3 Chapter 18 Word of God But be ye DOERS of the WORD, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves (James 1:22) With the Israelites gathered at the base of Mount Sinai, 1334 BC, God thunderously spoke WITH AN AUDIBLE VOICE the 10 Love Commandments to them. Moses would later write: And ye came near and stood under the mountain And the LORD SPAKE unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye HEARD the VOICE of the WORDS, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice (Deuteronomy 4:11, 12). Friend, the 10 Love Commandments ARE the Word(s) of God! They are the ONLY word(s) God spoke to the Israelites DIRECTLY: These WORDS the LORD SPAKE unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone (Deuteronomy 5:22). Yes, unquestionably, the Word of God to mankind is DO the 10 Love Commandments. But God further cemented His Word to mankind by writing the 10 Love Commandments on stone tables. How much more proof could/can He give that they are His words and His will. And by now you know they are simply the deeds and thoughts that define (explain) 347

4 how we LOVE God and our neighbor as ourselves, which means they are God s character for He is Love! Furthermore, you also know this Mount Sinai scene was just one act in God s massive story (parable) that was intended as a MESSAGE to all mankind to explain everything involved in their journey back to Him. Thus, I have already explained when God spoke the 10 Love Commandments to the Israelites in 1334 BC THEY were NOT something NEW to mankind!!! For God had placed His Word into the hearts of all mankind from the moment Adam & Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. Therefore, everyone who has ever lived has known the Word of God, for obedience or disobedience to the 10 Love Commandments is the difference between good & evil, respectively! Now in the Bible, God refers to Jesus as the Word. John wrote: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us full of grace and truth (John 1:1, 14). Do you understand this? The Spirit of Love (God) was made flesh in the person of Jesus Christ! See, the real Jesus was/is the spirit that was inside his physical body just like the real you is the spirit inside you and THAT spirit in him was EXACTLY the Spirit of God for God had impregnated Mary with His seed (the Holy Spirit). In other words, Christ was simply the embodiment of the Spirit of Love. What does that mean? It means he was a walking, talking, doing embodiment of the 10 LOVE Commandments!!! He was perfectly sinless, meaning he loved at ALL times. It was the first time mankind had ever scene anything like this a man who loved purely and perfectly at all times! Wow. Thus, Jesus Christ IS, WAS, & HAS ALWAYS BEEN the Word of God (love). Do you see? John the revelator, witnessing a vision of Jesus 2 nd Coming, wrote: And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he (Jesus) that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The WORD of GOD (Revelation 19:11-13). Earlier, John had wrote: For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the WORD, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are ONE (I John 5:7). Friend, the REAL Jesus is the spirit of Love, which is the Word of God. 348

5 Now you should easily understand why Jesus said, IF ye love me, keep my (10 Love) commandments (John 14:15). Do you see? Since Jesus was/is the Word of God the 10 Love Commandments personified then it is impossible to truthfully say you know, love, or worship the REAL Jesus while disobeying the 10 Love Commandments. That would make you a liar!!! Because to know Jesus is to know the Word of God (love)! Therefore, John accurately wrote: He that saith, I know him, and keepeth NOT his (10 Love) commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him (I John 2:4). It is really quite simple! John said: I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him (Christ) that is from the BEGINNING. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the WORD of GOD abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one (I John 2:14). Again here, the Word of God is the spirit of love. And the spirit of love (Jesus Christ) has always existed from the beginning. So to know Jesus is to know love, which is to obey the 10 Love Commandments. Friend, folks who have chosen to live their life in obedience to the 10 Love Commandments have known Christ (love) the Spirit of God (love) all throughout history, even during the first 4,000 years before he came to planet Earth in the form of a baby. Consequently, when the Word of God (love) ABIDES in you, you are overcoming evil (sin). Paul penned: Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). See, evil (sin) is trying to kill your soul for all eternity, but if you conquer it by following the WAY of good (love) obey the 10 Love Commandments you will overcome sin s (evil) destruction and obtain eternal life. Understanding the Word of God is really the 10 Love Commandments allows us to comprehend the Bible s clear assertion that the Word of God is something to be obeyed. Subsequently, we find Bible verses declaring: But be ye DOERS of the WORD, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves (James 1:22). Do you see? We must DO (obey) the 10 Love Commandments. In other words, we must DO (obey) the Word of God! James intelligently preceded the above verse with these words: Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the ENGRAFTED WORD, which is able to SAVE your souls (James 349

6 1:21). Let me boil James words down for you: DOING the 10 Love Commandments the Words God (Christ) spoke will SAVE your soul!!! Notice the contrasting of good & evil? Friend, the Word of God is something that has to be engrafted into your spirit, which will then change your thoughts, desires, & emotions to WANT to follow the WAY of love, thereby saving your soul. On the other hand, if you hardheartedly refuse to obey God s Word, you will lose your soul. God told the Israelites: Because he hath DESPISED the WORD of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment(s), that SOUL shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him (Numbers 15:31). Solomon wrote: Whoso DESPISETH the WORD shall be DESTROYED: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded (Proverbs 13:13). Simple enough, right? Look, whenever you sin (disobey the 10 Love Commandments) you are actually despising the Word of God (Christ)! If you steal, your thievery is saying, I hate you Jesus! When you lust sexually after strange flesh, your sexual immorality is saying, I despise you Christ! If you yearn for wealth & assets, your covetous and idolatrous heart is saying, I abhor you God! Do you see? Your evil (sinful) deeds are on par with spitting on Christ s face, yourself!!! The Bible informs us the Word of God is something that will endure forever. And of course it will, for love (God) will never die!!! Jesus said, Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my WORDS shall not pass away (Matthew 24:35). Do you see? God s (Christ) words are the words of love, and love is eternal because God is eternal! Therefore, the Word of God has always been God s word for mankind to fulfill, and someday the righteous, forgiven souls will live forever never pass away! like the Spirit of God. This was the thrust of God s message through the ancient prophets. God continually warned mankind to REPENT (turn from their wicked sins of disobeying the 10 Love Commandments) and follow the WAY of God (love) and live. That was Jonah s message to Nineveh, Jeremiah s message to Israel, and John the Baptists message in the wilderness. Even today, nothing has changed! Any true prophet of God shouts the same message: REPENT and obey God s 10 Love Commandments to obtain forgiveness for your sins and receive eternal life! 350

7 Alright, let me tie all these Biblical concepts together once again: Obeying the 10 Love Commandments is showing love, knowing truth, displaying the Holy Spirit, bearing fruit, exhibiting faith in God, despising money, fulfilling the will of God, and following the Word of God. Wow, do you grasp the entirety of the Bible s message in regards to what mankind MUST DO to obtain eternal life (with its many terms and concepts) is all wrapped up in obeying the 10 Love Commandments? That is because they are the heart of the Law! Obey them and live forever; disobey them and perish!!! Understanding the above paragraph is no small revelation for it unlocks and clarifies the meaning behind a plethora of Scripture verses. Listen to a complicated passage written by Peter combining many of these elements. You should now be able to clearly understand everything Peter is saying: Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible (seed), by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the Word of the Lord endureth for ever (I Peter 1:22-25). Wow, how about the incredible wisdom of the Holy Spirit displayed behind those words? Friend, Peter knew the truth was all centered around L-O-V-E, which is God! Allow me to summarize Peter s words: Since the world is passing away and only love is eternal if you want to live forever, you must obey the truth the Word of God (the 10 Love Commandments) to purify your soul. If you DO love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself it will prove your soul has been born again of God s eternal Holy Spirit of love. Comprehension of the link between all these Biblical concepts (all focused on obeying the 10 Love Commandments) allows us to now truly understand a very powerful parable Jesus told. The parable describes the four dissimilar heart responses people produce when confronted with the Word of God i.e. the message that they MUST stop sinning and OBEY the 10 Love Commandments. It is the parable of the seed sower. With his brain swimming in wisdom, Jesus opened 351

8 his mouth: Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, (1) some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: (2) Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And (3) some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But (4) others fell into good ground, and brought forth (good) FRUIT, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold (Matthew 13:3-8). Fortunately, Jesus interpretation of the spiritual meaning behind this striking parable was included in the Bible. And I want you to pay particular close attention to two overlooked truths that come out of it. One, the parable clearly confirms again that obtaining eternal life is NOT a one-time decision but a continual, daily journey. And secondly, the parable clearly and unmistakably reveals the fact that someone can be following the narrow path leading to eternal life for awhile and then get off course and begin traveling the wide path leading to destruction (hell)! Let us take a detailed look at the amazing parable. Jesus began explaining the parable to his Disciples: Now the parable is this: The SEED is the word of God (Luke 8:11). Nice! We have plainly learned by now the Word of God to mankind is for them to willingly DO (obey) the 10 Love Commandments. Next in the parable, we notice the seed the sower was scattering is landing in different places i.e. way side, stony place, thorny place, and good ground. These different places represent the four unique hearts (or spirits) people posses in reaction to HEARING the Word of God. In other words, folk s spirits (thoughts, desires, & emotions) will react differently initially and over the course of time! when confronted with God s Word which commands them to stop sinning (repent) and choose to follow the WAY of love by obeying the 10 Love Commandments. Out of the 4 heart responses, 3 lead to eternal damnation and only 1 leads to eternal life! Therefore, this parable takes a meticulous look into the heart conditions of mankind, shining a revealing light on EXACTLY WHY most souls will perish on Judgment Day while only a few will obtain eternal life. Let us take a comprehensive look at the four hearts. Jesus taught: Those by the WAY SIDE are they that HEAR; 352

9 then cometh the devil, and taketh away the WORD out of their hearts, lest they should BELIEVE and be SAVED (Luke 8:12). Ah, see, by now these Biblical words should leap off the page with spiritual meaning! For instance, you know exactly what the Biblical term believe means it really implies obeying the 10 Love Commandments! (Go back and read the Faith chapter if you need to refresh your memory.) Thus, wayside-hearted people are so hardened toward God (love) that they instantly refuse to repent of sin. Consequently, their lack of repentance turning from sin (evil) to obeying God s 10 Love Commandments proves they do not believe in God (love)! Therefore, they cannot be saved and will perish on Judgment Day. When these type people are told they need to stop loving money & possessions (dirt), stop being sexually immoral, start keeping the Sabbath day holy, etc, their spirit (thoughts, desires, & emotions) immediately rise up and angrily growl, No one s going to tell me how to live my life! I ll do whatever I want! Can you hear the words of a calloused heart? Can you hear the words of a rebellious heart towards God? The devil s grip on these people s spirits (thoughts, desires, & emotions) is so severe that he literally sucks the soul-saving truth of God s words of love right out of their mind the moment they hear or read it! Satan is like a black crow in their mind devouring God s word like seed falling on a hard, trodden-down path! If these people s spirits (hearts) never soften towards God (love) and repent, their continual, willful, wicked sin (refusal to love) will kill their soul. Jesus continued: They on the ROCK are they, which, when they HEAR, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while BELIEVE, and in time of temptation fall away (Luke 8:13). Wow, do you see? These people FOR A WHILE BELIEVED! The original Greek word translated believe here is the same Greek word used in the plethora of Biblical verses stating, He who BELIEVES shall be saved. Therefore, there is NO disputing that these people were on their way to obtaining eternal life, for they BELIEVED!!! And what really proved their belief and caused their joy? Without a doubt, they turned from their sins and began obeying the 10 Love Commandments. Jesus said, If ye keep my (10 Love) commandments, ye shall abide in my love These things have I spoken unto you that YOUR JOY might 353

10 be full (John 15:10, 11). See, they repented!!! They heard the message of God s word (Word of God) just like Jesus instructed us to preach: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations Teaching them to OBSERVE (OBEY) all things whatsoever I have COMMANDED (the 10 Love Commandments) (Matthew 28:19, 20) and they were delighted! They were willing to change their life to the WAY of righteousness (love). Oh, but then look what happens. Listen to Christ s explanation of the stony-hearted person in Mark s Gospel: And these are they likewise which are sown on STONY ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have NO ROOT in themselves, and SO ENDURE BUT FOR A TIME: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the Word s sake, immediately they are offended (Mark 4:16, 17). Do you understand this? When wicked folks start making fun of them for not wanting to go out drinking in the bars any more, or laughing at them for not wanting to look at pornographic images on their cell phones, or ridiculing them for keeping the Sabbath day holy, etc, they are saddened! The list of persecutions for living righteously is endless, but eventually stonyhearted people say, Enough of this, I m tired of people making fun of me and deriding me! I m going back to my old sinful ways to fit in and be accepted by the world. At that point, they return to the wide path that leads to destruction, for they go back to disobeying the 10 Love Commandments proving they NO LONGER BELIEVE in love (God). In other words, they were saved for awhile, but then they are not! These people s spirits are just like Jesus parable of the sower revealed; the soil of their heart is stony and shallow, not allowing the Word of God to take deep enough root! Thus, the HEAT of persecution withers away their initial, spiritual emotion of joy which stemmed from following the WAY of love towards God and their fellow man and the maltreatment becomes too much for their spirit (thoughts, desires, & emotions) to handle, and so they cave in to the pressure and return to the sinful crowds way of life. What a sorry fate these type people will face! Do you remember Peter s words about them? Listen: For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the KNOWLEDGE of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (which is to know love or to obey the 10 Love Commandments), they are again entangled therein, 354

11 and overcome (return to their sinful ways of disobeying the 10 Love Commandments), THE LATTER END IS WORSE WITH THEM THAN THE BEGINNING. For it had been better for them not to have known the WAY OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, than, after they have known it, to turn from the HOLY (10 Love) COMMANDMENT(S) delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire (II Peter 2:20-22). Ugghhhh how very, very sad!!! After learning this passage of Scripture, HOW can anyone refute the ONLY WAY to obtain eternal life is by TURNING from sin which is to obey the 10 Love Commandments? It is so barefacedly obvious!!! Look at the verse again; Peter said these people escaped the pollutions (sins) of the world through the KNOWLEDGE of the Lord Jesus. Remember, to know Jesus is to know love, which is to obey the 10 Love Commandments! Listen to John s words, again: And hereby we do KNOW that we KNOW him (Jesus), IF we keep his (10 Love) commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him (I John 2:3, 4). Honestly, friend, how much clearer can the truth be? The Bible is perfectly lucid on what it means to truly KNOW Christ! It means to know LOVE by ceasing to disobey the 10 Love Commandments! Do you see? And it has meant THAT down throughout all of history even for the first 4,000 years when mankind never heard the name of the Earthly man Jesus Christ! Consequently, to cease sinning by coming to know Christ (love) and then turn back to a sinful lifestyle to NOT know Christ (love) is a catastrophic decision! These people s punishment will be severe in the end. Hear me reader; even if the WHOLE world denies Christ s WAY of love (mocking you and calling you a fool for keeping God s 10 Love Commandments), you arch your back, thrust out your chest, and shout, I WILL love my God with all of my heart and my neighbor as myself! Even if I m the last man on Earth who will do so, then so be it! Friend, you have NO idea how pleased and joyous the Father God in heaven is over one of His spirit children possessing this type mindset! They will SURELY reap a bountiful harvest of eternal life in 355

12 God s heavenly Kingdom one day for following after the WAY of love, hearing God say, Well done my GOOD and faithful servant! Jesus continued, And that which fell among THORNS are they, which, when they have HEARD, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring NO (good) FRUIT to perfection (Luke 8:14). Ah, do you see? Here, Jesus uses the bear good fruit phrase! But by now you know the good fruit we are to bear is also obeying the 10 Love Commandments. Therefore, what stops thorny-hearted people from obeying the 10 Love Commandments (showing love)? The LOVE OF MONEY which is the root of all evil! They are covetous and idolatrous people who cannot bring themselves to feed the hungry, quench the thirsty, or clothe the naked, etc, because they want to store up worthless dirt (money) for themselves! They most likely lie, cheat, steal, murder, etc, in their pursuit of money, but even if they do not money (dirt) is still their god (what they trust in), and that idolatry is enough to send their soul to hell! Listen to Jesus interpretation of the thorny-hearted person in Mark s Gospel: And these are they which are sown among THORNS; such as HEAR the WORD, And the cares (concerns, worries, anxieties) of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful (Mark 4:18, 19). I cannot say it any better; this is the Love of Money chapter s message summed up in a nutshell! Worrying about saving your (fleshly) life on planet Earth is a waste of time. But these people are all wrapped up in their busy everyday lives, as if the materialistic possessions they are obtaining actually matter. And it is an extremely useless existence! Thorny-hearted people are stressed to the max over an immediate future they have absolutely no control over, and these silly concerns will strangle any chance of them displaying continual, daily, selfless deeds of love (good fruit). When your heart loves mammon (wealth & assets) you will NOT selflessly help other people. You just cannot DO it! Your time will be spent obtaining more and more money and dirt possessions. You will acquire things you do not need only lust after! on credit plans, hopping on life s mad hamster wheel. Round and round you will run, as year after year of your life fades away, accomplishing NOTHING 356

13 of purpose. All your spirit s energy (thoughts, desires, & emotions) will be totally used up supporting your greed. It is a worthless WAY of life. Thus, the thorns in Jesus parable are actually wrong thought processes and beliefs in a person s heart (spirit) about what is truly important in life. To be blunt; Satan has DECEIVED these people!!! And their foolish worries and cares will choke out the small opportunity they had to love God and their neighbor during their brief lifetime on Earth, sending their soul to hell in the end! Finally, Jesus said, And these are they which are sown on GOOD GROUND; such as HEAR the WORD, and receive it, and bring forth FRUIT, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred (Mark 4:20). Friend, this is the ONLY response to God s Word that leads to eternal life! These people s hearts are like soft, rich, fertile ground. They hear the message of love (obey the 10 Love Commandments!) and the seed grabs deep root in their spirit (heart). They start living righteously (bearing good fruit). They DO the things on the do side of the 10 Love Commandments chart and DO NOT DO the things on the do not side. They tell the truth and do not lie. They honor and keep God s Holy Sabbath and do not run around that day chasing the almighty dollar. They give to the poor and do not steal. They are content with what they have and do not covet money & possessions. And their REPENTANT heart (righteous living or bearing the good fruit of love ) will cause God to reward them in the end with eternal life by allowing them entrance into the Promise Land! Yes, friend, to obey the 10 Love Commandments (DO good rather than evil) has always been the Word of God to all mankind, for disobeying them is sin. ALL God truly desires out of you during this age on Earth is TO LOVE by obeying the 10 Love Commandments. Yet, this is the very message that offends wicked people because it cuts right to the core of their evil heart (thoughts, desires, & emotions). The Bible says: The WORD of GOD is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). Do you see? The Word of God (the message instructing and commanding souls to obey the 10 Love Commandments) upsets folks! Tell people to cease 357

14 their sexual immorality, and you will see the devil rage in their eyes. Tell people to stop loving money, sell their possessions, and take up their cross of suffering to follow God s WAY of love, and you will find yourself attacked by diabolical spirits spewing a barrage of venomous, pride-filled words. Do you understand? The Word of God is like a knife, cutting deep into the thoughts, desires, & emotions of a person s heart! Listen to the above verses in the Living Bible: For the WORD of GOD is full of living power: it is sharper than the sharpest dagger, cutting swift and deep into our innermost thoughts and desires with all their parts, EXPOSING US FOR WHAT WE REALLY ARE. He (God) knows about everyone, everywhere. Everything about us is bare and wide open to the all-seeing eyes of our living God; NOTHING can be hidden from Him to whom we must explain all that we have done (Hebrews 4:12, 13, Living Bible). Wow, the Word of God is powerful!!! Friend, you MUST make a conscious effort to obey God s Word stop sinning (repent) and obey the 10 Love Commandments if you want to obtain eternal life, for God is watching everything you DO and you WILL answer to Him for it all! A good test to know what condition your heart is currently in is to perceive your response to the message you MUST willfully choose to OBEY the 10 Love Commandments to obtain eternal life. Does that offend you? If so, you are probably still willfully sinning! Do you not believe it? If so, you are severely deceived by Satan! Friend, those who live their life in accordance to the 10 Love Commandments are not offended by the Word of God. Do you understand? It does not cut their soul! They can hear the Word of God preached all day long (about the sins of loving money & possessions, blasphemy, not keeping the Sabbath day holy, hatred, sexual immorality, lying, etc, and never once be offended, because they are NOT sinning. Do you see? Oh, what peace and joy there is in living right!!! Listen to the Psalmist: Great PEACE have they which LOVE thy LAW (the 10 Love Commandments): and NOTHING SHALL OFFEND THEM. Lord, I have hoped for thy salvation, and DONE thy commandments (Psalms 119:165, 166). Do you love obeying God s 10 Love Commandment law? Or are you offended by it? You MUST obey God s Law of Love 358

15 to receive eternal life in the end. The Apostle Paul knew such and wisely penned: For not the HEARERS of the law are just before God, but the DOERS of the LAW shall be JUSTIFIED (Romans 2:13). Friend, if you strive on a continual, daily basis to obey the Word of God (obey the 10 Love Commandments) which is to seek after righteousness your repentant soul WILL enter the Kingdom of God and live forever. 359
