1 August Newsletter Dear Church Family, August is upon us! Thank God for a blessed summer. Since summer began, we have continued our ongoing ministries, held Vacation Bible School and a Community Block Party, and the students went to camp in North Carolina. We sent a mission team to Hagerstown, Maryland, two mission teams to Peru, and two to Moldova in our ongoing partnerships. With school starting back we have move-up Sunday for children as well as AWANA Kickoff coming up soon. On Sunday, August 12 th we will have a Back To School Blessing. We will have a special time of prayer for all of our children and students as they prepare to go back to school. Our theme for the upcoming Church Year is Renewed by the Faithfulness of God. Lamentations 3:22-24 Because of the Lord s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness! I say, The Lord is my portion, therefore I will put my hope in him. Part of the focus will be the Annual Bible Fellowship development time on Saturday, August 25 th from 8-1 PM. If you serve in any capacity in this ministry, you are highly encouraged to attend. Pastor Mark and I have some very important areas of emphasis we want to work on in the coming year with the Adults. Pastor Brandon will lead the Student Ministry area along with the Student Leadership Team, and Crystal Reynolds will lead the Sprouts Ministry time. Please make it a priority to be a part of this. As part of the Renewed theme, we will incorporate and further develop Pray-Care-Share throughout all of our ministries. Look for more to come on this. All of us stand in continual need of renewal as individuals, and we certainly need it as a church. Life is not a direct path to our destination. The path tends to be filled with ups and downs and twists and turns. Through all of it God is faithful to us and his mercies are new every morning. As we seek continued renewal we have the privilege of growing in our relationships with God and one another. I love you and count it a great privilege to serve as your pastor. Because of Jesus, Pastor Seth MARCH 2018 NEWSLETTER Page 2 Upcoming Events Page 3 Children s Ministry Page 4 Kids on Mission Mission Friends Music Ministry Page 5 Vine Ministry Page 6 Missions Page 7 Missions Page 8 Men s Ministry Page 9 Fellowship Church Picnic Page 10 Trail Life & Young At Heart Page 11 Birthdays Page 12 New Members Connect With Us at CLBC

4 Come Sing His Praises Kids on Mission August is a busy month for our children on Sunday evenings. Children will learn how missionaries The Lovelaces and their 10 children tell others about Jesus in St. Louis MO. From helping homeless families, to conducting Vacation Bible School in the park, to dressing up to act out Bible stories, the Lovelaces and the Amazing Love Community Church work to share God s love throughout the community. Christmas arrives a few months early as Kids on Mission/Mission Friends will be collecting school supplies that will be shared with missionaries in a near by state. Finally, children will host another Pancakes with Missionaries night August 12th in the FLC, Banquet Room beginning at 5-6:15 pm as a way to say thank you to a special church family. Psalm 98:1 Sing a new song to the Lord, for He has performed wonders; His right hand and holy arm have won him victory. Summer is a great time to get connected with the Choir. INSIGHT INTO MOLDOVA MISSIONS By Jessica Krigbaum Now that I'm finally back home and catching up on sleep. I just wanted to post about my amazing trip to Moldova. I decided well over 6 months ago that I would go on my first international mission trip with my church. Even though I was very anxious to travel to the other side of the world, far from home, not knowing how to communicate with the people. I can't believe that I'm already back home and the trip is over. The similarities and differences to home that I observed while being on the other side of the world only confirmed to me that our God is the master creator of all! It was amazing to me how in ten short days I fell in love with the culture and people of Moldova. I learned that teaching children regardless of their language or where they come from, are loving honest, carefree and forgiving. Not only did I connect with the people I met in Moldova, but I also grew close to my other team mates. The laughs and moments that we shared, I will forever treasure. Most of my team was made up of middle/ high school students and I was inspired daily by their devotion to God and willingness to serve at such young ages. While I'm still trying to process/ reflect on all that I experienced, I do know that I serve a big God that can take a middle school teacher from West Virginia and push her to experience more than she ever imagined! Praying that God calls me back next year to serve the wonderful people of Moldova.

10 With the new school year, starts a new year of Trail Life. Troop WV-1454 is hoping to grow in We are excited about the coming year and we have had several new families contact us about joining our troop. For those that are not familiar with Trail Life USA and Troop WV-1454, here are few highlights. Trail Life USA was formed in 2013 after the Boy Scouts of America decided to allow youth of any sexual orientation to join. Several former BSA leaders started Trail Life as an overtly Christian alternative to Scouting. Troop WV-1454 was started at Cross Lanes Baptist in We were one of the first troops to form and our troop number refers to Psalm 145:4. Boys participate in camping, hiking, bowling, swimming, pine car races, day camps, and more. If you would like more information about how your school-aged son (K-12) can be part of our troop, please join us at our annual kick-off meeting on Thursday, September 6. Lastly, we are in desperate need of Trail Guides (adult leaders) for three of our patrols. We need leaders for Hawks (2nd-3rd grade), Mountain Lions (4th-5th grade), and Navigators (6th-8th grade). Please contact James Hiser or Mindy Ilar if you are interested in volunteering for one of these positions. Walk Worthy The YAH will resume their monthly luncheon at Cross Lanes Christian School on Thursday, September 13th. Meet at the church at 10:30 am to ride on the van or carpool. There will be singing and a message by a local pastor, then a great lunch with a side of fellowship. We are usually back to church by 1:00 pm. August 16th YAH will meet at Diehl s Family Restaurant in Nitro at 11:30 am. Young-at-Heart Mission Statement The Young-at-Heart Ministry exists to gather senior adults for fellowship, to encourage and minister to one another, and be on-mission for Jesus Christ.
