Promote Active Fellowship With Masonic flew back to Canada on April 10 to visit with my family Friends And Family. in Edmonton. On Monday, April 12, my sister drove me L---1 to Evergreen Lodge #166 and when my brother, Charles Dickson (Dick) Cousineau, opened the door of the.lodge to let me in, it was the first time in fourteen years that had seen him. t is hard to describe the emotions felt sitting in Lodge with my brother who is their Junior Warden. t was a great way to have a reunion after all those years. On Thursday night Fe travelled together to the small city of Wetaskiwin and attended the stated meeting of Wetaskiwin Lodge #15. This was a special evening for both of us since our grandfather, Andrew Roger Dickson, was a charter member of this Lodge and as its first Master, served the Lodge from 1902 to may have many memorable moments in Masonry, but do not think that anything will top the two evenings spent in Lodge with my brother. While was gone, Oasis Lodge #52 held another successful pig roast in the park. Horizon Chapter #69 of the Order of East em Star collaborated with us again this year and they are in large measure the reason for our success. Senior Warden Randy Jager again supplied the pig and roasted it to perfection. Bro Randy also sat in the.east for the stated meeting during my absence., " > - -", On Apri127 Oasis Lodge conferred the degree of Master Mason on Brother lames Bonar. Quite.a number of our usual ritualists were absent for the degree but a number of Brothers of the Lodge stepped up to the plate,,--..and took on roles despite the lack of preparation and practice time. n addition, Worshipful Brothers Paul Nordstrom and Gene Scott stepped in to make the evening a resounding success. For the first time in a number of years Oasis Lodge #52 is able to confer a third degree using only the members (Continued on page 2)

4 Brethren, bring you greetings from the West....'..'. was recently reminded of what a wonderful Fraternity we are all part of, and just how good it is when our entire Masonic community works together. n conjunction with the 2010 Southwest Scottish Rite Regional Reunion, a Louisiana Degree Team presented the Scottish Rite version of the 1,2, and 3. These Degrees were open to all interested Master Masons, and there was truly a terrific turn out for them. They Were well presented and very well received by those in attendance. must say, however, one of the most truly wonderful things observed during my attendance at these Degrees. was the Masonic community at its fmest. There, at one event, were Masonic members from all walks of the Fraternity coming together to discuss and learn, to compare and contrast, to socialize and spread the cement of Brotherly Love. t was an inspiring event to be part of, and it was a reminder of one of the reasons why hold this Fraternity so close to my heart. We also have examples of this type of Masonic community on a local level On Sunday nights, the Sabbar Shrine has pulled together a bowling league which is made up of many different Masonic Bodies. The Brothers and Sisters of our Fraternity get together and simply enjoy the fellowship. Some bowlers may be better (Continued on page 5) Here it is nearly the end of May! Where is the time going anyway? We are nearly halfway through the year already-- don't think 'm quite ready for it to be over yet, but it will be before you know it. How about your personal goals? Have you been progressing toward the ones that you have established for yourself? What's tharz You didn't actually set any goals for this year? Well, if you didn't, you are probably in good company as many of us did not actually set goals to be accomplished this year. Now some of us do this at work as we have a boss to satisfy and we have projects that have to be completed or something of this sort. However, few of us actually do the same thing in our personal life. Why not? As it has been said, if you have no goals you have no destination and any. place you get to is as good as any place else. s this what you want in your life? Just wandering from one place to another with no goals or particular plans in place and not knowing what place you will be in next? Probably not. Admittedly some people seem to like this style of existence, but not most of us. Let's look at what we learn as we work at be-.coming an officer in the Lodge. When we start we are usually assigned a position as the Marshal or perhaps one of the Stewards. These seem to be simple positions to fill and it's easy to learn the few lines that are needed to fulfill the needs of the position. But are these positions really as simple astheyseem or are they just ata level that we can handle as a new Mason? The lesson to be learned here is that you should always set your goals according to' your abilities, not necessarily according to your ultimate desires. t seems easier to fulfill the tasks of the Marshal than it would be to do the tasks of the Master or even one of the Wardens and that is because that is actually the case-it S easier and that makes it the correct place to start. As'\...-; you become proficient as the Marshal, you are also increasing your ability to advance to a more complex and difficult (Continued on page 5)
5 (Continued from page 4) than others, but that does not really matter. What does matter is that the Masonic Fraternity is together... working as one. There are, of course, many other examples of this type of event. Oasis Lodge attempts to host several Masonic community type events each and every year. ". Worshipful Master Roger Cousineau's lapel pin for 2010 celebrates the Masonic Community, and it is well that it should. When the great minds of our Fraternity break down the walls of ego and pride, we can accomplish truly amazing things. Each and every Masonic Body can bring some slightly different aspect to the overall Fraternity, but we have to be open to hearing from them. We cannot allow ourselves to be caught up in the day-to-day work (albeit important work) of tunning just Oasis Lodge. Fortunately, Oasis Lodge tries very hard to celebrate the various Masonic Bodies in Tucson and Arizona. n fact, take a moment to find the Oasis Masonic Lodge #52 vision statement that is listed in this month's edition of the Trestleboard.. :1 will wait here. Did you find it? Did you :find the portion of the vision statement that focuses on the Masonic community? Right! Not only is this idea included in the Oasis Masonic Lodge vision statement, but it calls for Oasis Masonic Lodge to be a "recognized active participant in the Masonic Community." Of course Oasis Masonic Lodge cannot achieve this vision without the participation of all of its members, so we call all of our Oasis Brothers to help in celebrating our Masonic Community. Find some way in celebrating your Fraternal Brothers and Sisters soon. f you are unsure of when the next event is available to do so, stop by Oasis Lodge on any given Tuesday, or contact one of the Lodge officers and ask them to :find out for you. We will gladly help you :find a time to celebrate our Fraternity at your earliest convemence. Until then, am looking forward to seeing you all in Lodge very soon. (Continuedfrom page 4) station. What have we learned? Start at the bottom and work your way up, slowly, methodically and patiently. "Time, patience and perseverance will accomplish all things." sn't it strange that this simple process of setting goals, working from the bottom up, etc. fits so well with one of our lessons! Of course, every one's goals and abilities are NOT the same as everyone else. Some men are just able to learn the parts and the floor work more easily than others. know just how frustrating that can be to someone that is struggling to learn to do the "simple" parts, been there, done that! However, take heart! Even whenit seems to be almost insurmountable you can make it work if you just take it slow and easy and work at it a peace at a time. One other thing that would like to point out when it comes to learning the ritualistic work, try to learn the meaning of the work at the same time you learn the words or the floor movements. This will add a great deal of meaning to the candidate and even to the sideliners.t will always come through in the way the work is delivered. One last parting thought-do always follow my own advice? Unfortunately, not always. lhave struggled with parts that have to perform to advance up through the officers stations just like everyone else, but it always comes back to the same thing in the end--work steadily and patiently and eventually it WLL work out. "'---- Please send me your thoughts on this or othertopics at my address. hope to meet and greet you at Lodge soon.

When was first allowed into our unique fraternity, was informed that each sincere Mason is engaged in a process of changing, of subduing his passions, to improve himself systematically in the school of speculative Masonry. By virtue of mental, moral and physical limitations, it has become clear to me that not every person qualifies to engage in the art of changing. But for those who manage to break free of such constraints, changing to become a better person will be nonetheless a rough and rugged road to travel, beset with ruffians intent on robbery or even the murder of one's progress. Yes, the ruffians 'm referring to are of the most insidious kind that deny us any opportunity to the raising of our own character, and to the moral betterment of civil society. Take these ruffians by name for example:" "" if within his power. A Brother's Knee -will not forget who you are to him and will watch out for your happiness too, nor treat you any differently than how he would want himself to be treated. / A Brother's Breast -will shield your weakest point of security from outside assault. A Brother's Hand -will see danger when you cannot and catch you before you fall, and redeem your worth, which others may fail to recognize. A Brother's Mouth -will carefully and gently offer, in truest friendship, a cure to that rough side of you that you had not dared to know or to address.
