1 August 26, 2018 GRADE BUMP TODAY: During the 10:45am service TODAY, our TruKids will be blessed and will walk over a bridge to symbolize their transition to the next grade. Our incoming 6th-graders will receive a Bible as they transition into Veritas. Please be praying for all GCC kids as they navigate a new school year and these changes. FAREWELL FOR THE COPELANDS: Luke Copeland's last day with us will be TODAY. Luke has accepted a new position as Senior Pastor of Lenoir Advent Christian Church, Lenoir, North Carolina. Please come and say goodbye to Luke and Lindsey over a piece of cake in the Chapel after both services. CONGREGATIONAL MEETING: The August Congregational Meeting will be held TODAY at 4pm in Fellowship Hall. The meeting will focus on the Annual Report for the fiscal year. The Annual Report is now available at the information booth and at the GCC website. BETH MOORE EVENT: Online registration for the Saturday October 6th Beth Moore event is now open! The day will run from 8:30am - 3pm and the cost is $30, which includes study materials and lunch. This event is open to all women everywhere. Sign up now at

2 VENUE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Our after-school youth program, the Venue, runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:30-5:30pm each week when school is in session. Venue will start again Wednesday September 5. We need volunteers to help each afternoon and we also need snacks for the kids. If you can help please contact HELP NEEDED: We need help for staining of the cedar hand rails around the building on Saturday, September 8 at 9AM. LCBS restarts on Monday, September 10. There is more information available in the insert. DISCIPLE: Jesus said "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples." The Disciple Bible Study is designed to help you put yourself under the power of God's Word and experience the transformation that Jesus promises to those who would follow him as disciples. Classes for this in-depth 34-week study of Scripture start on Wednesday, September 12 at 7pm. The course includes videoteaching, a study guide and a Wednesday night small group class. Out of class reading will require a few additional hours each week. There is a $50 fee for class materials. MEN S BEAST FEAST: Save the date Sunday, September 2 from 3:30pm at pastor Chris s house for the annual Beast Feast. Meat grilling, hatchet throwing, baggos and more! 3 PHASES MINI-RETREAT: We will be holding a mini-retreat on Saturday, September 29 from GCC. The event will feature the Phases project: a synthesis of personal experience, academic research, and hours of focus groups with leaders designed to provide parents with exactly what they need to make the most of each phase in their kid s life. More information and signups at our website or in the Narthex TO- DAY. WOMEN S WEDNESDAY LIFEGROUP: Worfels on Wednesday Lifegroup is restarting on Wednesday, August 29 from 7-9pm. We meet from 9:30am- 11am every Tuesday in the Community Room. All women welcome. NEW SUNDAY AM ADULT BIBLE STUDY: Our new study on the Book of Genesis starts Sunday, September 9. Join us on Sundays at 8am or 9:15am (same class repeated) in the Community Room. More information available online at MOMS GROUPS: We have 2 Moms groups that will restart in September. 4 Featured Opportunity Sunday AM Bible Study The Book of Genesis introduces us to the Creator God and establishes his relationship to mankind as created in His image and likeness. Several key themes of Scripture are initiated in the Book of Genesis: God is one; the goodness of creation and the world; God's undying love for mankind despite man's sin and disobedience; God as a just and merciful king; God is active in history by making covenants with His people; the proper response of obedience to God's Word; and the gift of Hope through prophecy of the coming Messiah. Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 and 9:15 am (same material repeated) in the Community Room for an in-depth study of the Book of Genesis as we study these themes and much more. There is no homework or advance preparation needed for this class and all are welcome whenever they can make it. 5 Featured Opportunity Lake County Bible Study LCBS meets weekly during the school year on Monday evenings from 7:00 8:30 pm right here at Gurnee Community Church (in the Chapel). This group takes a deep dive into Scripture through daily readings, guiding questions, small group discussion, and real-world application of God s truth into our everyday lives. The current course of study will be a 30-week review of the Book of Genesis and begins on September 10, Genesis explores the nature of God and humanity s relationship with our creator. It then turns its attention to the ancestral history of God s chosen people. Why did God choose a people for himself and what purposes existed in his choosing?
