In order to prepare the seating arrangement in the new sanctuary and help our hospitality team plan the reception, we need a clear idea of the number of people who will be attending, so all those coming will need a ticket. Tickets are free, but you must have one to attend. They will be available for pick up in the narthex this Sunday April 17. There is also an online order form which will be up from April Questions? Ask Pastor Guiser or Nina Wason. Our Clergy: The Rev. Kim Guiser, Senior Pastor The Rev. Asha George-Guiser, Associate Pastor Vicar Micah Krey, Seminarian
2 Dedication From the Desk of Nina Wason, Chris Ed Director It was the Festival of Dedication, a time of remembrance of hard times this place and its people had gone through; a time to honor those who had given the so much, in order to make sure their place of worship was a source of beauty, light and truth; a time for folks who had been scattered and folks who had stayed close, to come together again and worship the one true God under one roof. It was a big, beautiful celebration. You might think I m being artsy by writing in the past tense about next week s celebration, but actually this is only what was going on around Jesus in the scene we read about in this week s gospel - John 10:22: Then came the feast of the Dedication of the Temple, HanukkahIt was winter. Jesus was strolling in the temple... The Feast of the Dedication was a remembrance of when the Temple had been desecrated by Antiochus Epiphanes IV, a Hellenist king, in 168 BC. (see hard times above). It was the Maccabees, Jews opposed to the Greek takeover of their religious lives, who fought and died in order to restore the Temple to the Hebrew people (see given so much above). After the Maccabean Rebellion, God s people were again free to gather and worship in the Temple (see under one roof ). But it is pretty good timing, isn t it? Very nice of the lectionary to give us this passage just one week before we dedicate our new sanctuary to God s work. Fortunately, as far as I recall, no big rebellion took place, though we have had our struggles, and there is no doubt many people have sacrificed heroically for us all to gather under one roof at the same time. The people talking to Jesus in this section of the gospel had become pretty sure he did not belong at the Temple festivities though clearly he was there, walking along Solomon s Porch. To the Jews, he may in fact have been as unwelcome as Antiochus Epiphanes, because of his unpleasant tendency to blaspheme by making himself equal with God. But Jesus shapes the conversation of belonging around his deeds of goodness and power, the promise of real life, and the communion with the Father that exists among followers of this Way. It s not about the Temple building. It s the lives of the people. It s how we listen for and to the voice of the one who gives life; it s how we follow in his footsteps and do the work of the Father. It is about being in communion with God and one another. May it be so.. Mother s Day Masses at Trinity Please join us on Sunday, May 8, at the 9 or 11:15 am masses as The Rev. Dr. Asha George-Guiser preaches a special Mother s Day homily to celebrate all the special women in our lives.

4 Faith...The Final Frontier! These are the voyages of the church ship Trinity in its ongoing mission to teach the faith and make disciples for Christ. Captain's Log: Star date Sunday A saucer-like disk (offering plate) will pass by you twice. During its second pass, please consider making a monetary gift to help provide more seating for the ship so more members can boldly go with us at each service. Please place your donation in the special envelope provided in the bulletin on Live long and prosper. Who is the Youth Group? With deepest gratitude, The Memorial Team Paintball. Ministry. Lock-In's. Mission Trips. Manhunt. Dodgeball. Service. This is a snapshot of the past 8 months in the life of Trinity's Youth Group. The Youth Group is the quiet storm brewing in the church. Composed of energetic, Spirit-filled youth, the Youth Group doesn't represent the future of the church...they represent the NOW. They are committed to service, changing the world, and having fun while they do it. They find the time to travel to Detroit to praise God with 35,000 youth from around the country. They have the energy to play hours of Manhunt during their Lock-Ins. They have the willingness to serve the less fortunate in communities across the country and in their own backyard. And guess what...they have room for YOU! Stay tuned to the Trumpet, Youth Board, and Video Announcement screen for ways that you can participate in an upcoming youth activity. Adults: contact Christian Hicks to learn how you can volunteer to serve Trinity's youth.
