Tahoe Community Church Notes, Announcements, Needs and Reminders October 2016 Worshiping Together, Making Disciples, Reaching our World The Search for a New Pastor is Underway! By Kathy Pavich Sunday Worship Schedule 9:00 a.m. Sunday Morning Study Classes - Adult Bible Study The Book of John in the MPR. 10:00 a.m. Praise Team Warm Up in Sanctuary 10:10 a.m. Coffee/Fellowship Time in MPR Dear Church, The following is an explanation of the process the Pastor Search Committee will go through as we search for a new Pastor. This will not be a quick process as the Church Profile alone will take some time, and then we will proceed in God's timing until He calls a Pastor to this Body. Pastor Search Committee Members: Bob Pavich Kathy Pavich Carol Borsos Sandy Erridge Jan Hurst Annarose Salvado Dan Wilkinson Bill Kolstad Kathleen Huggins (Bob Daly- minimally involved but kept informed on everything.) Purpose: To search for a Pastor for Tahoe Community Church following God's Word through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. First the committee members are to Pray, then Listen, and then Obey by doing the work set before us. Committee Process: While there may be twists and turns to this process, or God leads us to do this differently - the search process will look something like this: 1. Committee will complete Church Profile. 2. Committee will agree on which seminaries and resources to contact regarding potential candidates. 3. Committee will send Profile with invitation for prospective candidates to agreed upon Seminaries, etc. 4. Committee will request that candidate resumes' include a copy of their latest sermon in DVD format or by a website. 10:30 a.m. Worship Service (Nursery and Children s Church Available) 5:00 p.m. Youth Group in the MPR Weekly Church Activities Wednesday 7:00 a.m. Men s Bible Study Fellowship at Lakeside upstairs restaurant 8:30 a.m. Prayer Gathering in Sanctuary 3:30 p.m. Awesome Kids 6:00 p.m. Praise Team Practice Thursday 9:00 a.m. Women s Morning Study 5:30 p.m. Women s Evening Study Friday 6:00 p.m. Men s Bible Study 2:30 p.m. Food Pantry (2nd and 4th Fridays) It s Shoebox Time By Karen Beverage Our annual Shoebox Packing Party is scheduled for Saturday November 5th at 1:30 pm We are in prayer that this year s packing party will be bigger and better than last year s. With your help it will be. This is what we pack into each box: Spiral notebook, coloring book Pens, pencils, crayons Pencil sharpener, sticker sheet Soap, washcloth Tooth brush, tooth paste Comb or brush, hair clips Beanie baby, tennis ball, cars or jewelry Socks and underwear $7 for shipping and lots of prayer Please consider what God would have you donate to these Gospel opportunities 145 Daggett Way Stateline, Nevada (775) tahoechurch@gmail.com Office Telephone extensions: Pastor Paul-101, Ted-103, Sarah and Preschool-107.

Pastor Search Committee (Cont.) 5. Committee will review all resumes' received. 6. Committee will do background checks on possible candidates and initial interviews. Elders will interview Candidates that are of interest. (If candidate is married - interview wife and maybe have conversations with any children.) 7. Committee will invite potential Candidates to preach. This will also allow us to meet the Candidate and any family. This also provides a candidate the chance to check us out too. We have arrived in Kyrgyzstan From James, Hannah, and Esa, We've made it safely to our new home! Praise God, he's provided many brothers and sisters who are helping us get settled. You can pray for Esa as he's having an especially difficult time adjusting to the new time zone. Other than that, all is well :) Thank you for interceding for us! 8. Committee will further narrow the field of candidates in order to decide on final Candidate, or to go ahead and proceed with a further search. 9. If the Committee and the Elders feel there is no need for a further search and the Candidate in question also feels CALLED to Tahoe Community Church: The decision of a Candidate to be our Pastor is put before the Members of the Congregation for a vote. The Committee would like to have open communication with the Body during this process. Comments and questions are welcome, so feel free to talk with any Committee member. We request prayer for the Committee and Elders during this process. This Committee wants to do the will of the Lord, not the wants and wishes of ourselves. Pray that the Lord would guide us and provide us with a Pastor He has CALLED to this Church. We have two URGENT needs to bring to your attention. We have new addresses. Please check your spam or other folders if you haven't seen the newsletter we sent yesterday. New addresses: hannahthoron@protonmail.com jamesthorson@protonmail.com Many of you have asked how you can help us. Well here is our most URGENT need: We are searching for 31 people who are willing to commit to scheduling one day a month to fast and pray for our family and the Central Asian people. Through this, every day of every month will be covered. PLEASE make this sacrifice for the Central Asian people, and us so we can assign you a day. "There is no such thing as a perfect Minister - nor a perfect Church for that matter! By God s grace imperfect people who trust him can do amazing and wonderful things for the Kingdom. Let God give you the next Minister and treat that person as the gift they are. Appreciation always improves ministry." Men s Bible Study Moves to Thursday Nights The Men s Monday night Bible study group has moved to Thursday nights. The evening starts at 6:00 pm with a fellowship meal and leads into a bible study. The Men have just started going through the book of Nehemiah. Contact Jell Brumbach for more information.

During the few years that I ve lived in Lake Tahoe, I don t recall a quality CCM concert produced on the mountain. Usually, concerts occurred off the mountain in Reno, Carson City or Sacramento. We won t only be producing this concert in October, either. If we can prove to venue management that we can sell enough (ie. all the) tickets for Awakened in Tahoe presents Susan Ashton, this will be a stepping stone to using the Harvey s Outdoor Arena a 7,000 seat venue for a CCM concert June 2017, which would become an annual event. We are thrilled to have Susan Ashton as our first CCM artist join us with her impressive scope of talent and experience including: singles hitting #1 on the CCM chart 2. 2 Grammy nominations 3. 1 Grammy Award and 2 Dove Awards 4. Opened for Garth Brooks for his 1994 European Tour 5. for more information Editor s Note: This article was submitted by Deacon Jerry Klosterboer. The author of the article, and the producer of the Susan Ashton concert is Jerry s friend Todd Mcintyre. Greetings to the Greater Lake Tahoe Church Community It is with great joy for me to announce a special CCM concert Awakened in Tahoe presents Susan Ashton will be produced at Harrah s Lake Tahoe on Saturday, October 29, In the early 1990s, I was the youth director for a local Lake Tahoe church. At that time, I had the idea of bringing Susan Ashton to Lake Tahoe for a concert, but the logistics just couldn t happen. Returning to Lake Tahoe in June 2016, that same Susan Ashton concert concept resurfaced and is now happening. Great Prairie Sports is a 501c3 that I founded in Since that time, we have staged a number of community/olympic development events. In the Discipline of Modern Pentathlon (Fencing, Swimming, Equestrian Show Jumping, Running/Shooting), I coached athletes to 5 national championships and 8 qualified for World Championships. I was even the assistant coach for a continental youth championship in Havana, Cuba in August Shortly upon my second arrival in Lake Tahoe this summer, I decided to focus on Triathlon (Swim/Bike/Run) as Lake Tahoe is naturally set up as an ideal venue to train Triathletes. Now, you might be asking, Why? Why are you doing this? Why spend so much time and effort in promoting youth sport? What is the payback to you? If so, those are great questions and please allow me to answer with a personal story. Years ago, my father was a basketball coach. In fact, he was the first basketball coach at my high school in Pittsburgh, PA. During one of those basketball years, he coached a boy who was just an ordinary junior high boy. This boy never received a basketball scholarship to play Division 1 in college or qualified for the US Olympic Team or even played in the NBA. No, this boy took a different route in life as he went to college and eventually to seminary. Upon graduation he felt called to write books and his first book (if I have the story correct) was dedicated to my father. In fact, the first copy of the book off the press was given to my father, which is now in my possession. Yet, what is remarkable about this process of developing youth is that if my father wasn t at the right place at the right time, the world may have missed out. You see, that boy that was coached by my father is RC Sproul. While I don t expect to craft the next RC Sproul, it s certainly refreshing and encouraging to know that our actions today do make an impact in the lives of many people for tomorrow. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have Tickets are available at

Women s Autumn Fellowship Autumn has arrived, squirrels are scurrying and it is time to reflect on the things we are stockpiling. Let us celebrate the season with laughter, love, encouraging conversation and food at our Women's Fellowship; Saturday evening October 22nd, at 5:30, in the MPR. We would like to have an extensive salad bar so please sign up for a generous proportion of a salad bar item to enhance it (cheese, bacon bits, ham, chicken, tomatoes, a variety of lettuces, garbanzo beans, a special dressing etc.), a yummy bread or dessert... whatever your choice may be! Please bring your Bibles! Questions? Call Jan at or Suzette at Women s Evening Bible Study The Women s Thursday Evening Bible study will start a new book on Thursday, October 13th at 5:30 pm. They will be doing Jennifer Rothschild s book called Hosea, Unfailing Love Changes Everything All Women are invited to attend. Please contact Liz Cordero for more information and to order books. Men s Morning Bible Study The Men s Wednesday morning group is still meeting at the Lakeside Inn upstairs restaurant at 7:00 am every Wednesday Morning. They have just started looking at the book of Jude. This is a great opportunity for men who like to get up early and study the Bible. The men also share breakfast and enjoy a time of fellowship with each other. The Food Pantry Makes Changes After much prayer and consideration, the Elders have decided to make changes to the Friday afternoon Food Pantry. Yes, the Food Panty will continue to function at Tahoe Community Church, but it will look a little different than it has in the past. The Food Pantry will be run by the Catholic Charities organization, who we have been in partnership with for sometime, starting October 1, It will be run as a mobile unit, which means food will be distributed from their truck. They will come on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month to distribute food to our recipients. We will no longer be collecting food from local grocery stores or the Nevada food bank. Catholic Charities will be providing all the food. We will still need volunteers to help distribute the food, and to help with setting up and taking down tables and cleaning up. Elder Bob will continue to present a message in the MPR at 3:00 prior to food distribution which will be at 3:30. The plan is to provide a special Thanksgiving meal as we have done in the past. Any concerns regarding these changes can be addressed to Kathy and Bob Pavich or to one of the Elders. A New way to Give your Offering Have you every wanted to give an offering but forgot your check book? Have you ever wanted to give to the church from your home? Coming soon, you will be able to give right from your smart phone or from the Church Webpage. We will be using a program from echurch giving called Pushpay. You will be provided with much more information and detailed instructions as we get closer to the launch date. Awesome Kids to Start in October Awesome kids, an afterschool children's program, is scheduled to begin for the year on Wednesday, October 5th at 3:30 p.m. Awesome Kids is for children in Kindergarten thru 6th grade. We had up to 30 kids last year and additional workers are needed and welcome! Contact Jacky Daly for more information

Missionary News & Prayer From: Carol Borsos For more details, and photos on missions, check out the bulletin board in the church lobby. Mirco & Nada Andreev in Macedonia - Pray for those still recovering from the massive flooding and devastation in early August. Pray they acknowledge their need for The Savior. God, add believers to your churches in this part of the world. - Pray for upcoming outreaches, sharing the Gospel with the lost. - Pray for new church plants in the cities and towns. - Pray for the preaching and teaching of the Truth of God s Word to be received and applied in the hearts of Your people, Lord. Tim & Susan Driscoll in Japan - Pray for God's leading as we look at possible candidates for a pastor at Saitama International Church. - Pray for an outreach picnic on Oct Pray for those from English Cafe outreach who seem to be interested and seeking; pray they will bridge over to studying the Bible. FMI Pastor in Pakistan The pastor s son will soon begin his school exams. A tense time for many young people (especially Christians, who are discriminated against in terms of education). These exam results significantly impact what education options remain available for them. Pray God gives his son a clear mind, good memory of things that have been studied, and open doors for higher education. They are soon to have baptisms across pastor s field of outreach. Pray these believers would eagerly proceed with the course of discipleship in the weeks prior to baptism and commit to take this step of obedience to the Lord. Pray Satan would not gain a foothold to sow seeds of discouragement, doubt, or deceit in the lives of these young believers. Pray that they would grow in their ability and passion to reflect the compassion and truth of Jesus Christ to their communities. The current Pakistani government administration is protested against as being corrupt. There is unrest and protests can become violent. Please pray for the local Christians like pastor and his congregations as they are known as peacemakers in the midst of potentially chaotic situations. The FMI-Pakistan national board may need to change date and venue of their October seminar. Pray that the Lord will grant wisdom and insight to the national board, of which our pastor is a member. Pray that the board will lead the church planters and evangelists by their example of courageous and gentle spirits. Our supported pastor is excited to know that you pray for him regularly and thanks you for including his prayer requests in our church's newsletter! Ryan & Danielle Stauffer Praise: We just completed our spiritual emphasis week. We had many opportunities to share the gospel with the students. We had an opportunity to pray with a student and taught him how to say sorry (repentance) to God. We visited an orphanage for disabled children with some secondary students. This is a great service project. We put on a mini-birthday party for one of the kids there. Most of the children are unable to speak and walk. We were able to show them the Gospel and the love of Christ through reading stories and playing music for them. Adelynn is growing a lot. She is able to sit up all by herself, she can roll over (even though she doesn't like it), she can crawl a bit, just started her on solid foods, and she is starting to blabber a bit. Prayer: Ryan is still adjusting to his new job as elementary principal. Pray he will do it well and to the glory of God. It is an uphill battle! Both Stauffer s are very tired, not getting much sleep. Pray they will get more. Danielle is heading up member care. This is a volunteer position, and it takes up a lot of time! Pray she is able to support the school staff, stay rested, and balance priorities as God leads. Pray for Mark (pseudonym). Ryan has been able to talk with this student a lot. He tends to bully other kids and he is the same student Ryan prayed with and talked to about repentance. A Note from Church Family Missions Due to unforeseen circumstances I will need to cancel the Holiday Bazaar for this year. I do hope that this tradition can return next year. I apologize to anyone that has already prepared items for this event and hope that this will not inconvenience too many. My thanks and appreciation to all who have supported and participated in the past and hope that you will join in again next year. Sincerely Liz Gieg, Church Family Missions
