The previous year has been good, we have seen an increase in the number of recipients. However the postal mailing list has gone down, which does not mean that we have reduced readership, but on the contrary proves that many of our readers have shifted to electronic media. This in turn also reduces the postal expenses. At that start of this year we have been more than happy to have been able to host thirty four international friends and well-wishers from all over the world, through our three eventful days of Inter Project Cultural Meet, Tribal Award E ditorial everywhere with praise and worship followed by the sharing of the Word of God and ending with individual prayers by the prayer warriors for each and every person attending the festival. Sanjay Hansda A Small Story of Change Being desolate at an old age is something not very alien to us. We hear and experience it all around us. Similar is the story of 75 year old Kanai Dule and his 68 year old wife Abala Dule. The couple have three daughters and one son. With great difficulty and a hard and toiling livelihood of landless marginalised seasonal farming up to the age of fifty, Kanai got all his children married. However the children after being settled in their personal lives, left both the parents on their own at their Dulepara village home in Sarenga. Their only remaining means of income is to collect Sal leaf and firewood from the forest and sell it at a market some six kilometers away, with an daily uncertain income of Rs. 25/- to 40/-. With this the old couple could hardly meet ends and had nearly lost all hope for survival. At this desolate and uncertain juncture of their lives came a beacon of hope from the It is otherwise the same monotonous life for the school goers and sometimes lonely for the veterans. In an initiative to pull-out off this lifestyle and give them a refreshing start this year the St. Michael's Church of the Diocese of Durgapur, CNI, took a unique step. While other churches have their church picnics, this women's fellowship and the Sunday school wings of the church took a step further and organised a special excursion (Grand Get-together) specially for the Grandfathers, Grandmothers, Grandsons and Granddaughters on Sunday, the 31st of January 2016 at Mohan Kumar Mangalam Park in Durgapur. All the members of the old age programme and the Sunday school actively participated in this first of its kind excursion. The St. Michael's Church of Durgapur is the only church that has a Monthly Old Age Programme run successfully by its Community Development Programme (CDP), Diocese of Durgapur, which works for the social development of the people of this region. Through CDP's 'Information Bank', which gathers information about various Government schemes, Kanai and his wife were identified and made aware of the Old Age Pension Scheme offered by the Government. The women's fellowship. It was a day when the grandparents and the grandchildren of the church took a step aside from their boring and repetitive lives and had a chance to live their lives where there were no limitations to enjoyment. The excursion started with an innovative bible study for all. Along with the amusements that the park had to offer to them and other games like bursting the balloon, blowing the whistle, musical pillow pass etc. that were organised. The most exhilarating activity was when the grandchildren (Sunday school children) were asked to find treasures of their grandfathers and grandmothers hidden in the small hillocks and in the jungle within the park. Every participants were gifted with chocolates, whistles, sweets and special gifts for the Sunday school children. Not to mention was the appetizing lunch that was served and enjoyed by one and all before departing with a contented heart. 5 knowledge of this simple information, followed by assisting them in getting the benefit from the scheme, changed the couples life for good. From October 2015 Kanai and Abala are getting a monthly joint pension of Rs. 800/- from the Government, which has brought back the smile on their faces and kindled hope in their hearts for a survival with dignity and less dependency. Nita Pyne Grand Get-together At St. Michael's Church, Durgapur It was the motivation of our respected minister, the Rev. Amiya Das, Mrs. Santa Toon Das, the President, Mrs. Priti Dukuria, the Secretary and other members of the WFCS that this one of a kind excursion occurred in this church for the first time. We pray to the Father almighty and his son Jesus Christ that through their guidance this kind and other unique kinds of programme are held more frequently. B. K.
