4 all about baptism What do I need to do to be baptized? Every Christ-follower can be baptized. Christ-followers believe God made us and loves us. He has an awesome plan for us. We all run from God and choose our own plan for life. This is called sin and the penalty is death. Jesus offers us forgiveness by taking our place when He died on the cross and rose again. Jesus is the only way to be close to God. We can choose to accept God s free gift, and have a new, eternal, and full life with Him.

We ll read your spiritual story so people can hear what God did in your life. When you come out of the water, people will probably clap and cheer. Baptism is an exciting moment! What should I wear on my baptism day? Dress to get wet. Boys wear a t-shirt and swim shorts. Girls wear a t-shirt and shorts with a swimsuit underneath. Don t forget to bring a towel!

[frequently asked questions about baptism] what s baptism all about? Baptism illustrates Christ s death and resurrection and your decision to model your life after his life. Going down in the water symbolizes the death of your old life without Christ; coming up symbolizes your new life with Christ at the center. does baptism make my child a Christ-follower? Nope. Responding to Christ s offer of forgiveness and new life is what makes them a Christ-follower. Baptism is an important next step and an outward symbol of the commitment they ve already made to follow Christ. is my child ready to be baptized? Can your child talk about their faith in Jesus? Can they tell you what baptism symbolizes? If they can, then they re ready to be baptized. If not, they may need some time to keep growing on their spiritual journey. how old does my child have to be to be baptized? We encourage young kids to wait to be baptized until they understand the Christ-following life & the significance of baptism. In general, the older you are as a child, the more meaningful baptism will be.

13 will my child be baptized without my consent? No. We do not baptize kids at Cedar Hills without a parent s consent. We want to respect the rights of parents and we know that parents know their kids best. Parents may be able to prompt a child to go ahead and experience the joy and blessing of baptism right now, or to wait until they re ready. Please don t hesitate to reach out to the kids pastor with any questions. can my child have other people with them when they get baptized? Absolutely! No one comes to faith in Christ in a vacuum. Your child can start thinking about those who have played a significant part in their spiritual journey (family, friends, Kids Team members). Any (or all) of those people can join them up front for their baptism. when do baptisms happen? We celebrate baptisms several times a year. We have baptisms in a portable hot-tub-sized pool in the main auditorium during weekend gatherings. Each summer, we have a baptism day at City Beach. what will my child have to say on their baptism day? Not a thing! Bring their spiritual story with you (or it in advance). Depending on time, the person baptizing them may share a highlight or two from their spiritual story. what should my child wear on their baptism day? Dark colors are best.
