The walk begins at the gazebo in Palmer Park at 9:20am, followed by refreshments at the Port Perry United Church. Good Friday / Easter Service We will have our Good Friday Easter Service at 6:30pm on Friday April 22 nd with Pastor Harry Salomons leading the service. Communion will be celebrated. Easter Celebration will be on Sunday April 24 th at 10:30am with Pastor Bernhard leading the service. All are welcome to join us. 3 GOD AT WORK IN THE LIVES AT HOPE REFORMED MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER STORY If we were to sum up our experience at the Reformed Marriage Encounter weekend in just a few words, we would both say "It blew us away!" We are amazed at God's great Love for the Marriage Covenant between us. We experienced the power of prayer and God's love just lavishing over us through each presentation and each opportunity to know each other more intimately. We have been given a gift of tools to help us communicate better with each other. We were able to share things of a personal and sensitive nature that we thought could end up in disagreement. Instead, we were healed and blessed every step of the way. We actually had peaceable, meaningful conversations on important stuff - that's a miracle! Every little surprise that arised throughout the course of the weekend just kept us in awe. We recommend Marriage Encounter to all married couples no matter how short or long you've been married...because just when you thought you couldn't have it better, or you couldn't fall in love again...jesus shows up in a powerful way on this Marriage Encounter weekend...to transform your marriage forever in ways you could never imagine...that's God! 4 OPPORTUNITIES INTERIM PORT CHAPLAIN, SEAWAY MINISTRY, MONTREAL, QUEBEC June 2011 December 2011 (with possibility of extension): As an Interim Port Chaplain, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of spiritual care to seafarers in the Port of Montreal. This includes visiting ships, seizing opportunities for meaningful conversations, counseling and consultations, and distribution of Christian literature. You will provide transportation for sailors to Mariners House and assist there as required. This is an opportunity to serve Jesus Christ through ministry outside the typical church setting. Demonstrated ability, education and/or interest in working in a chaplaincy-related capacity is required as well as a valid driver s license. POSITION OPENING - Haiti - The Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA) has a full-time opening for a Construction Manager with the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC) in Haiti. This position will provide consultation to construction projects within CRWRC s relief and rehabilitation activities in transitional shelter and building permanent houses in Haiti. BITS & PIECES Inspired to Live and to Lead All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. This says 2 Timothy 3:16-17 of the Bible. God-breathed : another way of saying inspired. And inspiration, a great idea realized, given life, and brought into being. The Word given life by God Himself in order to provide a solid basis for righteousness, equipping, and good works. It applies to Scripture, but it is should also evoke the story of creation. The story wherein human beings, too, were created: The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being (Gen 2:7). Again, the idea of God creating; giving life and purpose to something dear to Him. All people, God-breathed in order to be of great use in ruling, having dominion, servicing, and tending to all the things God had made. So that the whole creation would be kept in tiptop shape to do its job of testifying to the greatness of her Creator. And so that all those God-breathed people would be prepared for works of service (Ephesians 4:12); good works, moreover, which God prepared in advance for [them] to do (Ephesians 2:10). Indeed, both Scripture and human beings are God-breathed because of their special roles in God s good created order. Both created to have authority to take the lead in ensuring that things are done right: in good order and for God s glory. This means, of course, that we must take seriously the authority endowed on Scripture it is, after all, inspired by God to accomplish something very specific and sacred to Him. It means, too, that we cannot eschew the authority that God expressly gave to us the breath of life and the power to live. The Bible guiding us to live properly before the face of our Creator-God. And human beings

6 taking on the mantle of authority to lead and to rule and to have authority as image-bearers: representatives of that same Creator-God to ensure that His dominion and the glory of His kingdom may never be diminished from the essential goodness that He breathed into all of it. This for and in all that we do. For and in every area of life. Including the Church. Live to lead. And lead to serve Him. For the world s goodness, for our wholeness, and for His glory. It is so by God s design. It is His inspiration. It is God-breathed. BVV (Pastor Bernhard) GENERAL READING The Carpenter's Cloth: Christ's Journey to the Cross and Beyond by Sigmund Brouwer. THE CARPENTER'S CLOTH During Jesus' time there was one way a carpenter let the contractor know a job was finished. A signature, so to speak. Imagine a hot afternoon in Galilee. Jesus has completed the final pieces of a job he has worked on for several days. The hair of his strong forearms is matted with sawdust and sweat. His face is shiny with heat. He takes a final--and welcome--drink of cool water from a leather bag. Then, standing to the side of his work, he pours water over his face and chest, splashing it over his arms to clean himself before his journey home. With a nearby towel he pats his face and arms dry. He sets it on the finished work and walks away. Later, whoever arrives to inspect the work will see the towel and understand its simple message. The work is finished. Christ's disciples, of course, knew this carpenter's tradition. On a Sunday of sorrow, three years after Jesus had set aside his carpenters' tools, Peter will crouch to look into an empty tomb and see only the linens that the risen Lord had left behind. A smile will cross Peter's face as his sorrow is replaced by hope, for he will see the wrap that had covered Jesus' face. It has been folded in half, then folded in half again and left neatly on the floor of the tomb. Peter understands. The carpenter has left behind a simple message. It is finished.

7 For the Family as they mourn Joanne s Mom s passing. The visitation is today at Wagg Funeral Home from 1-3pm and 7-9pm. The funeral is tomorrow (April 18) at Wagg at 11:00am. May they experience the Lords comfort at the time. For Please pray for Jelle as he continues with treatment. For Harold as he continues chemotherapy treatments. For Anne for strength as she awaits news about possible treatment. For Karen s Mom as she continues to recover and may be home by the end of the week. Pray for people who struggle with depression that warmer and brighter days of spring may ease them in their struggle. Please pray that people may prayerfully consider the need for leadership at Hope at this time. Please pray that people may step up to leadership for the coming term. Pray for political leaders and parties as they present their platforms and promises for the upcoming election. Pray for Canada as we consider the future of our country in the elections. For the work of Missions Continue to pray for the DeKoters in Haiti and the Barnhoorns in Nigeria as they work to grow Gods Kingdom. Pray for peace and justice in this broken world that God s Kingdom may become a reality even now.
