*********************************************************************************************************************** Due to repeated vandalism, minor theft and disregard for rules of use of the MRC church building, the Consistory has decided to purchase a security camera system and remote access door locking system. Starting December 1st only the two main East doors and the West entrance near the Refuge will be open on the following Schedule. Doors will be open on Monday Friday from 8 am to 9pm, Saturday from 8 am to 11 am, and Sunday from 7 am to 9 pm on weeks with Sunday evening activities. On weeks with no scheduled Sunday evening activities the building will be closed at 4 pm. We ask that if other doors are used that they are closed securely when you are finished. If you need access to the building other than the scheduled times please contact Mike Kamerman. If you have questions please direct them to Aaron Maassen or Alan Muilenburg. Take a look at the library! The library has added to their collection. Look for new books identified with a green tape. Here is a sampling of recent additions: Books by Tamera Alexander, Terri Blackstock, Jerry S. Eicher, Dee Henderson, Thomas Kincade & Katherine Spencer, Karen Kingsbury, and Traci Peterson. The library is located in the Fireside room.

Upcoming Events The Recycled Teenagers will be having a Christmas Party on Friday, December 15, at 6:15 pm at The Triple Box located at 4758 Ironwood Ave., Orange City, IA. Call Evonne Wielenga ( ) to RSVP for more details. The Angel Tree will be set up again this year to help purchase gifts on behalf of inmates who would like their children to receive gifts this Christmas. The tree will be set up starting Sunday, November 26 and on Sundays in December until all angels are adopted. Gifts will be due back by Wednesday, December 13 to ensure time for delivery! Thank you for continuing to bless this ministry. If you are interested in delivering gifts to Sioux City or Sioux Falls, please contact Kelli Bartlett at or Emily Borger in the office. Winter Work Project This year s work project will be in Manning, South Carolina area where there was massive flood damage that came from the hurricane 2 years ago. It is the exact same area we went last year. It will be during the second week in February from the 9th to the 17th. We will be working with World Renew and it will be headed up by Rob and Sharon Schelling. I am unsure if we will be doing demolition or construction but I am guessing the latter. We will be receiving more information when the Schelling s arrive. However, what we do need is volunteers who will be willing to help! No skills required, just the willingness to lend a hand! So if you are interested, there is a sign-up sheet at the information center or you can contact me (Jerry Vermeer) if you have any questions. We would like to get a rough idea on how many are going as soon as possible. We are hoping to know how many are going by the first of the year, so they know how many to figure on at their end in South Carolina. It would be great if we could have enough to take the bus! Watch your bulletin for more information. Thank you! The Mission Committee Ireton Christian School will be hosting a soup supper and Christmas candy/cookie walk on December 18. Serving from 5-7 pm at the gym. Soups: chili, potato, chicken. They will also be serving taverns, coneys, and hotdogs, with pies, desserts, and ice cream! Free will donation. The Good News Circle Christmas Party will be held on December 2 at 9:30 at The Triple Box.

For the month of December we will start Advent once again and I plan to involve the children with Advent, much like last year. Each Sunday, we will be lighting another Advent candle and talking about our theme, which this year will be "The Angels Message at Christmas". Our message each Sunday of Advent will be based on those angel messages. Once again, the children are asked to bring their name on a small slip of paper, to put in our name bags. We will draw names each week, to assist me in the lighting of our candles. Also, this year, we will be doing a special project all during the Advent season. The project will be "Talking Bibles" from Escondido, CA. Today there are 1 billion people in the world who cannot read. So Talking Bibles has produced a solar powered Bible, for the people to listen to in their language. They have over 100 languages recorded and available on a Talking Bible. There are some unbelievable stories, of changed lives and people hearing for the first time the good news message of Christmas, of Christ coming to this world and bringing salvation to all who will call on His name. Each talking Bible will cost $35 to produce, and that Bible is used over and over and shared with so many people in countries all around the world. So this year, each Sunday of Advent, we are asking the children to bring their gifts of money forward (coins, bills, checks). For each $35 (the cost of 1 Talking Bible), we will hang a small, Talking Bible ornament on our Christmas tree up front. The challenge is how full will our tree be by the end of the year with Talking Bibles. We are inviting not just the children, but everyone in the congregation to join us in this project. A can will be in the back in the Fellowship, labeled Talking Bibles, where you can place your gift or, parents, grandparents, friends may give your gift to one of the children as they come forward with their gifts, and place it in our can of gifts. Each week I will share with the children how many Talking Bibles we have been able to provide for others to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. I have met with the president of Talking Bibles, Mark Hoekstra a number of times, and I believe this is a very worthwhile project and a tremendous way to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with people around the world. Please join us in this project. Thank you. Pastor Roger Voskuil

Moments for Missions Help Others Open their Gift from God! This is the season when gifts abound. Isn t it? You can see Fedex and other delivery services speeding around leaving packages outside of homes. When people come home (especially this time of year) they look to see if something has been delivered. Yet sometimes a package just stays on the front porch unopened. How do you think the giver would feel if they knew their gift was not received. In Ephesians 2, God tells us about the gift that He sent to us. This gift is the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. The problem with this gift is that many people throughout history have left this gift outside of their lives unopened. Within in MRC missions, we are sharing this gift, through ministries that show God s love and tell of God s love through the gift of his Son. Pray for ways that more people can open God s gift, Jesus Christ, by letting Him into their life. As is our tradition, this holiday season at MRC we are offering several opportunities to help others by giving. Through the Prison Ministries Angel tree, you can purchase gifts that would benefit children who have a parent that is incarcerated. Through donating to The ATLAS Christmas Store OR with DONATIONS of WATER and COFFEE, you can help stock the Christmas store that benefits financially challenged families and the ATLAS office during the holiday season. ATLAS Orange City Area is one of MRC s mission partners who helps those who are struggling, wanting to grow, or seeking a mentor. Together they work through a helping process by walking alongside and supporting those who are hurting. At Christmas, people and families are welcome to shop and purchase new items at greatly reduced prices, creating an experience of dignity, respect, and stewardship for all involved: customers, donors, and volunteers. Items are suggestions for store inventory, but if you have something you would like to donate that would make a good gift this can be donated as well. These opportunities to give (Christmas store items, coffee and bottled water) will be available starting Sunday, November 26, and due back Sunday, December 3. If you would like to volunteer at the store on December 9, Saturday, or have questions contact La Donna De Vries. Looking for more ideas to share with someone this holiday season??? Recently, the mission team had a request for ideas for a way to help a family, organization or ministry this holiday season. They were looking for a way to donate their time or make a financial gift wherever it might be needed and were asking for ideas. Are you looking for other ideas? Let us know as a team, and we can give you other ideas. This holiday season pray for opportunities where you can help someone open the gift God left for us the real reason for the season Jesus. The holidays bring many opportunities to talk to people and we just need to open the doors to talk about God and what he has given us. In this season of celebrating our Gift from God, Jesus, help others receive this gift too.

December International Partner focus the Heytsi s in the Ukraine Vasya, Maranda, Natan, and Mihae Heytsi are missionaries in the Ukraine. They lead New Life Church there. Maranda battled hepatitis A virus but praises the Lord that God s protection prevented anyone else from getting it and that she is feeling better. Some of their ministry focus areas are: 1) They have a Feed the Hungry program which is flourishing with people coming twice a week to church to eat a meal and hear the word of God. Many of these people come to church on Sunday mornings as well. These people are not necessarily homeless, although some are, but they are all very poor and have had a problem with drinking too much alcohol. It is a very mixed group all ages. 2) Winter time is always harsh for the Ukrainians. The Heytsi s wish is to be able to help some of these homeless people with shelter from the harsh elements. A small house not far from the church was built for humanitarian purposes (a shelter.) 3) They are undergoing an addition to the original church building. Everything is so corrupt there. To get the government s approval, you pay a bribe even though it is officially free. They sent the churches building plans three times to the government authorities and the plans got rejected every time. By God s grace the 4 th time the plans were approved. 4) The church continues to grow in doing discipleship with youth and adults through Bible study groups and to reach children through a kid s club. Pray for the homeless and poor people they work with, for the building of the church addition and shelter, protection as they enter the winter months, for their health, and for the outreach the church in the Ukraine is doing. The Heytsi s will be in the United States for Christmas and January, and will be able to share in person what God has been doing through this ministry. Pray for their travel, and a time of renewal with family and friends, and energy to return back to their ministry in the Ukraine. Our Special Offering for December will be for Katelyn s Fund. Katelyn s Fund was started a little over 12 years ago as a vision to care for the orphans. Their mission statement is advocating for the fatherless, equipping families and caregivers, and loving the Lord. Katelyn s fund has helped many families financially in their adoption process but even more, have come alongside and supported them during and after their adoption through prayer, an adoption community, educational opportunities, and sharing resources. One Vision Haiti Orphanage is another way Katelyn s Fund is advocating for the fatherless. They have partnered with an orphanage in Haiti and have taken part in teaching and training staff as well as building relationships with the children. They are striving to provide care that enables long term restoration, not short term relief. Most recently, they have developed a sponsorship program to help be a bridge in the physical needs being met. There is a Family Group made up of 6-12 children and 1 mommy that functions as a family within the larger whole group. In this way, they are making the kids feel more like a child and less like an orphan. There is an opportunity for us to be a family group sponsor which means intentionally committing to love, invest in, and pray for a small groups of kids at the orphanage, while also helping to meet the daily needs of the orphanage for $50-$500. Contact lindsey@katelynsfund.org if you are interested! Continue to pray for the orphanage as well as all the families who have adopted or are waiting for their adoption to go through. Mark your offering envelope special for this ministry.

During the month of November, MRC focused on our value of service. November 5th was Hunger Sunday and the MRC congregation had the opportunity to help fight hunger right here in Sioux County. We partnered with the Sack Pack Program of Orange City and had a great time learning more about the program as well has packing nearly 400 sacks! The Mission Team worked with Sack Pack of Orange City to organize a service night of learning and packing sacks. Each week, nearly 200 sacks of food are distributed to local children in the MOC-FV, OCCS & Hospers communities. MRC packed enough sacks for two weeks of distribution! We had a great turn out and thank everyone that was able to attend! Sack Pack of Orange City thanks you greatly for your dedication to this program. Your time, financial contributions and prayers are deeply appreciated!
