Robes are stored in the Sacristy cabinet behind the door (small room in the front of the church to the left of the altar). Please wear your nametag and no gum chewing. Lighting Candles Ask usher or a parent to light candle lighter approximately five minutes before service. Candle lighter is by the sound booth in the back of the Sanctuary. Light the Christ Candle by the Baptismal font. Walk to the front and center of altar and pause for a moment. Light both altar candles. Light the larger candle on the candle stands on the west side and in the back (by the sound booth) of Sanctuary. Be seated in chair in the front row next to the Pastor s chair. Put candle lighter under the chairs where you are sitting, in the front row by the pastors. Offering After the offering is collected the pianist will play the offertory song. At the beginning of the song, go to the front and center of church, collect offering baskets from the usher, give the baskets to the pastor at the altar, and then be seated. Baptism Stand by Pastor with candle lighter (not lit). Pastor will direct you as to what to do. Extinguishing Candles The pastor will tell you when to extinguish the candles. Go to the front and center of the altar, pause for a moment, and extinguish the candles. Do not push down hard on the wick. Join the pastor in the front of the church, facing the altar. Walk out with the pastor(s).
2 Lord of Life Lutheran Church Communion Setup & Cleanup Communion Setup - Intinction Arrive approximately minutes early to do setup. Chalices, patens, wine, grape juice and cloths are kept in the Sacristy (small room on the west side of the altar). Communion bread can be found in the freezer in the kitchen. If bread is frozen, microwave in one-minute intervals until thawed. Place six rounds of bread on one paten. If attendance is larger, set two patens with four rounds of bread each. Fill eight chalices, slightly more than half full, four with wine and four with grape juice. Put wine in chalice with dark interior and grape juice in chalice with light interior. Place all chalices and patens of bread on the tables behind the altar. All items are to be covered with white cloths. If you need to use communion wafers instead of bread, please set up two plates of wafers. Communion Setup Trays & Cups Arrive approximately 30 minutes early to do setup. Trays, cups, patens, wine, grape juice and cloths are kept in the Sacristy (small room on the west side of the altar). Communion bread can be found in the freezer in the kitchen or fellowship hall. If bread is frozen, microwave in one-minute intervals until thawed. Place four or five rounds of bread on one paten. If attendance is larger, set two patens with four rounds of bread each. Fill six trays with wine and grape juice using plastic dispensers (drawer in Sacristy). Fill the innermost circle and half of the next circle with grape juice, and fill the remaining cups with wine. Place all trays and patens of bread on the tables behind the altar. All items are to be covered with white cloths. If you need to use communion wafers instead of bread, please set up two plates of wafers. Communion Cleanup After last communion service of the day, pour the wine and grape juice remaining in the drain in the Sacristy. Small pieces of bread can be thrown outside for the birds. Large (1/4 round or larger) pieces of bread can be placed in plastic bag and returned to freezer. Wash all chalices and patens and return to cupboards. Trays/cups Pour remaining wine and grape juice in the drain in the Sacristy. All cups must be sanitized using the sanitizer/dishwasher in the kitchen. Return cups and trays to the Sacristy.
3 Lord of Life Lutheran Church Communion Server Communion Server After the pastor has finished giving instructions for communion to the congregation, walk to the left side of the altar. The pastors will serve communion to communion servers first. After receiving communion, proceed behind the altar, take bread or wine, and proceed to your serving station. When serving bread, break a small piece of bread from the loaf large enough to dip in the chalice (but not too large) and say, The body of Christ broken for you. Say a blessing for children not receiving communion; e.g., May the Lord Jesus bless you and keep you. When serving wine/grape juice (intinction), hold both chalices at waist level as people dip bread in the wine or grape juice and say, The blood of Christ shed for you. When serving wine/grape juice using cups, hold one tray and say, The blood of Christ shed for you as people take the cup. Turn the tray as needed. Be aware of those who may be unable to walk to the altar to receive communion. Pastor and assistants should go into the congregation to serve them.
4 Fellowship Host/Hostess Setup Be at church approximately one-half hour before worship to setup. Make 2 pitchers of lemonade or other beverage. The mix is in the tall cupboards by the window. Use the large blue plastic pitchers to mix; you can use the beverage dispensers (usually on the counter by the window) to dispense lemonade. Make coffee; coffeemaker instructions are taped on the counter next to coffeemaker. Make 1½ gallons regular coffee in one urn, and 1 gallon decaf in the urn with the orange handle. Be ready to make additional regular coffee if attendance is high. Put out foam cups, stir straws, creamer/sugar packets, etc. by the coffee. Put the treats on platters, on table. Put ceramic donations jar and napkins on table. Serving Fill small plastic cups about 2/3 with lemonade. If there are no plastic cups, use foam coffee cups. Refill trays of treats as needed. If you run out, check the freezer in fellowship hall for leftover treats. If treats are leftover after second service, place in freezer or leave covered on counter in kitchen. There should be freezer bags in a drawer in the kitchen, or use foil or plastic wrap in cupboard in kitchen. Clean up the area and wipe off tables so they are ready for the next group. Wash, dry and put away any dishes used. After washing beverage dispenser, please run clean water through spigot before drying. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!!
5 Coffee Maker Instructions Make certain green Ready light (far right) is illuminated. Remove brewing basket Place one bag of coffee per ½ gallon coffee in paper filter Use small filter for ½ gallon; use large filter for 1 & 1½ gallons Regular coffee is in gold bags, decaf in green bags. Place filter with coffee in brewing basket, then return brewing basket to slot in coffee maker. Set selector switch to ½, 1 or 1½ gallon. Turn warmer switch to On position. Press Start switch to begin brewing cycle. When brewing is completed, remove brewing basket, empty grounds into trash or composting canister, rinse basket and replace. Coffee can be dispensed from server or server can be moved to warming plate. Wait for green Ready light before starting another brewing cycle. When finished, turn warmer switch to Off position. Remove coffee server, unscrew top, empty and rinse entire inside of server. Do not immerse server in water. Do not unplug coffee maker.

Assign one usher to carry the offering forward to the acolyte during the offertory song. Communion Communion Service Four ushers (one for each section of the sanctuary) are needed to direct people forward to the communion stations. After the Service Remove the top sheet from the attendance clipboards and return the clipboard to the shelf in the back of the pew. Make sure there is one clipboard for each row. Place the used sheets in the office (INBOX is the top tray).
