3 Welcome Whoever you are, wherever you are on your journey of faith, you are welcome here. The Liturgy of the Word (Please stand as able) 3 Wilma Jakobsen Hymn: By All your Saints with St. Jude verse Hymnal 232 Opening Acclamation Celebrant: Blessed be the one holy and living God. People: Glory to God for ever and ever. Collect for Purity Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen The Collect for St. Jude Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Let us pray. O God, we thank you for the glorious company of the apostles, and especially on this day for Jude; and we pray that, as he was faithful and zealous in his mission, so we may with ardent devotion make known the love and mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Please be seated) The Lesson: Ephesians 2:13-22 Now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For Christ is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. Christ has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it. So Christ came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for through Christ both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. In Chirst the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God. After the lesson, the reader says: Hear what the Spirit is saying to God s people. People: Thanks be to God. Psalm 119: O Lord, your word is everlasting; * it stands firm in the heavens. 90 Your faithfulness remains from one generation to another; * you established the earth, and it abides.

4 91 By your decree these continue to this day, * for all things are your servants. 92 If my delight had not been in your law, * I should have perished in my affliction. 93 I will never forget your commandments, * because by them you give me life. 94 I am yours; oh, that you would save me! * for I study your commandments. 95 Though the wicked lie in wait for me to destroy me, * I will apply my mind to your decrees. 96 I see that all things come to an end, * but your commandment has no bounds. (Please stand as able) The Gospel: John 15:17-27 Minister: The Holy Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ according to John. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. Jesus said to his disciples, I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, Servants are not greater than their master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not have sin. But now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. It was to fulfill the word that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning. Minister: The Gospel of the Savior. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sermon Wilma Jakobsen (Please stand as able) Prayers of the People (Silence is observed after the sermon for meditation or reflection.) People: And also with you. Prayer for Healing (kneel as you are able) Those who are unable to get to the altar rail are invited to stay in their places and others around them are invited to raise a hand toward them during the prayer. O God, the source of all health: So fill our hearts with faith in your love, that with calm expectancy we may make room for your power to possess us, and gracefully accept your healing; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Blessing for Celebrations (kneel as you are able) Loving Creator, You are the source of life and the source of love. We thank you for all who celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and special events today. Watch over them as their days increase, bless and guide them wherever they may be. Amen. Reflection: Strengthening our Community Together Scott Rotondo.since you excel in everything in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness, and in the love we have kindled in you see that you also excel in this grace of giving...the goal is equality, as it is written: The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little. 2 Corinthians 8:7b, 14b-15 (A moment of silent reflection follows; offertory sentence concludes the silence.) How are you being transformed more into the likeness of Christ at St. Jude s? The Liturgy of Holy Communion Offertory Sentence Offertory & Presentation (Please stand as the ushers present the gifts at the altar.) 5

6 The Presentation of Gifts and Prayer for Ingathering Creator God, giver of life and source of our freedom, we recognize that yours is the earth and its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it. It is from your hands that we have received all we have and are and will be. You call us to be stewards of your abundance, the caretakers of all you have entrusted to us. Help us to use your gifts wisely and to share them generously. We pray your blessing upon these gifts and signs of financial promise now and in the year to come. May our stewardship be a genuine reflection of our discipleship, a tangible sign of our commitment to Christ. We pray with grateful hearts in Jesus name. Amen. our God of all power, Ruler of the Universe, you are worthy of glory and praise. Glory to you for ever and ever. At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth, our island home. By your will they were created and have their being. From the primal elements you brought forth the human race, and blessed us with memory, reason, and skill. You made us the rulers of creation. But we turned against you, and betrayed your trust; and we turned against one another. Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight. Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets and sages you revealed your righteous Law. And in the fullness of time you sent your only Son, born of a woman, to fulfill your Law, to open for us the way of freedom and peace. By his blood, he reconciled us. By his wounds, we are healed. And therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly chorus, with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all those in every generation who have looked to you in hope, to proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn: Holy, holy, holy Lord God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. And so God, we who have been redeemed by him, and made a new people by water and the Spirit, now bring before you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord. 6

7 On the night he was betrayed he took bread, said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to his friends, and said, Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said, Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Remembering now his work of redemption, and offering to you this sacrifice of thanksgiving, We celebrate his death and resurrection, as we await the day of his coming. Lord God of our Fathers and Mothers; God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Sarah, Rebekah, Leah, Rachel and Hagar; God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Open our eyes to see your hand at work in the world about us. Deliver us from the presumption of coming to this Table for solace only, and not for strength; for pardon only, and not for renewal. Let the grace of this Holy Communion make us one body, one spirit in Christ, that we may worthily serve the world in Christ s name. Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread. Accept these prayers and praises, God, through Jesus Christ our great High Priest, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, your Church gives honor, glory, and worship, from generation to generation. Amen. As our Savior Christ has taught us, we pray in the language or version of our choice: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen. Lord s Prayer in Korean Amen.
