1 The Bellringer February 2016 Greetings Clarion/Zion Family, Time moves so quickly. It seems like we just celebrated Christmas and Lent is nearly here. It seems as if we are ready to crucify baby Jesus. The image of killing a baby is revolting. Any image involving death should be revolting. Death is what we deserve for our sin. That is why Jesus came to this earth, to be crucified, to die in our place for our sins. That is why we call it Good News. We have been saved from eternal death through the death of Jesus. In order to celebrate what a great gift we have in forgiveness we use the season of Lent to ponder the depth of our sin. Come join us on Ash Wednesday, Feb 10, 2016 to kneel and receive ashes on the forehead to remind ourselves that we have come from dust and to dust we shall return. Join us at 5:30 for soup supper prior to the 7:00 service. We continue to worship at 7:00 each Wednesday using the Holden Service and ponder some scripture from Luke which is our Gospel for this year. We will not have soup suppers this year, except for Ash Wednesday. Maundy Thursday will be at the Baptist Church. Good Friday will be at the Methodist Church. Come back to Clarion for Easter Sunrise at 6:30am and stay for Easter Breakfast. Have a blessed Lent as we journey to the cross.. and the empty tomb. 3 Trinity Healthcare of Mendota Located inside Nightengale s Thrift Shop 708 Jefferson St Downtown Mendota Clinic Phone # Store Phone# Volunteers are need at Nightengale s Thrift Shop to help sort donated merchandise, stock the shelves or help in a number of other ways. Stop by during store hours and see how you can make a difference in the community. If you use THM for your health care needs we ask that you donate you time helping at the thrift shop, or make a financial donation. Trinity Healthcare of Mendota is a clinic for those who do not have Medicare, Medicaid, VA Care, or private insurance. Trinity Health Care is staffed entirely by volunteer doctors, nurse practitioners, and nurses. Evaluation and treatment s available for non emergency issues such as urinary track infections, bronchitis, or sore throats on a walk in basis. Doctor visits are by appointment only. People who have Medicare, Medicaid, VA Care, or private insurance, who have difficulty affording the co-pays for medications are eligible to receive samples of prescribed medications. If available. Medical equipment, such as walkers, crutches, catheters, etc. are also available to those in need. The clinic is housed and supported by Nightengale s Thrift Shop, a 501-C non-profit, that is staffed by volunteers. Nightengales accepts donations of clothing, jewelry, household furnishings, furniture, and medical supplies. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE DONATIONS OUTSIDE THE STORE, ITEMS NEED TO BE BROUGHT INSIDE DUR- ING STORE HOURS Store Hours: Monday 1-3 PM and 6-8 PM Wednesday-Friday 12-4 PM Saturday 10 AM - 4 PM All offering envelopes marked "Ash Wednesday" or "Lent" and undesignated cash or checks for Lenten services will be evenly divided between the Mendota Area Christian Food Pantry and Ill. Valley P.A.D.S. Marjorie Ultch family wishes to thank Pastor Weeks for his many visits, and friends and church family for the sympathy, food and memorials, as well as memories of Marjorie. Ultch family Mission Aviation Fellowship maf.org Brad & Susan Rhoads continue to prepare for Spanish language classes in May. However, they still need to raise an extra $1,200 a month for that to occur. They feel they are being called to move from Idaho to Costa Rica as they grow the Kingdom through their work at MAF. MAF celebrates 60 years of serving in Brazil. Ecuador they recently purchased a new Quest Kodiak airplane which can carry 9 people and supplies up to a total of 3,000 lbs. It has a turbine engine which burns jet fuel which is cheaper and easier to find than aviation gas used in piston powered aircraft. This plane is much larger than the one Nate Saint fly when he was martyred in That plane was a 2 passenger fabric covered Piper.
