2 River University And they received the word with all readiness and searched the scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Acts 17:11 This is how the people of Berea are described as they responded to the Apostle Paul s ministry. This response serves as a model for all disciples of Christ. As disciples, we should desire to grow in truth, and be shaped in the ways of God. In fact, as Christians, we have an obligation to study. 2 Timothy 2:15 says, Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed; and who correctly handles the Word of truth. It is crucial that we obey this directive, for our Lord warned that false teachers would come and lead many astray. Since our salvation and life in God are based on our holding onto truth, we must, as Christians, commit ourselves to the task of knowing our Lord, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. My prayer is that we are a church who genuinely fulfills our Lord s command to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves. River University, our Discipleship Ministry, is designed to equip you in fulfilling these goals. I want to personally encourage you to get connected to one of our classes. This class is a prerequisite in becoming a member at ROLWC. Class: Connection 201 Growing Your Faith What: This class provides tools for discipleship. It will cover practical topics including how to read and understand the Bible and how to pray effectively. Class: Connection 301 Your Ministry Gift What: Every person has a unique purpose in life. This class will explore your S.H.A.P.E. for ministry Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Ability, Personality and Experiences. Having identified your gifts and potential, you will be ready to be deployed into the service of the Lord. Class: Connection 401 Becoming a Team Leader What: Leadership takes many forms in ROLWC. There is a place of leadership designed for your S.H.A.P.E. This class will help you learn how to be a biblical leader. 101, 201, and 301 are prerequisites. After a review, this requirement may be waived for members transferring their church membership from another church. Note: All classes will be held in the Worship Center.

5 Sunday AM Classes 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Class: Selah Teacher: Pamela Coopwood Room 206 What: Biblical women are not almost like us; they are like us. Theirs and ours are the stories of callings and passions, joy and heartaches, pressures and pains, love and loss. Like us, they find renewed strength, love and acceptance, redemption, hope, and action in a loving God. Come Selah, step aside and pause, be affirmed in what you re already doing, feel called to do next, or just discover your purpose. This study explores the lives of biblical women and the defining steps they took that made a great difference in their world. All women are invited. Discover how to live with greater joy and a sense of anticipation. It s never too late to make your life count! Class: Christian Worldview Teacher: Bob Davis Room 205 What: Everything that is done in society today is influenced by a specific worldview. This class will teach the different types of worldviews influencing our culture and will show you how to effectively make your witness for Christ relevant to people with opposing worldviews. Class: Escuela Dominical Teacher: Pastor Carlos Guevara Room 202 What: Using the Way of The Master materials, the basic course will be instructed in Spanish. This is the forum for the Hispanic members of our congregation to study God s Word in Spanish. 6 Oct.-Dec. 6 Sunday AM Classes 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Class: Journey to the Promises Teachers: Terry Evans, Becky Vice, Aaron Shoars Where: Worship Center - Room 204 What: The journey through the New Testament begins in Matthew with an in-depth study of the message and ministry of Jesus. Discussions share insights from the Holy Scriptures and challenge us to live the life that is pleasing to God. As we begin the journey with Matthew, we will meet many distinguished persons including special appearances from God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Join us as our steps are guided for citizenship in Heaven. Class: Jr. High Girls (Grades 6 to 8) Teacher: Missie Dudley Room 208 What: This class will challenge girls to be accountable to God and to one another. It will stress the importance of pursuing an authentic relationship with God through daily Bible study, scripture, memorization and prayer as they understand and follow God s perfect plan for their friendships, faith, family relationships, and future. Class: Sr. High Girls (Grades 9 to 12) Teacher: Nidia Meza 5 Stone Café What: This class will challenge girls to be accountable to God and to one another. It will stress the importance of pursuing an authentic relationship with God through daily Bible study, scripture, memorization and prayer as they understand and follow God s perfect plan for their friendships, faith, family relationships, and future. Class: Jr. High Boys (Grades 6 to 8) Teacher: Nick Bohn Room 203 What: Our middle school boys class is designed to focus on discipling our young men. Weekly, we will focus on God s Word and how we can be changed by the renewing of our minds. Come join us as we dive into life God s way!

Weekly, we will focus on God s Word and how we can be changed by the renewing of our minds. Come join us as we dive into life God s way! Class: Young Adults (ages 18 to 30 years) Teachers: Jason & Sue Hopwood Counseling Room What: Attention all young adults! Come study God s Word and learn how to be relevant in our families, workplace and community. We will discuss the seven spiritual disciplines that will produce growth and vitality while also guiding you to become the person God wants you to be. Class: Deaf Sunday School The Epistles of Paul s Life, Journey of Missions & Hardships Teacher: Pastor Mike Byrd Where: Children/Youth Center - Pastor Dale s Office What: A three month study will include group interaction with discussion and erudition regarding the life of Paul in conjunction with The Purpose Driven Life written by Rick Warren. Third Sundays Only After 2nd Service Class: Living Beyond Yourself Teachers: Barbara Cleveland Where: Room 204 to 205 What: You can know the freedom of a life filled with the fruit of the Spirit. In Living Beyond Yourself, noted Bible teacher and author Beth Moore leads an in-depth study of the fruit of the Spirit-living proof that the Spirit of God dwells in us. Through her passionate writing and teaching, Beth provides biblical instruction from the Book of Galatians, emphasizing Galatians 5: Oct.-Dec. 7

Class: Young Marrieds - Two by Two Teachers: Pastor Dale Donadio Where: Worship Center- Sanctuary What: Galatians, a study that challenges to stand for our faith in Christ and not be distracted from the word of God. We are called to obedience, but it is easy to be influenced by the others and by the world. Together we will edxplore what Paul writes to the church of Galatia and grow in understanding of God s desire for His children to walk in faith. Class: Unglued Teachers: Pastor Angela Donadio Where: The Green Room What: Discover You - UNGLUED Lysa TerKeurst admits that she, like most women, has experiences where others bump into her happy and she comes emotionally unglued. We stuff, we explode, or react somewhere in between. Is it really possible to make emotions work for us instead of against us? Filled with personal examples and Biblical teaching, Unglued will equip you to: Know with confidence how to resolve conflict in your important relationships. Find peace in your most difficult relationships as you learn to be honest but kind when offended. Identify what type of reactor you are and how to significantly improve your communication. 10 Oct.-Dec. 10 Wednesday PM Classes 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Class: Getting Healthy Teachers: Ken Baillargeon Where: Worship Center Room 205 What: Fantasy Island is a four part series by Pastor Kenny Luck. Pastor Kenny teaches that fantasy ranges from the innocent to the indecent. From Disney dreams to dark diversions. Most importantly, what does fantasy reveal about a man s relationship to reality. The Sex Series also is a four part series by Pastor Luck. Man is a sexual being but simply acting sexual does not make you a man. What does this mean for my journey as a single man or married man for both young and old. This is where you will hear God s mind on your sexual life straight from His word. Class: Understanding End time Prophecy - Daniel and Revelation Teacher: Marjorie Staes Where: Worship Center Room 208 What: Daniel and Revelation present an electrifying picture of the Lord Jesus Christ, filled with many awe-inspiring, symbolic pictures. He is the Lamb of God fulfilling the prophecies of the Old Testament and triumphing in the consummation of God s great plan of salvation. You will discover the Feasts of the Lord, the Jubilee years, the vision of Revelation 12, and much more. As prophecies are attached to the correct understanding of Daniel s timeline, mysteries that have been hidden right out in plain sight for thousands of years start revealing themselves with clarity and grace - all the prophetic pieces just into place on their own. This study will enhance the lives of both men and women. Come; join us, as we unravel the great truths contained in two of the most interesting and challenging books of the Bible. Class: Marriage Enrichment Teacher: Herb & Anita McDermott Where: Worship Center 5-Stone Cafe What: An eight part series, The God I Never Knew by Robert Morris will offered this summer to offer understanding of the Holy Spirit and allowing Him develop us to be stronger husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, as well as church leaders. We need to intimately know the Holy Spirit to enjoy living in the Kingdom of God here on earth. Only He can give us the power to live a supernatural life and enable us to speak the language of heaven now.

11 Wednesday PM Classes 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Class: Spiritual Check Up Teacher: Pastor Jacob Al-Hassan and Joe Cannon Where: Worship Center - Room 206 What: How long has it been since you ve had a checkup to assess your spiritual health? Not long ago, a seasoned marathoner had just crossed the finish line with an impressive time when he suffered a heat attack and died. From the outside, he looked to be the picture of health, but a fatal condition was hiding on the inside. The same is true with our spiritual lives. As creatures of habit, we tend to go through life on autopilot. We often miss clues that indicate that our spirit is not enjoying the good health that God created it for. Come and let s examine the fruit of the spirit, the yardstick of our spiritual health. Class: The Book of John Teacher: Allan Tarrh Where: Worship Center Room 207 What: Jesus has two natures, both valid. Luke presents Jesus in humanity as the Son of Man. John shows Him in His duty as the Son of God. John reveals Jesus as the Eternal Word; the God Creator; as God in the Flesh (incarnated); the True Light; the Lamb of God; the Bread of Life; the Way; the Truth; the Life; the Good Shepherd; the True Vine. 12 Oct.-Dec. 12 Thursday PM Class 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Class: American Sign Language 1 Teacher: Michael Byrd Room 202 What: This course introduces the basics of American Sign Language I (ASL I) and is designed for students who have little or no previous knowledge of ASL. Readiness for learning will be approached via visual-gestural communication techniques, visual discrimination, and visual memory exercises. ASL questions, commands, and other simple sentence structures are introduced to develop rudimentary conversational skills in ASL. Information about the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture will be introduced.
