SAINTLY NEWS Published by All Saints Episcopal Church...to spread the love of God to all by what we do and say Wayne Road at Groometown Road, Greensboro, North Carolina All Good Things must end... We know that all good things must end and so it is that on Sunday, May 31st, All the Saints at All Saints will say good-bye to Warren and Ayliffe. At 8:00 and 10:30 Warren will celebrate as usual at the two morning services. Following the second service all parishioners are invited to a special luncheon to honor Warren and wish him and Ayliffe good fortune as they embark on a new path together. Prior to the 31st, there will be the usual posters requesting that each of us sign-up to bring a favorite recipe for our luncheon. Also, a special notice will be sent to remind each of us of everything that will be happening at this important event. Be sure to mark Sunday, May 31st on your calendar and plan to be with us on that important day. On Sunday, June 7th we will welcome The Reverend Canon Michael Hunn, Diocesan Canon to the Ordinary, and the Deputy Transition Officer, Catherine Massey to All Saints. Canon Hunn and Catherine Massey are guiding the Vestry and the Search Committee through the transition process as we search for a new rector. On that Sunday morning, Canon Hunn will be the Celebrant and preacher at both the 8:00 and 10:30 services, and will join the congregation afterward for a light lunch in the Parish Hall. Following lunch he will speak to us about the transition priest and welcome our questions regarding the transition process (a process which could last as long as a year, during which time we will have the services of an interim rector, who we hope will be joining us early this summer.) This is a very important meeting and is the congregation s opportunity to learn what will be happening in the coming months as we search for a new rector. We hope you will make every effort to attend. Sue as new things then begin. Sue Starr, Vestry Missioner May

Page 2 from the Rector... Looking Back... As we break bread together this Easter season, I keep picturing those two disciples at the village inn near Emmaus, who had been walking along the road with Jesus most all that first Easter Day. You know Luke s story. ( ) The Risen Christ join them, listens care-fully, and then Twenty years ago, I was still back west exploring the idea of coming to North Carolina, and to Greensboro, where my father s family lived for some time before he headed to California to make a name for himself with the rest of the family following a few years later. That family tie, along with my own time at THAT OTHER University in North Carolina, had me wondering if the second half of my ordained ministry might find an expression here. How interesting it was to be told that All Saints is looking for a rector. After some visits and conversations, we began walking the road together. There is a fork just a little ways ahead of us, and we will go our somewhat separate ways come summer: me into the third half of my priesthood, and you into your next chapter. But all along the way there has been a Companion with us, whose company has guided, sustained, and supported our shared journey and a Companion whom I believe, has enjoyed our company. Looking back, I recognize his presence in so many ways, as I hope do you. What I can celebrate is the sure and certain hope of resurrection that lets me know how that companionship will be with us all no matter how many forks there are in the road ahead, no matter how many twists and turns we encounter. Whenever we allow ourselves to pause, to pray, to pay attention, and to break bread, we will recognize the living, loving God who is, and will ever be, among and alongside us. God s Peace be with you, People s Warden s Sidebar I am grateful to represent All Saints as a vestry member, especially this year as the people's warden. Historically, the junior warden has been responsible for the care and maintenance of building and grounds. Presently, Lou Pollock represents and until recently, Bob Hisamoto has represented this mission area. That allows me to be the people's warden with Ron Alexander, the rector's warden. As the people's warden, my intention is to "pay attention" to parishioners, your needs, thoughts and feelings, and to be an active listener. A second goal is to oversee each vestry mission area, making sure, missioners have the information and support they need to function well. In this period of transition, your vestry wants you to know what we know, as much as possible. Please continue to look for updates on the website, in Sunday announcements, all-church s, the newsletter--the many ways we communicate with you. On April 23, the vestry began interviewing interim rector candidates with hopes of having him or her in place shortly after Warren retires. The Reverend Canon Michael Hunn, Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of North Carolina will celebrate both services on Sunday, June 7th, with a congregational meeting following the 10:30 service. He will be able to respond to any questions we may have. Canon Hunn and Catherine Massey, Deputy Transition Officer will continue to work with and support All Saints until a new rector is with us. During the month of May, we continue to celebrate Warren and Ayliffe with thanks and love. Please continue to hold them and all of All Saints in prayer, especially as we pray together each Tuesday at noon. Thank you. Gale Gale Robins, Peoples' Warden

Matthew 25:35 Harvest for Hospitality is a campaign to benefit the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry. It is, first and foremost, a campaign to educate Episcopalians in North Carolina about the farmworkers, their life and their labor, raising our awareness of the hands that feed us. How does our food get to our tables? The food we eat, day in and day out, is directly provided by the hands of a human being who harvested it. We are connected to these workers in a direct and intimate way. Harvest for Hospitality is also a campaign to engage the Episcopalians of North Carolina in the work of the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry, with visits or donations, with music or building, or services or soccer games. The Harvest for Hospitality campaign aims to raise $400,000, which translates to $50 per Episcopal household in the Diocese of North Carolina. $50 is also the wage a farmworker earns by transporting two tons of sweet potatoes. Support from across the diocese has already raised over $200,000 toward this goal! The funds we raise will be used to develop the ministry in a variety of ways, details about which can be gleaned from the Harvest for Hospitality webpage, It is a time of transformation for the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry, and Harvest for Hospitality is working to help make it happen. If you have been making use of your 50in50 Box, it should be about half full with your daily dollars by now; if you haven t picked one up at church, there is still time to join in this vital outreach. (Some households will be able to give more, some less, of course, but together we will make a difference!) When the Day of Pentecost, May 24, is fully come, we will Harvest our gifts.

nc.org Page 5 Would you like to know more about Junior Daughters of the King? A Junior Chapter of The Daughters of the King is a group of three or more young women and girls, between the ages of 7 and 21 years of age, who make a promise to pray daily and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. Junior Daughters are under the guidance and support of a Senior Chapter, with a Senior Daughter serving as the Directress. A Junior Chapter offers a special opportunity to grow in love and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, while serving the church and community. Junior Daughters experience the joy of belonging to Christian fellowship with friends and mentors. They study the Bible, discuss their faith, support one another other, and pray for the needs of the community and world. A Junior Daughter: makes a promise of daily prayer and service to her Lord Jesus Christ; makes a promise to be Christ s holy servant and to extend God s Love to all people; works to grow in her Christian faith and commitment through fellowship, prayer, and service. If you are interested in participating in a chapter at All Saints, please contact Gale Robins, ( , or galerobins1946@gmailcom) or Jacque Stowers in the church office, St. Thérèse of Lisieux Chapter A Summer Quiet Day Your St. Therese of Lisieux Chapter of Daughters of the King" remains active. We are currently planning a "Retreat Day" for Saturday June 27 from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Once again, Carolyn Edge, a diocesan spiritual director, will be our guest speaker. She will be presenting her series on Women of the Bible, including Sarah, keeper of the covenant; The Woman at the Well, the first evangelist; and Mary Magdalene; the apostle to the apostles. Breakfast and Lunch will be served. Relevant materials, name tags and gift bags will also be provided. Registration forms are posted in the Gathering Space along with an informational flyer. Registration ends May 17th. This time we are inviting Daughters of the King and other women from St. Mary's, High Point and St. Timothy's Winston-Salem. All Daughters-at-Large in the area have also been invited, and Susan Cardwell, our diocesan DOK president will join us as well. We look forward to another successful day of learning, sharing and growing in His presence under the direction of Carolyn. Those of you who attended last June spread "the word", invite a friend. If you didn't come last year join us this year. It's lots of fun!! Registration is limited to 25 guests so register early. For anyone concerned about the registration fee full and partial scholarships are available. Just speak with a chapter member; Verna Hurley, Jacque Stowers, Gale Robins, Pat Bivens, Lyn Rundberg and Sally Brannan. Finally, we are planning a bible study in the coming months on the book "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World", by Joanne Weaver. We do it all For His Sake, our King and Savior; Jesus Christ. FHS, Verna Hurley

Page 6 nc.org Earthquakes in Nepal The 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on the morning of April 25, and the aftershocks that followed, left what could amount to over 10,000 dead, and caused inestimable damage across the small Himalayan nation. As always, Episcopal Relief & Deveolpment is already helping to meet urgent needs such as food, clean water and shelter, as well as support for assessment and search and rescue teams in the initial phase of the disaster. Working through the ACT Alliance in Nepal and with other partners in surrounding areas including northern India and southwest China, after the initial relief phase, this fund will continue to support longer-term recovery efforts. To find out what you can do, visit and yes, We re Still Work continues every Saturday at 3602 & 3604 Holts Chapel Road as volunteers from faith communities all around Greensboro help two families with whom Habitat for Humanity is building homes. Bob the Builder Hisamoto is All Saints team leader and has all the information you need on how you can lend a hand, a hammer, a paintbrush, or even help with a lunch on any of the Saturdays between now and turn-key day in June. There is also a Habitat Handbook in the Gathering Space that will help you find out how to volunteer. You can also donate toward Habitat s work on this and future Building on Faith projects. Come to the 2nd Annual... Community Justice Social Saturday, June 6 from 4 to 7 pm. If you were able to make the inaugural event last fall, you know that this is an opportunity to have some fun, to network among progressive allies, and to restore hope and energy for the substantial work that remains to be done. We enjoyed the experience so much that we couldn't wait until the fall to hold this year's event. Like last year, the community of Congregational United Church of Christ (400 W. Radiance Drive, Greensboro) plans to have great music, good food, activities for kids of all ages, and words of inspiration. They hope you will come and enjoy the afternoon. They also hope you will help publicize the event among friends, colleagues, and allies in your political network. Informational flyers will be available in the coming weeks to make this easy. At this moment in time, simply put this event on your calendar.

nc.org Page 7 A prayer for All Saints and all saints O God, who led us through the wilderness for forty years. guide us now as we begin this journey of discovery together. We ask for the humbleness to trust you and each other as we discern a new path for All Saints. We seek your strength when we feel overwhelmed and your comfort when we are weary. And we ask for courage when we will inevitably stumble. We pray for you to help us create a space where we can see and hear each other in genuine and loving ways, and that we will be careful with each other's hopes, concerns, and fears. Keep us mindful of the needs of those who may not be able to speak for reasons known and unknown to us. Help us make them feel heard. Fill us with your grace and wisdom that we may be led to decisions that will nurture All Saints and all who worship here. We give abundant thanks to you for the most precious gifts of Warren and Ayliffe and we pray that they may continue to delight in each other and serve you in new and vibrant ways. Instill in them clear memories, that they may never forget how much they are loved. We pray that this pilgrimage bring us closer to you, most gracious and giving Lord, and as evening comes, may the light of Galilee lead us home. We ask for these and all supplications in the name of your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. is a weekly e.newsletter from Bishop Curry.
