Dates Programme Title & Price Programme Leader Programme Description Mon Sep 9 Fri Sep 13 Given for Life 275 (shared) 355 (single) 315 (shared) 435 (single) Andy Raine 'It's not what you do, but the underlying WHY that you do it that betrays who you are.' Andy Raine, from the Northumbria Community, and author/editor of Celtic Daily Prayer, helps you to unpack this and discover the gift that was always there. Many have been helped to relax into who they really are through working through this material. Andy maps out the spiritual background for his approach, outlined in his book, very different from personality indicator schemes such as Myers-Briggs. Andy is joined by his wife Anna Raine, singer and songwriter and keeper of the Raine household up on Holy Island. Mon Sep 16 Fri Sep 20 Adventures in Prayer 275 (shared) 355 (single) 315 (shared) 435 (single) Amy Boucher Pye Feel stuck in your prayer life? Or guilty about missing out on more regular meetings with God? Join us for a retreat exploring different types of prayer guilt-free. We ll be looking at ancient practices and modern, from contemplation to praying via social media. And we ll look at listening prayer, for if life is supposed to be a great conversation with God, how come so often we feel like we can t hear him? Your fellow pilgrim will be Amy Boucher Pye, who is a writer and editor and an American transplanted to the UK. She s working on her first book, Beloved Am I, and writes regularly for Christian magazines such as Liberti, Woman Alive, and Christian Marketplace. She also loves writing Bible reading notes, including for New Daylight and Inspiring Woman Every Day.
Mon Sep 30 Fri Oct 4 Writer's Retreat 295 (shared) 395 (single) 335 (shared) 475 (single) Adrian Plass Why are stories so universally loved? Why did Jesus choose them above all other forms of communication? What are the essential elements of these cosy, exciting, funny or mysterious works of art. How do you light a scene and bring your characters to life? How do you tell your own story or bring the bible to life? Adrian has just produced his 36th book and over the twenty five years he has been writing he's picked up quite a few useful tips. He and Bridget love facilitating other peoples work. Whatever your level or experience of writing, none or lots, we promise you will be amazed by what you can produce during this programme. Lots of questions, lots of advice, lots of laughs and of course lots of stories. Mon Oct 21 Fri Oct 25 Seeing beyond seeing - The Spirituality of Photography Sat Nov 2 Sat Nov (shared) 375 (single) 335 (shared) 455 (single) Brad Berglund This retreat will focus beyond technique, choosing instead to emphasize the artistic, the gift of seeing life in new and surprising ways. Photography is a powerful tool to assist us in practicing ways of seeing with heart and soul. Brad Berglund will help you find new and creative ways to look through the lens. This retreat will include a session on journaling and reflecting on the meaning of your own photos or the photos of others. An author, spiritual director and retreat director, Brad, based in Colorado USA, has a degree in theology (Eastern Theological Seminary) and music (classical guitar - Conservatory of Music, UMKC and the Royal Conservatory, Madrid). He is Director of Illuminated Journeys, an organization devoted to the spiritual deepening of individuals and churches, and Director of Reinventing Sunday, an ecumenical ministry that offers worship consulting, worship renewal seminars, and workshops on Taizé-style worship. El Palmeral is a small family run business, but the maintenance jobs mount up and over 50 volunteers have already joined us to do anything from painting walls to fixing chairs, gardening and weeding, and pruning and removing garden waste. Your working hours will be 9.30am pm, and afternoons and evenings are free to relax, talk or read. All we ask for is contribution towards food and running costs. It s a low cost introduction to the place for those who like to do as well as to be, and you can choose to join us some or all of the week(min 3 days). Fri 29 Nov Tue 2 Dec Advent Preparation 215 (shared) 295 (single) 255 (shared) 375 (single) Saturday at midnight marks the beginning of Advent, the period during which we prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ at Christmas. It is one of our favourite times in the liturgical calendar. The word Advent means "coming" or "arrival." Advent also symbolizes the spiritual journey of individuals, and daily guided meditations form a framework to develop contemplative practice. There is (as always) the opportunity to follow the Journey, an audio guided Labyrinth Path of personal discovery, with an Advent focus.
2014 Sat Feb 1st Sat Feb 8th In February, daytime temperatures can be in the 20 s, but evenings and nights are cool, so the 50 volunteers or so that have helped us to date often curl up in front of the log fire! Jobs in February are often garden based, with oranges and satsumas to harvest, and dates and olives to clear up. Choose how many days you want to do, our working hours will be 9.30am pm, and afternoons and evenings are free to relax, talk or read. All we ask for is contribution towards food and running costs it can be a good opportunity to try the place out! Mon Feb 10 Fri Feb 14 Songwriters Retreat 295 (shared) 415 (single) 335 (shared) 495 (single) Noel & Tricia Richards Fancied yourself as a bit of a songwriter? Perhaps you ve written quite a lot, started a few and given up, or maybe you don t know even where to start? Few people know more about being successful songwriters that Noel and Tricia. Noel Richards is a Welsh singersongwriter, worship leader, and recording artist, now resident in Mallorca. Between them, they have composed many songs that are used in contemporary worship. This is a unique chance to work closely with them, whatever your level. Note that if there s one in the house who is a musician, and one who isn t, there will be a parallel programme of activities led by El Palmeral staff through the day for those who like sight-seeing and local culture, so do sign up as couples! Mon Mar 3 Fri Mar 7 Lent Reflection 215 (shared) 295 (single) 255 (shared) 375 (single) A retreat including Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, marking the beginning of this forty day period of prayer and preparation for Easter. Daily guided meditations are complemented by resources to reflect on prior to Lent, ideas about beginning our journey through the 40+ days and ways to integrate the symbols into our everyday lives. A timely Lent preparation, led by Mike from El Palmeral. Sat Mar 8 Sat Mar 15 In March, we are exiting the mild Spanish winter, but the soil is often just right for planting spring and summer crops. Again, daytime temperatures can be in the 20 s, but evenings and nights are still cool, and you have to be pretty hardy to try the pool, although some do! Jobs in March also include painting the outside furniture, ready for the new season. Choose how many days you want to do, our working hours will be 9.30am pm, and afternoons and evenings are free to relax, talk or read. All we ask for is contribution towards food and running costs March may be a good month to try us out.
Fri Apr 11 Tue Apr 15 Palm Sunday long weekend 235 (shared) 315 (single) 275 (shared) 395 (single) Mike & Julie Jowett On the Sunday before the beginning of Holy Week, we celebrate one of the most joyous feasts of the year. Palm Sunday is the commemoration of the Entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem. Having anticipated His arrival, the people when out to meet the Lord and welcomed. In this retreat, we focus on receiving Christ and reflect on what lies within the heart of worship. The palm groves of Elche, a medieval heritage, are the calling card of Elche. In the Procession of Palms, Elche comes into its own, thanks to the amount of white, blanched palm leaves available. The programme is closely integrated with several local fiestas and visits, led by Mike & from El Palmeral. Thu Apr 17 Tue Apr 22 Easter Meditation 265 (shared) 375 (single) 305 (shared) 475 (single) Easter weekend, from Maundy Thursday through to Easter Sunday, narrates the Story of the Passion. Within arguably the greatest story ever told we find themes of suffering, redemption, incarnation, obedience and resurrection. A journey of guided meditation takes place over the weekend, along with visits to local celebrations. Note this is a 6 day, 5 night programme, to fit in the local Elche processions and events, led by Mike from El Palmeral. Mon May 5 Fri May 9 Beloved: Rooting Identity as Women of God 275 (shared) 415 (single) 315 (shared) 495 (single) Amy Boucher Pye As the title suggests, this is a Women Only retreat! For some, it is a long journey to discover true identity and to accept fully being truly God's beloved. Amy Boucher Pye is a writer and editor and an American transplanted to the UK. She s working on her first book, Beloved Am I, and writes regularly for Christian magazines such as Liberti, Woman Alive, and Christian Marketplace. She also loves writing Bible reading notes, including for New Daylight and Inspiring Woman Every Day. Mon May 12 May 16 A seriously funny retreat (title tbc) Adrian & Bridget Plass An unforgettable opportunity to spend time with Adrian & Bridget Plass. They are widely in demand at all kinds of events, not least because they have discovered that laughter, love and authenticity are key elements in any kind of Christian ministry. Married for more than forty years, with four grown-up children, they use a blend of story, poetry, drama and humour to express the love and the challenge of God.
Mon Jun 9 Fri Jun 13 Telling the Story Bob Hartman Bob Hartman has been working for over fifteen years as a performance storyteller. He uses his dynamic and interactive style to entertain audiences on both sides of the Atlantic - from the Pittsburgh Children's Museum to schools, bookshops and major festivals throughout the UK, including Spring Harvest and Greenbelt. Bob's programme combines traditional folk tales from around the world, retold in his fresh, inimitable style, with his own stories. He loves to help people create their own stories on the spot. He runs practical workshops for adults who want to improve their storytelling skills. Whatever the occasion, Bob's storytelling sessions are always exciting, engaging and, above all, interactive! Mon Jul 14 Fri Jul 18 How to become a blessing reflecting on the life of Barnabas Jeff & Kay Lucas Jeff and Kay Lucas help us in this retreat to be the person others want to be alongside by reflecting on the life and work of Barnabas. Jeff is an author, speaker and broadcaster, the author of 22 books, he also broadcasts weekly radio shows throughout Europe on Premier and UCB Radio in Australasia, as well as a weekly television programme, Life with Lucas Everyday on Revelation TV. He holds a teaching post at Timberline Church, Fort Collins, Colorado, USA. His many years fronting Spring Harvest have made him a familiar face at large events, but it is in an intimate setting like this that you get to see what really makes him tick. Note that the programme runs Monday Thursday, with Friday as an opportunity for final personal reflection. Mon Sep 8 Fri Sep 12 Immersed.. in God s presence Liz Babbs Liz Babbs is the author of nine books, several CD s and a regular speaker at conferences and retreats. Her latest CD, Immerse, has been hailed as Kingsway s first prayer and praise CD and includes tracks from top Spring Harvest worship leaders, Sue Rinaldi, Geraldine Latty and Lou Fellingham. As Liz says Meditation helps you to start listening to the heart of God and to hear what God is calling you into. You end up being much more God-effective in terms of the outworking of what you do, rather than being self driven by your own drives and ambitions.
