Praise the Lord, what a God we serve! Day by day at Barnes Evangelistic Ministries we are constantly reminded of the goodness, mercy and love of God we enjoy as we serve Him and tell others of His love and salvation in Christ Jesus, what a privilege we have! The prayers and support of our friends help enable us to keep the banner waving high for the Lord! Thank all of YOU who stand with us in this Gospel ministry! January and February: Praise God for another year in His work! We are excited about what God did this last year and we look forward with that same excitement and anticipation to what He has planned for At the writing of this newsletter we have already past the first two months of the year and I am happy to report that our Heavenly Father is still on the throne and He continues to keep His Word and promises. We have been very busy in these two months preaching in several churches, singing and promoting the Gospel Radio Network radio ministry. I have so much to say to you it is impossible to put it all on this front page of this Shield of Faith, so, may I encourage you to read what is reported on the inside pages. God is working and doing great things! January 3 & 4. The man that contracted to erect our new 200ft. radio tower arrived and started working on January 3. On January 4 the work was complete and all was well. The Lord answered prayer again and it rained for one week before the work on the tower work and one whole week after the tower work, but on the 3rd & 4 th the sun (SON) shined bright and the temperature was perfect. What a mighty God we serve! (more info inside). January 9 & 10. Every year our family looks forward to attending the Fresh Start Sword of the Lord Conference at the Tri-county Baptist Church in Senoia, GA. where our friend Dr. Doug Anderson is the pastor and Brother Ron Whitlock is the Pastor Emeritus. Our family helped with the singing as we heard wonderful preaching by Dr. Shelton Smith and Pastor Bobby Roberson. These two dear friends were a blessing, as always, and gave us a Word from God. January 15. Our family was honored to drive to Bowling Green, KY. and preach and sing for our dear friend Pastor Scott Kennedy at the Homecoming of The Victory Baptist Church. The Lord is using Pastor Kennedy to help get this church going again in the work of God. This young pastor is excited and the Lord has just moved them into a new facility. Please pray for this young determined and dedicated pastor. On that Sunday night we enjoyed preaching and singing for Pastor Scott s father, Pastor Donald Kennedy at the Larue Baptist Church in Hodgenville, KY. February. We continued to do a lot of work at the new tower site of the Gospel Radio Network and WEYY radio to relocate the transmission equipment as soon as possible (more info inside). As of January our family (in addition to our regular scheduled revivals and meetings) hit the Deputation Trail for GRN. We have been praying about doing this for some time. God gave us an open door and we began in the west Georgia area (our Jerusalem) to present the radio ministry in churches. We have a power-point presentation and all the various materials to hand-out. In only a few weeks God has allowed us to visit over 20 churches and present the ministry and preach and sing in many of them. We are claiming 2 Cor. 9:6 and attempting to sow bountifully. God is so good and we have been sweetly received in every church and we are praying these churches ~ 2 ~ will support GRN as part of their monthly missions giving. We are asking all pastors to pray about booking a date with us to come to your church (or send you a DVD presentation) and show you what God is doing with GRN in the US and all over the world. You will be amazed! To God be the GLORY, great things He IS doing!! WEYY 88.7FM Radio Station May 24 th will be our fifth anniversary to be on the air as 88.7FM Christian radio station in Tallapoosa, GA. Since that date we have operated the local station on a temporary antenna tower and location. The Lord provided three acres for us and has allowed us to erect a 200ft. tower in a permanent location. We have prepared a new equipment building and we are in the process of getting the electricity in it right now. Once we make this transition the local station will be greatly improved and more efficient. The internet station of GRN has been greatly used of God since it began operation on June 15, Both the internet and local stations have need of regular financial support and additional donations to purchase equipment needed for the transition of the local station. 3 Before you get concerned at my title, don t worry, I don t mean the Gospel plan or presentation is flexible in its content or message, I mean. Soul winning can be done any and everywhere. God has allowed me to lead lost souls to Christ in so many places I can t even count them. The Gospel message works in church at the altar; in Sunday school; on the bus; in the restroom; in the kitchen; on the parking lot; in the street; at the hospital; in the waiting room; at the gas pump; at the front door; at the back door; through a window; on the roof; at the funeral home; on the golf course; in a restaurant; on an airplane; on a train; in a boat; in a ball game; in an elevator; on the stairs; in the dentist chair; in the barber chair; in the hair dresser s chair; under the house; under the car; in a cave, etc. I m sure you can add to the list. The Point is No matter where we are we can be soul winners! Win Someone! Excited People-Excite People A dear pastor friend of mine said that statement to me more than once, and, you know what? He was absolutely RIGHT. I don t care if you are talking about some sporting event, a rock concert, or even a political rally, excited people-excite people. As my family and I have traveled about recently to advertise the radio ministry we have been in over twenty churches. All these churches were what we would call fundamental Bible preaching churches. Nevertheless, I noticed in most of them something was missing. What could it be? Another pastor friend of mine asked one time, Why are so many churches small and not growing. Do you think it is because of a lack of organization? Of course, I quickly agreed with him, but as I thought I believe that is only one of the problems. One of the most crippling dangers the Devil is using today in our fundamental Bible preaching churches is.. We have lost our excitement! Churches are not EXCITED today about who they are or what they are doing. In our world today there is a lot more excitement about a Little League ball game, a trip to Six Flags, a boxing match, a political meeting, a marble shooting contest, an auto race, or even a rooster fight than there is in coming to Sunday school and church. All of these things will attract a lot more people than most of our churches. No one in their right mind wants to go to a church that is dead as last year s bird s nest or dry as cracker juice. Would YOU? Excited people-excite people! No. I m not talking about some worldly, false, plastic and feeble excitement! I don t mean the kind of excitement that is stirred by come-as-you-are dress standards; or flashing lights; or drama teams dancing or putting on shows; or music concerts that get-down; or pastor s without a dress coat and tie; or banners hanging on all the church walls; or clapping hands and doing the Twist, or Show-time-at-the Apollo. These things may stir excitement for a while, but it won t last or produce anything the Holy Spirit will sanction. No, I m talking about a church that begins and ends with excitement in every service. Excitement that comes from who we are and what God has done for us; from a man of God that studies the Book and not the internet and preaches the Word of God with POWER; The song service is from the hymnal and glorifies Jesus; the service has an order and direction; the buses are bringing boys and girls that have no way to get there; the members are excited about things like missionaries and revival meetings and visitors; the invitation is the most important part of the service; people are not afraid to say Amen, or shout in the Spirit or weep.this kind of church will be excited about people getting saved more than any other thing. The most exciting place in the hospital is NOT the cardiac unit (I ve been there). The most important place is the maternity ward, where the babies are being BORN! Pastor, if YOU are not excited about soul winning.. You won t ever have a soul winning church. Put Christmas decorations in the baptistery. If YOUR choir is not excited about singing for Jesus. You won t get visitors to sing. If the PEOPLE of the church don t go to the altar. No one else will go either. May God help us to NOT let the Devil steal our EXCITEMENT! We have every right reason in the world to be EXCITED. We have a SAVIOUR; we are SAVED and on our way to HEAVEN; we have brothers and sisters in CHRIST; we have access to God through PRAYER; we have the blessed Holy Spirit to GUIDE us and TEACH us. This is a few of the reasons we and our churches should be EXCITED. D. L. Moody was asked one time, How do you get so many people to come hear you preach? Mr. Moody replied, I just ask God to set me on fire and then people come to see me burn! May the theme song in our churches be? Set my soul afire Lord, for Thy Holy Word. Burn it deep within me, let Your voice be heard; Millions grope in darkness in this day and hour, I will be Your witness, fill me with Thy power. Don t be fooled As the church goes, so goes America. EXCITED PEOPLE-EXCITE PEOPLE! ~ 3 ~

4 Same Thing Just More of It Dr. Jack Hyles pastored The Grange Hall Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas for some years and the church grew to its largest attendance. After going to pastor The First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana and being there for several years, Dr. Hyles invited one of his former deacons, Brother Wood Armstrong to visit First Baptist. After a Sunday morning service with the room full of people and an invitation where several were saved and baptized, Dr. Hyles asked Brother Armstrong what he thought of the service. He answered, Same thing, Preacher, just a lots more of it. II Timothy 2:2, And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. The Georgia National Fair One of the ministries of Barnes Evangelistic Ministries is our soul winning effort at the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia every October. This year (Lord willing) will be our twenty-first year to set-up our tent and pass out tracts for eleven days and see many precious lost souls come to Jesus and be saved. We are always amazed at what God does each and every year. Hundreds (maybe even thousands) of people have been saved through this soul winning ministry. Every fear in January I ask the Lord if He wants us to go again and every year He has said GO! Of course, we all start praying about the funds to finance this ministry in January. It takes about three thousand dollars to make this soul winning effort happen. This is certainly a lot of money for eleven days of soul winning, but when you consider the value of one soul it becomes a very small amount. If it were a member of my family I would think it isn t much at all. Please help us pray right NOW that God will provide and let God show YOU what part YOU can have. God bless YOU, friend! For the Love of the Game Robert Tyre (Bobby) Jones was the most successful amateur golfer from In 1930 he won the Grand-Slam of golf in one calendar year winning the U.S. & British Opens and Amateur tournaments. This record still stands today. He played in 31 majors, winning 13 and placed among the top ten finishers 27 times. He founded and helped design The Augusta National Golf Club and organized the Masters Tournament. Jones made his living as an attorney in Atlanta, Georgia. One time a sports writer for a national newspaper ask him why he didn t play golf as a professional and win money. His reply was, I don t play the game for money. The word amateur means, to play for the love of the game, therefore, I play as an amateur simply for the love of the game. God is not looking for professionals, He is looking for some Christians that will simply be amateurs, and serve Him out of a heart of LOVE (John 14:15). Deny Yourself Jesus said to Peter, Deny yourself, and again, Thou shalt deny me (Matt. 26:34). There is no choice for us; we must either deny self or deny Christ.
