FUMC STAFF --- Dennis Bailey, Pastor ( ) pastor.dennis52@gmail.com Suzanne Olberding, Director of Ministries and Financial Secretary Nina Akin, Administrative Assistant Michelle Caltrider, Custodian Jason Bush, Youth Coordinator Worship Themes September 4 Luke 14:25-30 Count the Cost of Following Jesus helps us to understand that there is a cost to follow him. Are you willing to give up all things for him? Are you able to stand against the whole world in order to be faithful? Even to members of your own household? September 11 Luke 15:1-7 The Joy of Repentance Jesus eats and drinks with the sinners and the church people make fun of him. Jesus tells them a parable about a shepherd finding a lost sheep and the joy of the shepherd in the finding. There is joy in heaven when we turn to God as our source of treasure and life. September 18 Luke 14:7-11 A Live of Humility Jesus set the example in His life of humility. His leadership, his daily living, and his serving to all around him was always characterized in seeing others as more important than himself. This characteristic is crucial in our lives as disciples. September 25 Luke 16:19-31 The Sin of Not Noticing This parable of the Rich man and Lazarus helps us to understand the danger of living a life of self absorption. This life has a tendency to keep us from noticing anyone else s need but our own. Are you in the danger zone? This is a very important aspect of our relationship to God.

(2 Corinthians 5:20a) Did you know that you are an ambassador of Jesus Christ into the world around you? Former Ohio Congressman Tony Hall urges political leaders from both parties to bring their faith to the office and let it be a part of who they are in public even as politicians. Hall encourages political leaders to be ambassadors of the ultimate kind. He inspires them through a true story of when he came to an Islamic country and was greeted by the U.S. Ambassador to that country and told to be careful to not talk about his faith with the Muslim leader. But when he arrived at the Muslim leader s office he was asked why he had come to his country. Congressman Hall said, I would like our country to be friends and I would like you to come with me to the National Prayer Breakfast, in the name of Jesus. The Muslim leader got very excited and said, This is remarkable. You have come all this way to be my friend and to talk with me about Jesus. That is wonderful. My mother used to talk with me about Jesus when I was a child. We should talk about Jesus more often. He then turned to the U.S. Ambassador and said, Why don t you talk about Jesus? Let s remember these loved ones in our prayers: Glenn Lockhart & Rosemary Niceswanger You are an ambassador to the people around you. Do they know that you have the good news of Jesus in your life? Let s live as ambassadors for Christ! Peace unto you..pastor Dennis
3 Sunday School, UM Kids, & Youth News Grief Bible Study September starts the fun! Everything is starting for the new school year. Here is what we have planned: Sunday School will begin Sept. 18th at 9:15 A.M. with Rally Day. This year s theme is American Ninja Warrior. The kids will have a great time with obstacle races. Kids will want to wear appropriate clothes. Sunday School is such an important part of your child s walk in faith. We hope you make Sunday School a priority. And while you re up anyway, would you also consider teaching a class of kids so they learn about Jesus and the love He has for them? Who better to teach than the parents of the kids? We have grade levels that need a teacher and time to begin is fast approaching. Our church needs your help. Please call Suzi! The Pre-school and the Café (6-7-8) will have new curriculums that are video based. It will be fun for the students and will provide easy to learn visual information. Many class lesson plans are now built around videos, as this generation are visual learners. It is Suzi s dream to have flat screen smart TVs in every classroom to keep up with this trend. UM Kids will begin Sept. 21st from 3:30 5:00 P.M. Please sign up prior to the start so Suzi can arrange transportation from school to church. It will be a good time for the children with treats after school, a lesson and then games. It will be held on regular dismissal days only! Mini-Methodists (Preschool-Kindergarten) will start in October. It will be 5:30-6:30p.m. but the day of the week is yet to be determined. Call Suzi to sign your child up! Duke s class will start for adults and Duke said he has already made plans! Come be a part of Duke s class. Youth group will begin September 14th. Jr. High youths meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoons with a shared meal with Sr. High from 6:30 to 7:00. Sr. High then takes off from there and goes until 8. How s that for a lot of things going on for our young people!!!... grief is not a crisis of faith, it is a crisis of the heart. When we grieve, generally it s not our faith that s broken, it s our heart. What I ve learned about grief is a fundamental truth of life and death: we must grieve in order to live. says Julie Yarbrough, author, as part of her Beyond the Broken Heart: A Journey Through Grief Bible Study. How do you understand grief when your heart is broken by the death of a loved one? To survive and live forward, those who grieve must find answers. Beyond the Broken Heart is a support group for those who are grieving the death of a loved one and are in need of a community to share the loneliness of grief. Scriptural wisdom will be used to explore the issues of grief and offer spiritual encouragement for a life of renewed hope and joy. The group will also offer some specific coping strategies to guide the way back to fullness of life. If you are grieving the death of a loved one, please join us on the journey through grief. Gwen Hoffmann will be anchoring this Bible study and will be using videos and the book by Julie Yarbrough. This study will be Monday evenings from Sept. 12th through October 31st, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Conference room across from the nursery. Each week of the 7 week study is an independent topic so attend one or attend them all. It sounds so interesting and healing. Don t you want to attend? Contact Suzi at the church if you are interested Meetings Coming up: ->Friends Breakfast, Thurs., Sept. 1st, 9:30 a.m. at the Family Table. -> Meet you in Sunday School. Starts Sept. 18th at 9:15. All ages! -> UMW Annual SW District meeting - Sept. 24th at Denison. Call Jewel for ride. Program will be presented by Becky Tipton and the hostess will be Sue Van Dyke. UMW is open to the women of our church. Ellen s family is hosting the event and will be here to share in the good times. Happy Birthday, Ellen! Just in case you thought your prayers didn t matter From Sue Prior Just want to thank people for their love, concern, prayers and faith in God. I am doing my best, taking Chemo and adjusting to them well. I am on prayer chains all over the US. Makes me feel good knowing there are many praying for me who do not know me. They are in my Army a few in Fort Dodge and many others in churches in Iowa, Arizona, NY, Florida, Texas, Virginia, Nebraska, California, Alabama, and Missouri. I was told they pray for my comfort and for miracles and they pray after talking to me after Chemo. It helps my attitude. I feel they are fighting for me. I AM TOO. Don is right beside me and we are a team. Again, thanks and God bless. I am NOT afraid and don't cry unless someone else does Could you help fold the hard copy Messenger? Tom & Sharon Duff are new grandparents to Wesson William. Parents are Andrew and Paula Duff. Congratulations! Things to look forward to in September: Prayer pals and other prayer groups starting. Small groups will begin. Look for a small group that would interest you! Pastor Bailey will be starting a group for those who wish to join or find out more about our church. Check out the bulletins and website for more information as definitive plans are made. We are asking for help for one afternoon towards the end of every month. We need four or five people who could meet at church to fold, sticky-tab, and label newsletters. During the labeling, wouldn t it be good if we prayed over each name as we put on the label! Interested? Call Nina at to become a Messenger Magician! We will call ourselves the M&M group and every time we meet, we will have M&M s for our treat!
6 The Heavenly Bound Book Club is inviting you to come join the discussion and the fun we have every month. The September dates are Tuesday the 20 th, at 11:00 AM at Queen Beans or come Thursday, the 22 nd at noon at Queen Beans. What s more, his approach to disrupting your life and discrediting your faith isn t general or generic, not a onesize-fits-all. It s specific. Personalized. Targeted. FerVent is your chance to strike back. Each chapter will guide you in crafting prayer strategies that hit the enemy where it hurts, letting him know you re on to him and that you won t back down.
