about training and placement cell activities, Students' code of conduct, soft skills, life skills, communication skills and business programme vocabulary exercises. Towards the end, freshers enjoyed while taking active part in some management games. The Director, ABIMS along with faculty & staff were present during the programme. 4 Campus Buzz GUEST LECTURE A Guest Lecture was delivered on October 6, 2018 by an International Motivational Trainercum-Counsaller and Founder President, Raabta Foundation, Pune (Maharastra), Mr. Sayyed Saeed Ahmed on personality development on the theme "I am the Best-Design Your Own Future". The students of Al-Barkaat Institute of Management Studies (ABIMS), Al-Barkaat Institute of Education (ABIE) and Al-Barkaat College of Graduate Studies (ABCGS) along with faculty members enthusiastically attended the event. The Director, ABIMS, welcomed, felicitated and presented vote of thanks to the guest speaker. A Guest Lecture was organized on 23rd October 2018 in ABIMS Convention Hall, wherein Mr. Ahmad Nadeem, Co-founder, FSN Consulting Services LLP delivered an informative lecture on How to Face an Interview. The Director, ABIMS welcomed the guest by presenting him a bouquet and memento. All the faculty members along with students of MBA- First and Final years were present during the session. The T&P team thanked Mr. Ahmad Nadeem for sparing his valuable time with students and guiding them through the tips and techniques of interviews. TIKONA INFINET PRIVATE LIMITED CAMPUS PLACEMENT DRIVE India s leading company in broadband and wifi products and services, Tikona Infinet Private Limited conducted a pooled campus placement drive in Al-Barkaat Institute of Management Studies on 20th October, Campus Lead Mr. Gohar Zahid Siddiqui from company s Mumbai head quarters oriented, assessed and selected participating MBA and BBA final year students from ABIMS, ABCGS and ACET. Students went through group discussion (GD) and personal Interview (PI) rounds of selection process and finally eight (08) students from ABIMS, two (02) students each from ABCGS and ACET bagged the offers of employment. Director ABIMS and TPO & team welcomed the selection panel. 5 Campus Buzz ABIMS- A TEST PRACTICE CENTRE (TPC) OF NTA (NATIONAL TESTING AGENCY), MHRD, GOI As per directives of Min. of HRD, GOI, New Delhi, the NTA (National Testing Agency) decided to establish a network of TPCs (Test Practice Centres) throughout India for students belonging to rural/ nearby areas so that they can get an opportunity to practice on computers before taking their various competitive exams. like JEE, NEET, NET/JRF and also CMAT, CAT etc. in future. The Educational Institutions were accordingly approached by them and therefore, we got our Institute registered as it fulfilled the prescribed criteria for TPC. The designated TPCs are available free of charge to such students (who get themselves registered with the institution of their choice) on Saturdays (1 shift of 3 hours) and Sundays (2 shifts, each of 3 hrs.). In a month therefore, there are total 12 shifts operational. And for this service, they will be paying to each TPC some amount of monthly remuneration. It has become operational w.e.f. September 08, 2018 and our Centre has received wider recognition particularly amongst NET and JRF aspirants of University (AMU) besides JEE aspirants of the University and also of nearby areas. Till date around 600 students were allotted to us of which a majority has undertaken their practice session. These practice sessions will continue till respective Tests are conducted. However, the Government of India has plans to continue these Centres for future also. INDUSTRIAL VISIT MBA-First year students visited manufacturing plant of one of the India's leading ready-made garments manufacturing plant of TCNS Limited, Noida on October 27, The TCNS Limited is an organization with more than four decades of experience in providing customized Apparel Products to numerous esteemed international brands. Having started operations in 1972, TCNS prides in being an efficient, ethical and reliable sourcing base for many of leading Global Apparel Brands like GAP, CK, Disney, Walmart, NEXT, Gucci to name a few. The students along with faculty coordinators were welcomed by Mr. A. Rahman Khan, Manager HR. After refreshment, the students visited the manufacturing facilities. 6 Faculty Buzz RASTRIYA EKTA DIWAS (NATIONAL ST UNITY DAY) - 31 OCTOBER The Al-Barkaat Institute of Management Studies observed Rastriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31st October, On the occasion, Director, Faculty, Staff and Students of the Institute took the pledge. While talking on the occasion, the Director, ABIMS mentioned about the role Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played during the India's Independence Movement and after Independence for the integration of the country. His uncompromising efforts towards consolidation of country earned him the title Iron Man of India. With this, he told the students that the role Sardar Patel played for the unity of country does not end with him; it is now we who all have to carry forward his efforts and keep the country united. Dr. Danish Hussain 1. Successfully defended Ph.D on the topic "The Use and Effectiveness of Celebrities in Indian Advertising" from FMSR, Muslim University on September 8, Paper accepted for publication in International Journal of Indian Culture and Business Management published by InderScience titled "Celebrity use in Indian Advertising: Analysis and Appraisal" on September 2, Reviewed research paper for Asian Journal of Economics, Business and Accounting published by SCIENCEDOMAIN International, in PEARSON-CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS On May 15, 2018 a demonstrative session on digital library was given by Mr. Aditiya Gautam, Territory Sales Manager, Person-Cambridge University Press in ABIMS Convention Hall. The session was attended by heads and faculty members of various sister institutions under Al-Barkaat Educational Society. Mr. Aditya Gautam was welcomed by the Director, Al-Barkaat Institute of Management Studies and felicitated with presentation of bouquet and memento. 7 Students Buzz FRESHER'S PARTY 'KHWABEEDA' The Students of MBA Final year arranged and organized a grand Fresher's party for MBA First year students in the name and title of Khwabeeda 2K18 on October 10, Lubna Aijaz, Mohd Farhan, Anam Parvaiz & Zubair Ahmad bagged Ms. Fresher, Mr. Fresher, Ms. Evening and Mr. Evening titles respectively. Seniors as well as juniors displayed and demonstrated their talents through various cultural activities like solo and group songs, mimicry, mono-acting, skit which were highly appreciated by the audience. Fauziya Parveen, Abu Sufiyan, Nayla Parveen, Saima Khan etc presented a heart wrenching skit on Women Empowerment which won the hearts of the audience. The event ended with the National Anthem. During the event Director, ABIMS, Faculty and staff members were present. TOUR JAISALMER, JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN (OCTOBER 26-31, 2018) The MBA III-semester students toured some of the important historical and adventurous places in the state of Rajasthan, a state in North India famous for its Rajputana culture and Thar dessert during October 26-31, The students and faculty coordinators visited various points viz. Jaisalmer, Jaipur and Bhangarh and took part in different activities like Camping, Dessert Safari, Bone Fire, Rock Climbing, Rajasthani Folk Dance etc. Overall the trip was amazing and a memorable experience for all. 8 Article & Upcoming Events Rabi-ul-awwal The most significant day in the history of mankind is the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal. The significance of the day is associated with the dignity of the man who was born on this day. The man born on this day was the answer to Abraham's supplication. And he was the glad tidings that Jesus Christ gave to his people. His birth had been foretold in previous divine Books. The Jews recognized him as one recognizes one's child. They would even pray against their enemies through him. In short, he is a great blessing for the whole of humanity. The 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal is especially important to the Muslims, because on this day the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was born. This day takes them back to the memory of the one who led humanity from darkness to light and who is described by Allah as a mercy to all the worlds. The Muslims in East and West celebrate the Prophet's birth anniversary on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal. Such an occasion is meant to remind people of how the Prophet lived his life. Allah Almighty directs us to follow in the footsteps of His Beloved Messenger: Verily, in the Messenger of Allah, you have a good example for him who looks to Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much. (al-qur'an, 33: 21) Nowadays, celebration of such a religious occasion is extremely important, especially for youth. Forgetful of such sacred events and their significance, they have indulged in other pleasures. When their hearts become abodes for the love of the Prophet, the best of the creation, they will emulate his practice who was an embodiment of love, sympathy and peace. So the commemoration of the Prophet's birthday should be cherished and maintained. Such celebrations will instil in them the values, ethics and moral code practised by the Prophet. This occasion serves a great purpose in that it brings the people closer to the teachings of Islam and to the Prophet's way of life. It causes them to remember that the Prophet was a blessing for the whole universe, so they should also behave with others like him. His lesson of forbearance will motivate them to forgive even the bitter enemies. On this occasion the Muslim parents should tell the stories of the Prophet to their children stories that shed light on different aspects of his life: his birth, childhood, youth and adult life. This practice will kindle the flame of love in their hearts. And this message will serve as a beacon of light for the future generations, so that they will live together in peace, fraternity and solidarity.
