1 January 2017 Messiah Lutheran Church And the word became flesh, and lived among us, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 Pastor s Message Inside this issue: Messiah Message/ 1 What s Happening 2 LWML News 2 Birthday/Anniversary 3 New Officers 3 Church Calendar 4 Serving in Worship 5 Noble Men 6 CIA 7 Dillons 8 Pastor Mallardi: Church Office: Cong. President: Paul Parish Life Chair: Hello All, Welcome to 2017! This year is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. In recognition of this we will be focusing on certain aspects of the Reformation this year. In our church services throughout this year, at the early service, we will be learning some of the hymns that Dr. Martin Luther wrote. Sure we all know A Mighty Fortress is our God but did you know that Dr. Luther wrote 37 hymns of which 9 are in our hymnal? Over the course of this year we will learn all nine of them! At every early service, the first hymn that we will sing will be one composed by Dr. Luther himself. Also this year, I will be using this newsletter article to look at different aspects of the reformation. So, as 2017 moves on and today becomes yesterday, I pray that we all learn something of and from the reformation and our foundation as Lutherans. Knowing that our Church is firmly established on the person and work of Christ alone, we will focus upon Him and His grace for us. As our church mission statement states, Christ Centered, Family Strong, Mission Minded, we are ever focused upon Jesus. May the Lord bless you in this New Year. Pastor Mallardi Office Secretary: Carrie Malusky
2 2 Happenings... Hays Area MOPS A Ministry of Messiah Lutheran Church We had a wonderful December with MOPS activities! We had an awesome time at the Frost Fest Parade and passed out over 600 fliers for MOPS and Messiah! Then, we had a terrific meeting on Dec. 10th with waffles, Christmas socks and a yarn activity that really helped each mom reflect on their 2016 year and relate to other mom s joys and struggles. What a true gift other mom s encouragement is! We will have our next MOPS meeting the second Saturday of January, the 14th. From 9:30 to 11:30 am. We will have a special guest speaker form the Hays Rec Center who will be focusing on nutrition and taking care of our physical bodies. Then, Thursday January 26th we will have a playdate at McDonalds playland from 10:30 noon. Also plan now for Family Fun Bowling on Saturday, February 25th from 3:30 to 5:30. Fee is $6.00 per person and includes shoes and 2 games each!! We are going to start offering the newsletter by starting in February. If you would like to receive it by , please let the office know. If not, you will continue to get it by regular mail. You can call the office or send your most current address to messiahsec@ruraltel.net.
