We have had a full schedule and many of our staff work long hours during the conference program. Andy MacDonald, our Program Director, does a great job planning and staffing this side of our ministry.

2 PETER & GABY REID DEAR FRIENDS, PETER REID Thank you for your interest in Bodenseehof. As I write, we are in the middle of our summer program and I am so very thankful for the staff and their commitment to serve the Lord this summer. We have had a full schedule and many of our staff work long hours during the conference program. Andy MacDonald, our Program Director, does a great job planning and staffing this side of our ministry. It is a great privilege to host so many guests. We do not take it for granted that more people want to attend Bodenseehof than we have places for. We are bearing the burden of blessing! Along these lines, I would like to thank all those who have supported our building project. Many have commented on the new entrance as they walk through the doors of our center. Praise God who does all things well. Please pray for Steve and April Volle as Steve leads the Bible school team this year. Our students arrive on Friday, September 15. 3 THE OPEN WINDOW PETER REID Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Col. 3:1-3 Daniel s mindset needs to be our mindset. Christ s victorious life from heaven has entered me on earth. I have been born from above. Since His life has overcome death, the greatest form of human weakness, He is able to overcome any weakness in me during my exile. The longer I experience the heavenly life of Christ in me, the more I long to be home For the majority of his long life, Daniel lived in exile under extremely difficult circumstances. He was with Him. This living hope, to which I have been born again, provides real, sustaining power during my difficult greatly used by God and is one of those figures in Scripture of whom no sin or failure is recorded. What was the secret of this remarkable life? It is recorded of Daniel that, he possessed an extraordinary spirit (Dan. 6:3) and we know that this spirit was the Spirit of Christ Himself (1 Pet. 1:10-11). Daniel was filled with the Spirit of Christ and his reliance on Him was guarded at all cost. At a young age, Daniel formed a habit of opening his window towards Jerusalem and THE WINDOW OF OUR SOUL MUST BE OPEN TOWARD JESUS THROUGHOUT THE DAY exile days. The life of Christ within us will make no difference to us, however, if we ignore Him. Daniel gives us a principle to put into practice: the window of my soul must remain open to the place where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Daniel s window was open towards Jerusalem and our souls must be open towards Jesus. The open window is a continual reminder: He is the Lord ruling above me and within me. If He is enough to overcome death, He is praying in that direction three times a day. He did so because he knew that his life began in Jerusalem, not Babylon; he knew his true home was in Jerusalem, not Babylon; he lived in light of God s promise to take His own out of Babylon back to Jerusalem. Daniel decided on a radical, spiritual mindset, which set him apart from his peers. enough for everything else. While we may not be able to retreat to our room three times a day, the window of our soul must be open toward Jesus throughout the day, as we remind ourselves of the authority, power and faithfulness of His indwelling life. 4 TORCHBEARERS INTERNATIONAL ERWIN SCHWARZL Chris Thomas and Peter Reid Dear Friends of Bodenseehof, In June, this year s Torchbearers International Staff Conference was held at Capernwray Hall (England). The conference takes place every four years and in the course of the week, the Executive Council and the General Director of Torchbearers International are appointed for the coming term. Chris Thomas, son of Ian Thomas, has been holding the position of General Director up to this point but ended his tenyear as General Director this year. The Executive Council, consisting of Satish John (India), Stefan Kiene (Klostermühle), John Poysti (Sweden), Tom Marcus (Costa Rica) and Peter Reid (Bodenseehof), appointed Peter Reid as Interim General Director, with the goal of holding an official vote as soon as possible. The board of Bodenseehof unanimously supported the appointment of Peter Reid as candidate for the General Director position. In the case of being elected, both the board and Peter expressed the desire that he would remain Director of Bodenseehof while holding the new position. We are grateful that Peter is willing to take over this new important role alongside leading Bodenseehof. The Reid family will continue to live at Bodenseehof. In order to handle the increasing workload, Peter will receive administrative support. Torchbearers International will cover any additional costs associated with the new staff and position. The functionality and practicality of this new arrangement will be assessed on a regular basis. We at Bodenseehof are very excited about this decision. The work of Peter and Gaby, which has clearly been blessed by our Lord Jesus and has been recognized by the greater Torchbearer family, will continue to be of greater influence. 5 SONRISE YOUTH CAMP DAVID WERNER (VOLUNTEER) Jesus is the Greatest Together with the Bodenseehof staff, the international SMT (Summer Missions Team) and many other volunteers (mostly former guests of Bodenseehof camps), 90 participants, between 14 and 18 years old, experienced a diverse and exciting week with lots of sun, sports and action at this year s Sonrise. Every morning after devotions (taken from the book of Hebrews), the youth met in small groups which turned out to be a very important time. We discussed what we he- ard, asked questions, prayed for each other, and pointed each other back to Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith over and over again (Heb 12:2). The teens encouraged each other to take steps in their faith and to put their trust in Him anew. Following Jesus is absolutely worth it for He not only is greater than the angels, Moses, the high priest and Melchisedek, but He is the greatest sacrifice that God, the Father could have ever offered. Jesus truly is the Greatest! FAMILY NEWS KAI & RUTH MÖWERT We are excited to announce the birth of our little daughter, Zoey Noreen, born on April 10, We are exceedingly grateful for the huge gift the Lord has entrusted us with, and are very happy for the enrichment to our lives she has become. Before and after birth, as well as during labor, we experienced God s goodness, grace and loving care in new ways. The Lord is so good. In this new endeavor, we also want to be courageous and follow Jesus. We very much appreciate your prayers for our family. Kai & Ruth SALOME GÜNTER We are excited to introduce to you our new FSJ-Team, starting September 2017! Aaron Gottwald and Debora Bosch will support the kitchen team. Luise Pessara will be taking care of our guests questions and concerns at the reception and Kathrin Bohnaker will serve in our housekeeping team. Anselm Stahl and Tobias Taut will support our maintenance team. Please join with us in prayer that this will be a meaningful year for them in which they will be focused on Jesus and grow in His likeness.

6 NEW OFFICE STAFF MICHELLE GROSS Hello, my name is Michelle. After almost one year, my time at Capernwray Hall is coming to an end. I first attended as a Bible school student and then joined the staff as a volunteer in the office throughout the summer. Before coming to Capernwray, I lived in Darmstadt and worked for trade companies as a marketing professional. Three years ago, I came to Christ and found myself in the midst of the adventure of discipleship. I am looking forward to coming to Bodenseehof (where I will mainly support Peter Reid in his new position as Interim General Director of Torchbearers International) since it combines so many of my personal interests: my heart for Germany and the joy of experiencing the church worldwide; the possibility to fulfill His mission through my professional background; as well as coming alongside people and encouraging them on their spiritual journey. Long story short, I am excited about God s plans for what lies ahead. NEW KITCHEN STAFF JOHANNA BECK My name is Johanna Beck. I am 20 years old and come from a city close to Memmingen in Bavaria. In July 2017, I completed my professional training to become a cook. I am very excited and grateful that God s leading has brought me here to Bodenseehof, which I came to know through The Crossing. A verse that has impacted me is Philippians 4: 6 7. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. NEW BIBLE SCHOOL STAFF KURT SPICER Hi, my name is Kurt Spicer. I originally come from the city of Elmhurst, Illinois, which is 20 minutes west of Chicago, USA. I was a student at Bodenseehof from For the last 3 years, I have lived in Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. I have been working there as a civilian nurse at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a U.S. military hospital here in Germany. I enjoyed my work there helping patients but always had sensed that the Lord was directing me elsewhere. When asked to take the position as Dean of students at Bodenseehof I struggled with the decision for a long time. I was afraid to give up my job because I was looking at things from the world s perspective. Corrie ten Boom wrote, Hold everything in your hands lightly, otherwise it hurts when God pries your fingers open. The Lord needed to bring some difficult circumstances into my life to confirm that I needed to go. We have such a loving, heavenly Father who guides us (sometimes with a kick) right to where we need to be. People ask me often, what about your nursing career? It is difficult to respond, but what I know is this, tomorrow is not guaranteed, and if I were diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer in 5 years, I would have regretted not obeying the Lord s prompting to come to Bodenseehof.

Our guests can now take a break around our little birch forest or kick their heels up on our new wooden bench.

Between our Easter and summer conferences, our main hallway received a facelift; our bathrooms have changed from the neglected smallest room at Bodenseehof into nice and modern looking facilities;

Our gratitude goes to our Lord and Master(builder), Jesus Christ, for the joy and the means necessary to build all of this.

Please also pray that Jesus will come alive and be tangible in our team, especially when working alongside the different craftsmen coming to Bodenseehof.

This spring, we added some seating accommodations to the new furnishings in our entrance area. Our guests can now take a break around our little birch forest or kick their heels up on our new wooden bench. The best way to personally experience it is to drop by and try it out you are more than welcome!
