P a u l s U n i t e d M e t h o d i s t C h u r c h John 20:1-10 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him. 3 Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. 4 The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, 7 and the cloth that had been on Jesus head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples returned to their homes. Well Easter is right around the corner and so far during the Lent season we have been in the book of John for the most part. As we continue down the road to the Cross, are there areas of your life that you feel alone, where you feel that you are separated from God? Last month in John 3:1-21, the story of Nicademus we have one of the best known scriptures in all the world. We see the scripture at all the major sporting events, on billboards, bookmarks, almost everywhere we look, John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." Have you taken the time to really understand how important this is in our lives as Christians? We often just take it for granted that Jesus died on the cross to bring us closer to God and create a new relationship with our loving God. While that is true there is more to this message. It is also a challenge to all of us to share this good news with all those we come in contact with. It is the way we live our life, how we treat people, and most of all how we look at those we don't understand. At the core of this message is a message of LOVE. "God so LOVED the world that he gave his only Son." This message of love is how we should treat all those around us and all those people that we meet. I saw a message on a friends Facebook page a while back and this is what she said, "Our culture has accepted two huge lies. 2 From the What to Do in High Winds From The Wichita Eagle, March 14, 2014 The lingering polar vortex is getting tornado season off to a quiet start, but weather officials say they expect a surge of violent weather once the cold air finally retreats. That may not happen until mid-april, they say, but after that look out. We re off to a slow start here in March for tornadoes nationwide, said Paul Pastelok, head of longrange forecasting for AccuWeather. At some point, he said, you have to pay for it. AccuWeather officials expect a spike in violent weather around the nation in May and June. While May is historically the most active month for tornadoes, Pastelok said he expects the month to be even more active than normal. Gusting winds can bring down trees, power lines and signs and turn unsecured objects into dangerous projectiles. Below are tips for staying safe during high wind warnings. If you are caught outside during high winds: Take cover next to a building or under a secure shelter. Stand clear of roadways or train tracks, as a gust may blow you into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Use handrails where available and avoid elevated areas such as roofs. In the event of a downed power line: Report downed lines to your local utility emergency center and to the police. Avoid anything that may be touching downed lines, including vehicles or tree branches. If a line falls on your car, stay inside the vehicle. Do not touch any part of the metal frame of your vehicle. Honk your horn, roll down the window and warn anyone who may approach of the danger. Ask someone to call the police. Do not exit the car until help arrives, unless it catches fire. To exit, open the door, but do not step out. Jump without touching any of the metal portions of the car's exterior, and quickly get safe ground. If you are driving: Keep both hands on the wheel and slow down. Watch for objects blowing across the roadway and into your path. Keep a safe distance from cars in adjacent lanes, as strong gusts could push a car outside its lane of travel. Take extra care in a high-profile vehicle such as trucks, vans, SUVs, or when towing a trailer, as these are more prone to being pushed or flipped by high wind gusts. If winds are severe enough to prevent safe driving, safely pull over onto the shoulder of the road and stop, making sure you are away from trees or other tall objects that could fall onto your vehicle. It was decided to design and distribute bookmarks at the Easter Service again this year. Plastic sleeves will need to be ordered. Application was made requesting that St. Paul s be one of the churches receiving help from college students through the conference for Bible School. No word has been received on that yet. There was discussion on how to let our church members know when they don t attend that they are missed. Bulletins along with a note will be mailed to them on the following Monday. Concern about the lack of Greeters at the back entrance doors has been expressed many times. A list of members who would possible do this was compiled. It is hoped to have this in place by Palm Sunday. Vernon Koerner will be the contact person. PLEASE when contacted, be receptive to being a part of this important ministry. Easter will soon be here and we encourage everyone to invite friends and neighbors to join in the Holy Week Services. Seder Meal will be held on Palm Sunday, April 13, at 6 pm. This will be a meal and Bible reading to help us to remember and celebrate the Passover in our Jewish heritage. Everyone from both St. Paul s and El Mesias are invited to attend. Children are welcome. Please let us know if you plan to attend, so that we will have an idea of how many people for which to prepare. Donations Confirmation Class will begin on Sunday, April 27 during the Sunday School time from 9:30 to 10:30 am for ages 6th grade through 12th grade. The class will meet in the 3rd floor game room. Currently it has 1,565,996 and needs 34,004 more Campbell s labels to purchase a new van. Our Newest Member St. Paul s congregation welcomedly received Delilah Nitcher as an Associate Member to St. Paul s on Sunday, March 10, An Associate Member is a person who maintains his/her membership in their home church but attend and participates in another. Delilah has been attending and has been involved at St. Paul s for many years. There will be a Children s Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday after worship (12:15). Donations of plastic eggs and wrapped candy would be gratefully appreciated! Donations can be placed in the church office or work room. If you would like to provide one or more lilies in memory of or in honor of someone, please notify the church office ( ) by Wednesday, April 16. Each pot of lilies will be beautifully wrapped. Cost of each lily is $12.00 Hurry now to get your tickets for the Hat Off To Spring English Tea. Seating is limited. Come and enjoy the afternoon of an Old English Tea. Hats and gloves are welcomed but are not a necessity. There will be a silent auction the day of the tea.
