1 A Weekly Newspaper Issue 26/ Special Tele Lumiere 19th & Noursat 6th Anniversary Tele Lumiere, Jesus Last Commandment 19 years passed and Tele Lumiere is carrying Jesus commandments, the greatest is love, to the entire world. He wanted that all hearts be filled with that love. Tele Lumiere proclaims love that is its goal. Evangelization doesn t mean changing the others beliefs, ideas and religion. Evangelization in English means the Good News. Is there any greater Good News than love?! 19 years passed and Tele Lumiere is witnessing love through: 1- A hard work that resulted in a category of committed and persevering believers. 2- Learning love from the messages and experiences it transmits to everybody. 3- Tele Lumiere and Noursat contributed to the progress of the ecumenical work through the Church communities desire to make joint activities 4- Tele Lumiere heals the spirit of each sick on all dimensions. People suffering from illnesses in their body are consoled whereas those having spiritual pains are healed. 5- During 19 years, it confronted strongly all devastating currents, heresies and extremist ideologies, the culture of magic, fanaticism and extremism. 6- Tele Lumiere supported coexistence in all nations because it believes in the human being regardless his religion. He is created in the image and likeness of God. All human beings are equal before God. 7- Tele Lumiere created a civilized and educational climate by distinction as well as a spiritual one. 8- Tele Lumiere activated the work of the choirs of different denominations. Consequently, many choirs emerged in Lebanon and abroad. It also imposed a certain level to the high lyrics, music and art. 9- The phenomenon of producing video clips emerged strongly and helps people to pray more. It permitted that the creator added His touches to the human work including the arts of filming and introducing the element of nature and beauty to the image. 10- Tele Lumiere created a climate for freedom and democracy through accepting the others who are different from us. Our programs are characterized by the freedom of expression, thinking and education and sticking to the fact that others are also free. These ten out of many achievements made by Tele Lumiere are always renewed in the context of the Ten Commandments. This TV station is working on spreading them all over the globe responding to Jesus last commandment Go to all people everywhere and make them my disciples (Mark 17/15) With Tele Lumiere, Noursat and all its ramifications in the near future, our journey reaches every part of the world to proclaim the Good News, to strengthen love in hearts, sow peace in the souls and acclaim the name of Jesus. 2 The 19th Pentecost 19 years passed like a dream. Tele Lumiere remains a light that is shining in the media world. It matured with its satellite Noursat that was launched since 6 years. Each year on the Pentecost, the Holy Spirit comes upon it. It renews it and gives it the strength to begin a new year of everlasting giving. Its only aim resides in spreading in each part of the world faith and love. For long years, Tele Lumiere and its satellite Noursat presented their best programs despite their limited capacities. A persevering team which has answered the God s call to proclaim His message is working hard in this TV station with great love, honesty and as a united strong family. A Media City, a dream coming true Achieving the building of a new Media City is the biggest dream. It sees the light when the foundation stone was laid last October 1 st in Fatka. Eastern patriarchs, a representative of the apostolic Nuncio, representatives of the presidency and premiership, spiritual and civil official figures, popular crowds and the family of Tele Lumiere and Noursat attended this important event. The project is 25 thousand m 2 and includes studios for filming and production, technical centers, and media and program offices. New satellites will be launched such as: Nour Al Chabab, Nour Al Sharq; 2 radios; a newspaper; a magazine and an IPTV. A memorial photo of the General Assembly The Catholic patriarchs The Church follows up Tele Lumiere Tele Lumiere and its satellite Noursat are always pioneers in the Christian media field. They constantly seek to spread the message of peace and love in Lebanon and all over the world. The Church has always attached great importance to this TV station since its establishment. This growing interest emerged in the Lebanese session that the General Assembly of Catholic patriarchs and bishops in Lebanon held at the patriarchal residence in Bkerki. Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir presided over this meeting discussing Tele Lumiere s distinctive role. The General Assembly supported morally and financially again this media achievement serving the Good News and the people of God, especially that the Universal Church generally and the Vatican particularly attach great significance to the Christian mass media, the means of achieving evangelization. Seven grids always new The fall, summer, winter, spring, Nativity, Resurrection and the Pentecost are seven grids issued annually by Tele Lumiere. Programs are always new and varied from a grid to another. Each one consists of 80 religious, scientific, medical, cultural, national, literary, social, environmental and touristy weekly and daily programs. Don t forget the programs dedicated to the youth and children, documentaries and the liturgical ceremonies. In addition, Tele Lumiere broadcast interviews tackling bold themes for the first time such as The universe reveals His glory with Fr. George Rahme presenting serious problems of the universe, Where are you?! with Dr. Claudia Abi Nader highlighting the woman activities in different domains, Conflict and loss with Roula Elia emphasizing the widespread most important social problems such as the mixed marriage, elopement, drugs, the handicapped and others. The church challenges with Charbel Zwein dealing with many challenges that the church is facing including the foreign workers, the political charter and missions. 3 Tele Lumiere s Production Despite all financial and technical challenges, a qualitative shift is obvious in Tele Lumiere s production of some religious dramas. It achieved great success especially with the cooperation of elite of Lebanese actors. The Christ and the Traders of the Temple is a drama written by Dr. Charbel Boutros who remained loyal to the Gospel. The content matches with the form thanks to the director Tony Nehme who succeeded in adding the suitable aspects to the historical events. The drama tells the story of Jesus driving out the traders who used the Lord s temple to carry their affairs. The drama embodied as well many stories mentioned in the Bible such as: the widow s mite, the healing of a man born blind, the healing of the crippled man, the humped woman, Barabbas, and Zach the tithe collector The team work during the filming of A Gift from Heaven drama The drama coulisses The director of A Gift from Heaven drama Joseph Bassili and the hero Sacha Koubersy Michel Hourany in A Nation s Cause drama A Gift from Heaven is a religious spectacular and musical drama about Christmas. It was filmed in a creative way that corresponds to Christmas time. It is a big challenge in a period when various dramas are produced. The story is composed by Antoinette Maaz and extracted from the merchant of matchsticks. It embodies the situation of the streets children and their suffering on Christmas evening when they need urgently someone to take good care of them. Talented children and amateurs are the heroes of this drama. They appear for the first time in this musical, and show their acting skills. Then, the director Joseph Bassili faced a big challenge and preferred that professional actors don t participate in this spectacular drama because these children have exceptional talents. A Nation s Cause is a drama of 6 episodes composed by the writer Gebran Daher and directed by George Ghayad. It tackles with courage the issue of the missing people and detainees and the marriage of two persons of different religions. It tries to find the suitable solution for a case that becomes as important as the nation in order to build a homeland based on faith and not on fanaticism An important artistic cultural program reveals arts and the most important artists, writers, musicians in various historic periods. A distinctive team of young students added their modern creative spirit in this program that is well-known for its wonderful preparation by Antoinette Maaz and the professional touches of the director Joseph Bassili. Filming directed by Georges Ghayad A scene of A Nation s Cause drama Religious ceremonies Tele Lumiere broadcast ceremonies from different countries all around the world: Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Jerusalem, U.S.A and Rome It followed up all occasions of Eastern and Western rites, at Christmas as well as Resurrection. 4 Go to all the people everywhere Interviews with Lebanese families in U.S.A. World Youth Day in Australia Padre Pio Convent at Giovanni Rotondo, Italy Meeting the Lebanese community in Mexico Visiting all areas of the world, Tele Lumiere is responding to the Lord s commandment of spreading the Good News everywhere. Last year, it organized trips to new countries, made surveys and filmed various churches and convents. In U.S.A, it met the Lebanese and Arabic parishes, made interviews and filmed exclusive documentaries in religious sites. Following the footsteps of the Eastern Christians who moved from their warm homelands to the emigration countries, Noursat traveled to Mexico and produced exclusive programs. In Australia, Tele Lumiere participated in 2008 World Youth Day. It covered all activities of the Pope, and followed up the Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir who conducted a visit to the Lebanese parishes. In addition, he participated in the first Maronite symposium The church of New Horizons for the New Generations. In Sweden, Tele Lumiere and Noursat organized two concerts in which the singer Abir Nehme performed with the pianist Mark Abou Naoum. In Italy, Tele Lumiere went on a pilgrimage to the Franciscan sacred sites: Padre Pio, St Michael Convent and Grotto, St Francis Convent, St Clara, St Anthony of Padua, the Eucharistic Miracle, without forgetting St Rita Convent in Cascia and the Basilica of St Mark the Evangelist in Venice. Following the steps of St Paul the Apostle, it traveled to Syria and visited the holy sites, a turning point in St Paul s life: the Vision Convent in Tal Kawkab, the Shrine Church, the grotto where St Paul hided, Ananias Church and the Wall Church. Documentaries about these stops were prepared. It filmed many documentaries about Syrian convents: Our Lady of Saydnaya, St Takla Maaloula, St Maron Brad, St James the Dismembered. In Dubai, several concerts and documentaries about churches were made. Above all, Tele Lumiere followed, through voice and image, Pope Benedict s pilgrimage to Jordan. A set of interviews were filmed, in addition to documentaries reflecting the important religious background of the Christian history. 5 A Perfume of Holiness at Tele Lumiere I will spend my Heaven doing Good on earth. St Therese of the Child Jesus fulfilled her promise to send upon Lebanon and Tele Lumiere all the Lord s graces. In the same journey of holiness, her parents visited last January this institution to bless its family that was built on the same spirituality of Louis and Zelie Martin. Tele Lumiere welcomed warmly these saints coming from Lisieux to embrace the Lebanese saints. After the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the relic of the Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin were moved to the TV church. They remained there to sow their graces in the hearts of the employees and bless this family encouraging it to continue its mission of spreading the Good News everywhere in the world. Graces are still falling upon Tele Lumiere which welcomes recently the relics of St Anthony of Padua and St Theresa of Avila, the Teacher of the Church and the founder of the Carmel. The God s word nurtures the spirit, and sports nurture the body. We need both kinds of nutriment. Therefore, Tele Lumiere is committed to attach great importance to both aspects in order to fulfill perfectly its mission. In July 2008 and for the second consecutive year, Tele Lumiere accepted the invitation of the Austrian Football Federation and FIFA office to participate in its 23 rd session for youth under 17 years old in Austria. The same team led by the coach Jihad Abi Nakhoul and his assistant Michel Trad participated late at July 2008 in the International Session for Youth in Spain. Moreover, in order to revive the traditional evenings, Tele Lumiere organized a three- day folk festival Lebanon the festival in September 2008 at the Roman Stadium Zouk Mikael. Lebanese villages performed in folk dancing scenes, zajal and dabke. They revived these traditional nights with magnificent happy occasions. 6 Tele Lumiere is united in solidarity with the Iraqi Christians and Gaza residents Defending the right to a decent life, and condemning the crimes against the Christians in Iraq, and breaches in Gaza Strip, Tele Lumiere was united in solidarity with them. It is the case of each Christian, rather each human being regardless his religion or denomination. Life is a right, the religious affiliation and the freedom of belief is so. Each human being should respect this charter. Consequently, Tele Lumiere followed up their news during 24 hours in the newscast and exclusive programs. As well, it produced clips and presented with its satellite informative flashes in order to achieve reconciliation and bring back communication. That s how the humanity will be saved from violence, and all kinds of persecutions. Each distortion of the human being affects the face of God whose greatest commandment is love and reconciliation with our brothers in humanity. Tele Lumiere participated in important World Conferences Tele Lumiere was always present on the world arena. It participated in many conferences and achieved each time greater success. In October 2008, Tele Lumiere s delegate, the Programs Director Marie- Therese Kreidy participated in the conference Media Is Peace in Cape Town South Africa. It aims at promoting the role of media in bringing peace to the entire world. In November 2008, she attended the conference that was held in Rome by the World Catholic Association for Communications SIGNIS to mark its 80 th Anniversary. The attendance discussed the crucial role of the Christian media to spread the Good News all around the world. On the sidelines of the Congress, Tele Lumiere s representative, the Programs Director, Marie- Therese Kreidy signed a contract with H2ONews Agency to have the right to broadcast exclusively, the Catholic Church events and the Eastern Christian news. In addition, Tele Lumiere proved itself on the media arena in Lebanon, and the entire world, not only as a religious, human and cultural TV station, but also as a free platform and an effective decision-maker in the world of media, arts and cinema. After the IEMMY Award in New York, Berlin, Italy, Tehran, Carthage, Romania and other big festivals. In May 2008, Tele Lumiere participated in Cannes Festival through its membership in the ecumenical jury represented by the TV Programs Director Marie- Therese Kreidy. In February 2009, Tele Lumiere organized jointly with CAMECT representing all the Eastern Christians in U.S.A, an international conference Christianity in the Middle East: Ancient Yet Ever New. It was hosted by St Thomas the Apostle Chaldean diocese in the American district Michigan. Eastern Christians of different denominations gathered, in addition to Muslims, in order to enhance dialogue. The conference aimed at discussing the Christian contribution in the Middle East, the cradle of Christianity, its role in spreading interreligious dialogue, opening to others and bringing the message of peace. Don t forget the important role of the Christian media. The TV station was represented by Tele Lumiere chairman of the board Bishop Roland Abou Jaoude, Tele Lumiere Director General and Noursat chairman of the board Jacques Kallassi, the Executive Director Raymond Nader Tele Lumiere Programs Director Marie- Therese Kreidy. In May 2009, Tele Lumiere was invited to participate in a workshop Journalists and the Civil Peace held by the Symposium of Development, Culture and Dialogue. The audience encompassed Lebanese, Palestinian, Iraqi and Egyptian journalists. They discussed the journalist s role in making peace and the challenges that he faces when he is doing his job starting from the Lebanese, Palestinian and Iraqi experiences. 7 Marie Therese Kreidy signing a contract with H2O News Agency Journalists from Tele Lumiere during the symposium Journalists and the Civil Peace This coming June, Tele Lumiere participates in Zlin International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Czech Republic. The ecumenical jury will be presided by Tele Lumiere Programs Director Marie- Therese Kreidy during this congress. It is organized by SIGNIS and Interfilm and aims at showing the children and youth creativity in directing films based on the Gospel. In addition, the TV station will participate next October in a congress Media for a Culture of Peace: the Children s Rights, Tomorrow s Promise in Chiang Mai- Thailand. SIGNIS aimed through this congress at highlighting the urgent need to promote the children s rights and the culture of peace through media. It launches the campaign the Children s Rights: Tomorrow s Promise. Lebanese and Eastern Children will make a hand-print with color paints on handkerchiefs. They will be collected within a 5-meter flag holding expressions claiming their rights and impressive drawings to be sent to Thailand. They will be displayed close to the flags coming from various parts of the globe. Lebanese Children participate in the Congress Children Rights, Tomorrow s Promise About the future Tele Lumiere is planning to produce many various programs and video clips, establish a special recording studio, and renovate the Son s Studio so that it contains supposedly 15 programs at the same time. As well, it is seeking to erect memorials of Mother Theresa, and President Charles Helo in different Lebanese areas and a sculpture of the late Pope John-Paul II on Nahr El Kalb rocks. It designed bookmarks holding slogans, meditations, recommendations and prayers to the entire world. The website will be soon renovated.
