Travis St. Sherman, TX The Smoote-Gray Scholarship was established in 1986 by Gaston M. Gray as a memorial to his parents Gaston M. Gray and Mary Smoote Gray. He was raised in Grayson County during the hard times. His father was an old time country Baptist preacher who worked hard at his daily duties of earning a livelihood for his family and also at being a church preacher. At onetime this was very common although it has become rare now. These old preachers were dedicated to the true work and the true Word. This memorial fund is established for the purpose of aiding worthy and dedicated young Christian men who are not financially able to secure the schooling and training which would enable them to make maximum use of their potential as servants of God to prepare for the teaching and preaching of God s Word. REQUIREMENTS 1. Be financially lacking and needing financial aid 2. Be in good standing with a New Testament church of the like faith as First Baptist Church Sherman 3. Be worthy and dedicated a. Share conversion experience b. Share call to ministry c. Current evidences of calling and purpose 4. Be a Christian male 5. Have academic potential to be a servant of God 6. Have dedicated themselves to preparing for teaching and preaching of God s word 7. Good character references 8. Fields of service: Pastoral, Evangelism, Missionary 9. Accepted to seminary (or pending) and any award would be contingent up on acceptance 10. Local and county are given preference 11. Applicant to be willing to have a personal interview 12.
