DOCTRINAL STATEMENT I. Bibliology- The Doctrine of the Bible A. I believe that the Bible is a reflection of God s Character. Since He is perfect, His Word is perfect. Since He is truth, His Word is truth. Since He has all authority His Word has all authority. Since He is without error, His Word is without error. Since He is everlasting, His Word is everlasting. ( Psalm 119:89, 2 Timothy 3:16, 1 Peter 1:25, Matthew 24:35) B. I believe the Bible does not just contain God s Word but is God s Word in full ( 2 Timothy 3:16) C. I believe the Bible is complete with 66 Books ( 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament) Psalm 119:89 D. I believe the Bible is our only rule for faith and practice 2 Timothy 3:16-17 E. I believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of God s Word. This means that God breathed every word of the Bible to the original writers. 2 Peter 1:20:21 F. I believe the King James Bible is the God s perfect and preserved word, and that it is the only acceptable version for English speaking people II. Theology- The Doctrine of God A. I believe our God is one, true and living God, ruler of the heavens and earth. He is the creator of all things seen and unseen- creating the universe in six, literal 24-hour days- Genesis 1:1, 2 Chronicles 20 :6 B. I believe God is a Spirit, possessing intellect, emotion, and will John 4:24 C. I believe in a triune God who reveals Himself in three equal persons (The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit), all having equal attributes. Although equal these persons of the Godhead perform distinct functions while executing God s eternal purposes- Matthew 28:19, 1 John 5:7, Romans 1:20, Genesis 1:26 D. I believe the nature of God is revealed to us through his attributes given to us n His Word 1. God is Omnipotent (All Powerful)- Genesis 17:1, Matthew 19:26 2. God is Omniscient (All Knowing)- 1 John 3:20, Psalm 147:5 3. God is Omnipresent (Everywhere at Once)- Psalm 139: God is Holy- Exodus 15:11 5. God is Sovereign- Ephesians 1:11 6. God is Immutable- Malachi 3:6, James 1:17 7. God is Truth- Jon 14:6 8. God is Good- Psalm 52:1, Psalm 33:5 9. God is Love- John 3:16, Jeremiah 31:3 10. God is Merciful- Psalms 136:1
E. I believe God designed redemption s plan before the foundation of the earth and that he directed all events leading up to the following Christ death and resurrection III. Christology- The doctrine of Jesus Christ A. I believe that Jesus Christ is a person of the Godhead. He is God the Son and is coeternal and coequal with God the Father- Hebrew 1:8, Matthew 1:23, John 1:14 B. I believe that Jesus Christ, voluntarily, without ceasing to be God, came to this earth by the Holy Spirit and born to the Virgin Mary. While on earth, He was fully divine and fully human, yet without sin- Philippians 2:6-11, Matthew 1:20-23 C. I believe that Jesus Christ was unable to sin while on this earth. Hebrew 4:15, Luke 4:1-14 D. I believe that Christ s death on the cross was subsitiutionary sacrifice for the sins of the world. He died on our place, satisfying the demands of a Holy God. By doing this, He made a way for all to come to Him, but He only saves those who come to Him by Faith and believe in His finished work- John 3:16, Isaiah 53:5, Roman 5:8 E. I believe that Christ died and was buried for three days, but then He rose bodily from the grave defeating sin and death. After this, He was seen by over 500 people in a forty day-span. When this period was complete, He ascended into heaven to be with His Father. Today, Christ is in Heaven seated at God s right hand, acting as our High Priest making intercession for us. Hebrews 7:25-26, Acts 1:1-9, Luke 24 F. I believe Christ will return for the believer on earth. This return is imminent, but no one knows when it will occur. This return is called the Rapture of the Church. 1 Corinthians 15:51-58 IV. Pneumatology- The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit A. I believe the Holy Spirit is a person of the Godhead He is God the Spirit and is coequal and coeternal with God the Father- Matthew 3:16-17 B. I believe the Holy Spirit was active in the creation of the world- Genesis 1:2, Genesis 1:26 C. I believe the Holy Spirit was active in the inspiration of God s Word giving the very words of scripture to the writers 2 Peter 1:21 D. I believe the Holy Spirit was active in empowering certain individuals in the Old Testament for a period of time, but He did not indwell them permanently.- Judges 13:25 ; 16:20 E. I believe that currently the Holy Spirit has this present ministry: 1. Convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment- John 16: Restraining the works of sin 2 Thessalonians 2:7 3. Regenerating those who received Christ as Savior- John 3:3-8
4. Assuring the believer of salvation- Romans 8:16 5. Indwelling the believer- 1 Corinthians 6:19 6. Sealing the believer- Ephesians 1: Filling the believer who yields himself to God s desires- Galatians 2:20 8. Illuminating the believer to an understanding of God s Word- 1 Corinthians 2: Giving the believer spiritual gifts for the edification of the church. Some gifts have ceased, but some are permanent and active today- Romans 12:6-8 F. I believe the Holy Spirit is not to be grieved or quenched by the believer. He should strive to walk in the Spirit. Ephesians 4:30 V. Anthropology- The Doctrine of Man A. I believe that man was created in the image of God on the sixth day of creation- Genesis 1:26-31 B. I believe man is tripartite being consisting of spirit, soul, body. It is with his spirit that a man worships and may contact God. The soul includes the conscious and subconscious minds, the realm of emotions and the will. Soul gives a man personality, self-awareness, rationality and natural feeling. The body is a complex physical creation by which a person relates to this world and to other people in the world- Genesis 2:7 C. I believe man was created innocent, perfect and in the image of God, but man s separated him from fellowship with God and banished him from Eden forever. Genesis 1:26-27 D. I believe because of Adam s sin, death passed upon every man. Henceforth, the human race fell to depravity, guilt and condemnation- Genesis 3:6, Romans 5:12 VI. Harmartiology- The Doctrine of Sin A. I believe that every man born into this world is a sinner- Romans 5:12-21 B. I believe sin s definition is as follows: any though, action, or word that violates the law of God given in His Word- 1 John 3:4 C. I believe the penalty for sin is death- not just a physical death, but also a spiritual death that last for eternity- Romans 6:23 D. I believe that God through His Son and salvation made a way of escape from the penalty of sin John 3:16, Romans 6,23 ; 5:8 VII. Soteriology- The Doctrine of Salvation A. I believe that God provided salvation for all men through the shed blood of Jesus Christ who died a substitutionary death on the cross. Apart from any personal merit, man can freely receive this gift of salvation by responding to the Holy Spirits call by faith- John 3:16, Romans 5:8-9, Ephesians 2:8-9
B. I believe that a moment a sinner believes on Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, he is regenerated by the Holy Spirit. At that moment, he receives spiritual life and is given a new nature. He is now declared righteous before God and is reconciled back to God. He is now released from the penalty of sins past, present, and future- John 3:5, Titus 3:5, Romans 8:1 C. I believe in eternal security, meaning once a man is truly saved, he is saved for eternity. God has offered us eternal life. This life is eternal because He is eternal, and is something He only can give. Saying that one could lose His salvation goes against the very nature of eternality of God Himself- Romans 8:1 ;35-39, Hebrews 10:22-23 D. I believe sanctification to be past, sanctifying the believer once and for all by the blood of Christ being set free from the penalty of sin. I believe it is present since every believer is in a process of sanctification (growing in spiritual maturity), being made free from the power of sin. I believe it is also future because the believer in his glorified body will be free forever from the presence of sin.- Hebrew 1-:10-14, John 17:17, Romans 15:16 E. I do not believe the teaching of Calvinism and Arminianism are Biblical interpretations of salvation and theology. Although both contain some Biblical truths, they are polluted by error and humanistic thinking. I base my theology on God s Word alone- nothing more, nothing less VIII. Angelology- The Doctrine of Angels A. I believe that God created an innumerable host of spirit being called angels, who possess personality, never cease to exist, were at their creation without sin, and do not procreate- Nehemiah 9:6, Jude 6 B. I believe that Lucifer, who was created among the host of angels, willfully rebelled and led a great number of angels to follow him against God. Thus, he committed the first sin and is the father of sin. Because of this rebellion, they were all cast out of heaven forever, being confined to unrighteousness and designated as evil angels. Lucifer, from that point on, was referred to by God as Satan or the Devil, and the fallen angels were called demons- Isaiah 14:12-15, John 8:44 C. I believe that Satan and his demons are at work today, opposing the work of God in this world, both in seen and unseen ways- 2 Corinthians 4:4, Ephesians 2:2 IX. Ecclesiology- The Doctrine of the Church A. I believe the New Testament church is a called-out, pastor-led, local assembly of baptized believer who come together to observe the ordinances and carry out the Great Commission 1. I believe the founder of the Church is Jesus Christ Matthew 16:16-18
2. I believe the head of every church is Jesus Christ- Colossians 1:18 B. I believe the church is the God-ordained institution for this age. Since He alone is the head, no man-made organization has the right to rule over the church or churches. The church should be totally independent being: self- governing, self supporting and selfpropagating- Matthew 18:15-17 C. I believe that there are just two ordinances Christ left the church to follow 1. Baptism: by water immersion for believers only- Matthew 28: Lord s Supper: to be observed by believers only- Mark 14:22-24 D. I believe there are two offices in the local church 1. Pastor- 1 Timothy 3: Deacon- 1 Timothy 3:8-10 E. I believe the church today must be at guard and separate itself from such things as: ecumenicalism, the emergent and emerging church philosophies, the seeker sensitive movement, the Charismatic movement, post-modern thinking, Calvinism, Arminianism, and the New Age movement- 2 Corinthians 6:14, Ephesians 4:14 F. I believe the one rule for faith and practice in the church is God s Word- 2 Peter 3:1-2 X. Eschatology- The Doctrine of Last Things A. I believe the return of Jesus Christ for his bride the church, is imminent. This return will be pre-millennial and pre-tribulational, taking the believers out of this world before God judges the sinners in it. This return is called the Rapture. Christ will return in the air, and all believers, living and dead in Christ will be caught up together to meet Him in the air(1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) B. I believe that after the church has been taken out of this world, the seven-year tribulation will occur. During this time on earth, the Antichrist will rule and eventually command all to worship him. God will not stay his hand during this wicked time but will pour out His wrath on humanity through various plagues. While this is taking place on earth, the believers in Heaven will give an account of themselves at the Judgment Seat of Christ. Also, during this time, the believers in heaven will enjoy the delights of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, celebrating the union of Christ with His bride, the church. - Daniel 9:24-27, Revelation 6-8 C. I believe that the end of Tribulation will be drawing to a close as the armies of earth join together to wage war on God. This period will be completed as Jesus Christ and the armies of heaven return at the Second Coming of Christ. The armies of Heaven will completely destroy the armies of earth at the Battle of Armageddon. Satan and his minions will be bound and cast into the bottomless pit. Jesus Christ,
our conquering king, will now rule and reign on this earth for one thousand years ( the Millennium) of peace and righteousness. We, as the believers born before the Millennium, will rule and reign with Christ, and have specific jobs and duties for Christ in His new kingdom- Matthew 24:29-31, Zechariah 14:9-11 D. I believe that the end of the Millennium will be drawing to a close as Satan is loosed for a time to lead a final rebellion against God. God will destroy the host of Satan once again and cast him and his followers into the Lake of Fire. After Satan is defeated, the Great White Throne Judgment will occur. This is the judgment of those not found in the Book of Life. These unbelievers will be case into Hell forever- Revelations 20:7-10 E. I believe that after these events, the old Heaven and the Earth will be destroyed. God will create a new heaven and a new earth where the believer will live in perfect peace and harmony for eternity with Him- Revelation 21-22
