2 Today Readings: Isaiah 61:1 3 1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. 1 Peter 3: Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened. 15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. 17 It is better, if it is God s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. 18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, 19 through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison 20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at God s right hand with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him. John 14: If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him. 22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world? 23 Jesus replied, If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. 25 All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. As today is the 5th Sunday of the month, there is no Kid s Church, so let s ALL worship together throughout the service. Kid s Church will resume next week. Page 2

Matthew 28:19 May 29, 2011 LUTHERANISM 101 A New Member Class (and Current Member Class) to explore what we preach, teach, and believe at Hosanna, and as a part of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. 1Peter 3:15 says, Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. How does one get prepared to give an answer when someone asks about your faith, what you believe and why? LUTHERANISM 101 is a great review for our current members, and it s the route to joining our membership for those who are new to Hosanna and to the Lutheran understanding of the Christian faith. We will explore Luther s Small Catechism and the Bible as we discuss the things we believe, live, and practice as Lutheran Christians. What a great way to spice up your kiddos summer spend nine weeks (choose your days and weeks) in a safe and caring environment where the love of Jesus shines through in all we do! Grandmaster Han s Martial Arts of Arizona Coming now to Hosanna Come join the Christian Martial Arts group to begin teaching at Hosanna. The group is founded on and teaches Christian principles through the teaching of tae kwon do. This is an awesome way to gain fitness in both body and soul and a great way for us to further reach out to the community around us as many new faces will be coming to our campus. The pertinent details: Classes will be from 5:00 6:00 p.m. on Mondays starting June 6 th. Cost is $45 per student per month. (First month is $90 which includes the first month of lessons and the uniform.)
