1 August 2015 Today, Yesterday, and Tomorrow News for our Friends and Family Pastors Page The church VISITOR is published monthly by Presbyterian Church Ave. - Sioux City, IA. Grace to you and peace in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I hope the summer has progressed in a good way for you all. It has been great, the last few weeks, to see more of you gathering for worship; we have missed some of you in your travels and summer activities. We are the church best when we are all here, or wherever we are called to be, together. Please know that when you are not here, you are missed. Just a couple of quick updates in regards to the life of the church: the pastor sharing process has begun with the brothers and sisters at 3rd PC, and so far it has gone well. We have all been able to carry on our worship experiences and still meet all of the time factors involved; the meetings are being attended as needed, pastoral care is happening (I hope we are not missing anyone who has a need in this regard) and everyone seems to be adjusting to the new way of doing things. I hope and pray that we continue to work on this, as we move back toward the end of summer and busyness creeps back in. We are actively working on possibilities for Christian Education with children, youth, and adults, and the choir is adjusting the rehearsal schedule to accommodate schedules and activities. If you have ideas or comments on Christian Education times and opportunities, please feel free to share them with myself or Peggy Reid, Marilyn Blatchford, or Mary Daniels, who are on the CE Committee. It is important that we teach the old, old story continually, even in times of transition. Conversations continue between the sessions and the committees of MPC and 3rd PC in regards to future and possible collaborations and beyond. They have been informative, relationship-building conversations, very positive conversations, but we all know that transition is not easy, change is not easy, and uncertainty often leads to anxiety and panic. I want to assure us that any steps proposed in regards to future between the congregations and our ministries will be well-shared with you all and your input will be readily sought. At the same time, we must be actively listening for the word God is speaking to us all in regards to future, and part of that active listening is to begin meeting and discussing and weighing options and looking at possibilities. There are some very exciting possibilities for ministry in this area, possibilities that may well include us at MPC; our calling is to an openness to God using us as God chooses to do so. We will keep praying and discussing and listening. Con t on pg 2 Presbyterian Church Is on a pilgrimage to resurrect and expand our church community and to share the love and grace of Jesus Christ. We worship as an authentic expression of our gratitude to God for grace unimaginable and love unconditional. We strive to be God s heart, hands and voice to all ages as we grow in faith and engage in mission locally, nationally, and globally. The deadline for newsletter submission is the 3rd Wednesday of the month prior to publication. 2 I hope you all have had the opportunity to renew and recharge over these summer months. It is hard to believe that August is here and school will be starting again soon, and we will again have choir practices and Sunday school activities, and Bible Study activities and all those things that take a break for summer. We all need a moment, here and there, to catch up on rest and renewal. But, that rest and renewal is for a purpose: to prepare us for what lies ahead. The mission of the church continues, even as we get older and we see less resource. We are equipped to be on God's mission because God calls us to be a part of it; Jesus calls us to be a part of it; the Holy Spirit empowers us to be a part of it. I hope you are looking forward to the renewal of our regular activities, even if they may be on different days and might take on a different shape. I know that I am. Peace. Dave WORSHIP IN AUGUST FROM THE CLERK OF SESSION Finance bank balance end of July 2015 $30, Bldg/Grounds The roof is in good shape. We had a joint session meeting with 3rd Presbyterian. Good feelings with that meeting. They are very agreeable. Respectfully submitted, Connie Sponder, Clerk 2-2 Sam 11:26-12:13a; Psalm 51:1-12; Eph 4:1-16; John 6: Sam 18:5-9, 15, 31-33; Psalm 130; Eph 4:25-5:2; John 6:35, Kings 2:10-12; 3:3-14; Psalm 111; Eph 5:15-20; John 6: Kings 8(1,6,10-11) 22-30, 41-43; Psalm 84; Eph 6:10-20; John 6: Song of Sol 2:8-13; Psalm 45:1-2, 6-9; James 1:17-27; Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, August nd: We continue in John's 6th chapter, John 6:24-35; God provides the feeding neededsometimes in a physical sense, always in a soulful sense. We will gather around the table of the Lord, and we will have special music from the 4 Tenors. 9th: We will gather for worship at Westminster To Celebrate VBS, along with the congregations from Westminster PC and from 3rd PC. 16th: We move back to John's gospel this week, John 6:51-58; Jesus is the living embodiment of wisdom, the living bread, who brings life to the world. 23rd: We finish our brief foray into John 6, John 6:59-69; following God's ways can be a difficult thing, even for people of faith, because the world we live in is filled with contradictions to these ways. Yet, Jesus gives us the way to do so. 30th: This week we move back into the gospel of Mark, Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23; God has one way for us to be, the world and people tell us of another. Which one are we to follow, the traditions of our God or the traditions of the people? Just a reminder to everyone, that our worship time will remain at 9:30 am following Labor Day, due to the pastor sharing with 3rd PC. Please direct ideas, articles and questions to Teri McCallum , mpcsciasec@msn.com
