My name is Dan Kirkling, Walk 23, South East Indiana Walk to Emmaus, Table of Stephen. My wife Dot (Dorothy) and I married in 1990 and we were supported by our five children at that event. Later our sixth child came in 1992 and six children were enough to keep us very busy. I made my Walk back on April 26-29, 1990 at Twin Lakes Campground, Versailles IN. Columbus did not have their Walks start until 1993 and thanks to the many that are still in our community for making it happen through God s leadership. My Walk was a very eye opening time of my life that somewhat scared me. To settle in and understand that being a Christian (before Emmaus) was more than church on Sunday and supporting some committees. So this took some time. Working the kitchen team a couple years built team understanding. Working with the new Columbus Indiana Area Emmaus Community as Agape team member, and Assistant Table Leader helped with pieces of the walk that I missed initially. On every Walk that I supported there is seeing Christ in new places, building my Christian life to minister to others yet being ministered to also, and knowing that sharing one s faith is not hard but just to listen and be honest. On to Table Leader (giving talks), Assistant Lay Director and Lay Director (Walk 48 Nov 2003) which gave me much needed leadership understanding. God is depending on each one of us to be a part of the Body of Christ. I accepted the three year commitment on the board in 2002 and became the board secretary to my surprise. The next year was the Database Coordinator, and the third year was Community Lay Director (2004 and this was the big surprise). Remember never to say never, because once God sets your plan in front of you, it can be difficult or even stupid to keep ignoring it. All along the way I keep my Church priorities knowing that Emmaus is a tool to guide me to accepting God s Grace wherever I am in life. All the items above mean nothing in earning that Grace. Next came similar Chrysalis positions that were very special times and used a whole lot of energy in a very wonderful way. Seeing our youngest daughter go through Chrysalis and then come back and work on teams allowed us some visibility of her Christian growth. us. So today I am back on the Emmaus Board as your Community Lay Director and have no idea on what God has new for The Walks and Flights are planned and teams are or have trained and now we must accept The Plan God is giving us and accept that our understanding may not be as clear as we desire. 3 From the Chrysalis Lay Director... Continue to remember and lift up in prayer the spring Chrysalis flights April 29- May 1, 2017 at Camp Hilltop. These are open to high school freshmen through college freshmen. (High school students will receive a school excuse for Monday May 1). Many teens throughout our area will be going on spring break vacations in upcoming weeks. Pray about a young person in your life who you can assist with going on a special kind of "spring break" in late April where he or she can get away from everyday concerns in their life, and truly focus on their relationship with Christ. Sponsor a special teen in your church, a child, a grandchild, a niece, or a nephew. Turn in the application even in the next week or two! There is a $20 discount (so the cost is just $65) if the application is turned in by Friday, April 7. That's six weeks from now. The final deadline for the flights is Friday, April 21. 4 Let s Get Sponsoring!! O.K. now, let s take a big deep breath, relax and think about your journey on your Emmaus Walk. Remember the emotions, the laughing, the crying and yes, your complete exhaustion when you returned home on Sunday night! Now, remember the joy you received when you read each heart felt Love Letter or note you received from family, friends, and some people you didn t even know. What you experienced was God s Agape Love throughout your 72 hour journey and it has continued on as we journey together in God s Love as a community. Well, it is time for you to share that Agape Love NOW!!!! TIME IS RUNNING OUT. The Walks and Flights are just around the corner and we need Pilgrims and Butterflies; without Sponsors, there will be no Walks or Flights. So let s get revved up and get that person who God has laid on your heart registered THIS WEEK for the Walk. Don t put this off we need to do this right away. The Men s Walk is a GO and the Women s cutoff date is March 9 th and right now there are 6 Pilgrims...There is work to be done THIS WEEK!! Here s what you need to do: Get the application filled out and send it to Cindy Massey who is the Community Registrar. Mail it to Cindy at the following address: 3512 Arrowwood Dr. Columbus, IN Or Scan and to cindyiscooking@yahoo.com. Follow that up by sending it to her via snail-mail. Don t forget to send the deposit with the Application or the total amount - $ Let s send a positive message to the Men and Women s Teams who have had training this past weekend!!
