4 OVERVIEW OF THE RITE? (Piazza Read from Rite #41 & #42) Inquirers assemble publicly for the first time to declare their intentions to the Church. In turn the Church accepts them as persons who intend to become its members and/or complete sacraments of initiation. God showers His grace on the Catechumens and Candidates.

5 BEFORE THE RITE (Piazza read from RITE) WHAT SHOULD INQUIRERS SEE IN THEMSELVES? Evidence of the initial conversion/intention to change Desire to enter into a relationship with God in Christ Evidence of the first stirrings of repentance Start to call upon God in prayer A sense of Church Experience of the company and spirit of Christians by contact with a priest and members of the Catholic Community.

Eternal Life CATECHUMENS FIRST ACCEPTANCE OF THE GOSPEL ASKED IF THEY ARE READY TO LIVE THE LIFE AS CHRIST TEACHES IN THE GOSPELS Shows catechumens and candidates desire (not commitment) to become Catholic.

8 AT THE RITE: FOR CANDIDATES CANDIDATES ARE CALLED FORWARD WITH SPONSORS CANDIDATES DIALOGUE WITH PRIEST: WHAT DO YOU ASK OF GOD S CHURCH? To be accepted as a candidate for catechetical instruction leading to Confirmation and Eucharist. WHAT DOES THIS PERIOD OF FORMATION OFFER YOU? A fuller sharing in the life of the Church PRIEST ASKS CANDIDATES if they are prepared to listen to the Apostles instruction, gather with the Church for prayer (mass), and join the Church in the love and service of others? They respond: I Am

9 AT THE RITE? For Sponsors and the Assembly AFFIRMATION BY ALL OF SPONSORS AND ASSEMBLY ( all who are gathered here ) PRIEST ASKS SPONSORS IF THEY ARE READY TO HELP THE CATECHUMENS/CANDIDATES FOLLOW CHRIST. Response: WE ARE

10 SIGNING OF THE CROSS SIGNING OF THE CATECHUMENS AND CANDIDATES BY FR. LAHOOD FIRST AND THEN BY THEIR SPONSORS SIGNING OF CROSS ON: FOREHEAD (By Fr. LaHood) (different prayers/and signing done separately) Catechumens: Sign of your new way of life Candidates: Sign as a reminder of your life with Christ EARS That they may hear the voice of the Lord EYES That they may see the glory of God LIPS That they will respond to the Word of God HEART That Christ may dwell by faith in their heart SHOULDERS That they bear the gentle yoke of Christ HANDS That Christ may be known in their work FEET That they may walk in the way of Christ

READING OF SCRIPTURE -1 ST & 2 ND Readings, Psalm and Gospel HOMILY BY PRIEST All are called up for: PRAYER AND DISMISSAL (bring your coats) WHO FOR DISMISSAL: ALL BUT BAPTIZED CATHOLICS GO TO PARISH OFFICE TO STUDY SCRIPTURE. FINISH AT END OF MASS AROUND 12:30P.M. MEET UP WITH FAMILY AND SPONSORS AND CONGREGATION AT HOSPITALITY.

14 CATECHUMENATE STAGE Continue with our Tuesday classes. Inquirers will receive new calendar for Catechumenate Stage. We begin attending 9:30a.m. Mass together except when there is a Rite at a different mass There is reserved seating area for RCIA Dismiss from Mass after homily and study scripture reading in Parish Office until Mass ends. (Adults and Children study separately)
