The wedding celebration and reception was held at CrossRoad Church in Jacksonville, FL. Daryl s family is from Colorado Springs, CO. His father and mother, Ron and Marge Van Tongeren, and many family members made the treck to Jacksonville to join the ceremony. Rehearsal was on Friday night and included a Rehearsal dinner at Sticky Fingers in Atlantic Beach. Both families joined together to speak blessings over the couple. The wedding was held at 2 PM on Saturday, but the events started the day before with decorating the sanctuary, picking up tuxes, and getting the bride ready. Both families were greatly assisted by Mrs. Cathy Dudley and Mrs. Linda Howard. The service started with the entry of the four bridesmaids (which included Beth & Ruth Showalter) and the four groomsmen, plus Tim Van WEDDING Tongeren, Daryl s brother and Best Man. The three-year-old flower girl, Sylvia Watkins, was next. She was followed by Cora Dudley, the Maid of Honor. Rev. Len Showalter escorted his daughter, Sara, to the alter while Rev. J.P. Mertens, Daryl s brother-inlaw, opened. Then Len conducted the charge and vows with Rev. Gee Sprague overseeing the sacraments. After the pronouncement, the newly wed couple entered the reception that had a beach theme. The joyful couple soon left for their honeymoon to the Bahamas. On Tuesday, while Len and Al continued to teach the clinicians, the rest of the American team and interpreters traveled to an orphanage where they shared the Gospel, played with the children, told

After a one night stay, they boarded a train for Izhevsk, a city of nearly one million, that is located near the Ural Mountains and that is known for its Kalashnikov weapons factory. People from the Church of God of Izhevsk met the team and assisted with the luggage. Soon all were settled into their hotel ANYA, PASTOR PETER, TANYA IN IZHEVSK rooms and ready for a tour of the town center with Pastor Peter (pictured center), his daughter (left), and Tanya Shlanova, an interpreter (right). Dinner was provided by Russian families in their homes. Sunday, Len preached and the team ministered to many of the people. Monday was the beginning for the Evangelism BETH & STEVE MINISTERING Explosion (EE) Clinic. There were 31 registered from 5 different churches. Seven trainers and Sveta Tochkova, clinic administrator, came from Nizhny Novgorod to assist. Tamara, Julia, and five other interpreters joined the effort, too. The first day consisted of registration, organization, and lectures. It concluded with a welcoming banquet for all the clinicians, and included several other area pastors. Tuesday was filled with more lectures, but concluded with visitation, known as on-the-job-training (OJT). The 14 teams conducted witnessing in and around the large open area near the hotel and town center resulting in 58 receiving Jesus as their Lord & Savior. On Tuesday, while Len and Al continued to teach the clinicians, the rest of the American team and interpreters traveled to an orphanage where they shared the Gospel, played with the children, told stories about America and their love for God, and made balloon animals. Many of these children had learning disabilities, but in the end, 21 including several supervisors prayed a prayer of repentance. The next day, Wednesday, the team traveled one and a half hours over rough Russian roads to an undercover Christian-run summer camp that housed orphans from the same orphanage the team shared at on Tuesday. This was an outdoor facility, where the group ministered in street games, balloon animals, and witnessing, this resulted in 20 TIM MINISTERING CLARE & SUMMER CAMP KIDS JESSICA, RUTH, & KIM W/ ORPHANS more children giving their lives to God. These visits to orphanages and summer camps in Izhevsk gave the team both a chance to share and grow in their faith. There was a special time of foot-washing by Rev. Len Showalter & Al Kaidor for all present. Certification Friday arrived with most clinicians prepared for the exams.

Friday evening the team with interpreters and the Nizhny trainers boarded a private bus for the 12 hours ride to Nizhny Novgorod.

On Saturday morning, Pastor Sasha and many of the men from the Light of Christ Church were at the hotel ready to help with the luggage.

Sunday s ministry in the church was wonderful with about 30 people getting saved and many prayed for various needy situations. During the service several amazing testimonies came forth.

She told the entire church of a miraculous report that recently came from the doctors, as we had prayed for her last year and now she has perfect blood levels.

She was prayed for and given a word of knowledge by Pastor Len that the child would be born healthy.

Though on Thursday the team handed gifts out to the clinicians: utility tools for the men, cosmetics, prayer cloths, dresses for THE IZHEVSK CLINICIANS some of the ladies, and LMI tee-shirts for all. There was a special time of foot-washing by Rev. Len Showalter & Al Kaidor for all present. Certification Friday arrived with most clinicians prepared for the exams. 28 passed the oral & written tests and received their certificates & pins with much celebration. Victor Gandzy from Heart to Heart (EE ministry of Russia) joined in the award ceremony. Friday evening the team with interpreters and the Nizhny trainers boarded a private bus for the 12 hours ride to Nizhny Novgorod. The countryside was beautiful, but the bus ride was hard due to poor road conditions. Because restroom facilities on the ROADSIDE RESTROOM BREAK bus were lacking, several green stops were required. On Saturday morning, Pastor Sasha and many of the men from the Light of Christ Church were at the hotel ready to help with the luggage. Rest was needed by all, but most found a little time for touring and a trip to McDonald s. Sunday s ministry in the church was wonderful with about 30 people getting saved and many prayed for various needy situations. During the service several amazing testimonies came forth. The first was from a woman that was from the Chernobyl area and had a very bad blood condition due to exposure to radiation. She told the entire church of a miraculous report that recently came from the doctors, as we had prayed for her last year and now she has perfect blood levels. The second miracle testimony was from a mother that was told three years ago by the doctors to have an abortion of her expected little girl. She was prayed for and given a word of knowledge by Pastor Len that the child would be born healthy. The mother, her grandmother, her son, and the healthy LEN, CHERNOBYL VICTIM, & LUCY FAMILY WITH GRANDDAUGHTER three-year-old daughter came forward to give God the praise for their family being a miracle family! The team visited an unwed mother s home near the church immediately after the service and handed out gifts for the young mothers and their children. After visiting a local school s summer camp on Monday, the team boarded a night train to Moscow. Tuesday required a little DYKFS TRACKS WERE HANDED OUT more hotel rest, but soon the team was up and walking around Red Square. Wednesday required packing, but the team was able to find time to attend the Moscow circus. Thursday morning the team boarded the plane for the return flight home. Physically tired, but spiritually fulfilled, all arrived safely in Jacksonville. RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL

Philippines Rev. Len Showalter traveled with the Russian team to New York from Moscow, then continued on to Montreal, Hong Kong, and finally to Manila.

On Sunday, July 4th, Len attended the three services at CCBC where Tagalog and English are spoken, and that evening he led the service.

Savior! The second OJT was on Friday. Teams were changed and so was the area of contacts. Instead of a shopping mall Len s team went to the International Center of the University of the Philippines.

The third OJT occurred on Saturday after the oral and written exams were given and all the students were certified.

4 Philippines Rev. Len Showalter traveled with the Russian team to New York from Moscow, then continued on to Montreal, Hong Kong, and finally to Manila. He was picked up in the airport by Pastor Rey from Capital QUEZON CITY EEE CLINICIANS City Baptist Church (CCBC) and driven to Quezon City. On Sunday, July 4th, Len attended the three services at CCBC where Tagalog and English are spoken, and that evening he led the service. At CCBC Len was reconnected with two men: Pastor Nono, who he worked with hosting clinics in 1997 CCBC WELCOME SIGN and 1999 in Davao; and Pastor Rene, who he worked with hosting a clinic in Ulaan Bataar, Mongolia in Monday brought the start of the Ethnic EE Clinic. LEN & PASTOR RENE S FAMILY That evening there was a banquet held for the clinicians and prayer partners. Bishop Ef Tendero, National Director of Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches and current Board Chairman of EE Philippines, was the guest speaker. He encouraged all to share their faith and told how he recently was able to share the gospel with Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the newly elected President of the Philippines, who accepted Christ as her Savior! The second OJT was on Friday. Teams were changed and so was the area of contacts. Instead of a shopping mall Len s team went to the International Center of the University of the Philippines. The Gospel was presented in both formats: ethnic and non-ethnic, where there were 14 and 15 professions respectfully out of a total of 35 contacts. The third OJT occurred on Saturday after the oral and written exams were given and all the students were certified. The graduation ceremony was held during the regular Sunday service and there was much celebration. Rev. Bernard Hinson, Director of EE for the Philippines, was present and handed the certificates to the graduates. Rev. Len Showalter left immediately after the CCBC service and boarded a plane for Davao, city of over a million about 500 miles south of Manila. There he was greeted by Pastor Nick Sicat, and driven about 30 miles south to La Roca Church in Calinan. The church had grown from 30 churches in 1997 to 60 in 1999 and now has over 90 churches! NONO, LEN, & BERNARD LA ROCA CHURCH IN CALINAN EVANGELISTIC LA ROCA Len preached each night and taught the La Roca pastors during the day. The power of God was very evident with many getting saved and hundreds touched by the Holy Spirit. By Wednesday, Len was ready to head home. He left Davao headed for Hong Kong, then Los Angeles, Atlanta, and then Jacksonville, FL. His four-week trip logged about 40,000 miles and many souls into the Kingdom of God! 5 Kairos #56 April 2004 brought the 56th Kairos event at the Union Correctional Institution in Lake Butler, FL. The ministry effort started with preparation many weeks in advance, but actually goes on location on a Thursday and continues through Sunday. The material taught to the inmates is evangelical in nature and approved by the prison Chaplain. The prisoners do not know what to expect on the weekend. Some have heard that there are cookies and good food available, but none are expecting to receive an abundance of unconditional love as given by the ministry team. The days are long, arrival at 6:15 a.m. and departure at 8:30 p.m., and they are hard with the team eating and ministering on location. But no one on the team complains as they know that they are the Lord s instrument in bringing salvation to the prisoners. There is an extensive program for continuing discipleship that includes weekly meetings between prisoners. There are also monthly meetings with many of the ministry team coming back to encourage the prisoners in their new walk with the Lord. As you can tell by this newsletter, we've had a very busy summer between the wedding and the mission trip to Russia and the Philippines. It is hard to imagine that school has started and the busy activities and routines begin again as we proceed towards Sara is a senior at Colorado Christian University, Daryl now working on his Masters in Colorado Springs, Beth a junior at Asbury College, and Ruth a senior at Providence High School. A sincere apology is in order for those of you that we have not been able to be with on a more personal level. The days seem to "fly" by and we hope to very soon be able to show you pictures of all the events of the summer and share with you about some special times. We are still trying to get our hearts moved back to Florida from being in Russia. It is always an adjustment leaving our Russian friends, but knowing that we will soon be working on plans for next year's clinic and visits makes the transition easier. One of our goals this year is to learn more Russian! Thank you for being such a part of our family and this ministry.
