1 THE CHURCH OF S A I N T I G N AT I U S L OYOLA A ROMAN CATHOLIC COMMUNITY INSPIRED BY THE T R A D IT I O N O F S T. I G N A T IU S, ST. HEDWIG AND ST. M ARY'S ANNUNCIATION PARISHES. W e, the blended Catholic community of St. Ignatius Loyola, draw strength from Word and Sacrament, especially in the celebration of the Eucharist. Modeling Christ s work, we embrace our commitment to God s call. We remain faithful to the shared acts of prayer, study and service. Together we extend Christ s hospitality to others and light the path of peace for generations to come. Knowing God is more important than knowing about God. Karl Rahner, S.J.

Your support is deeply appreciated. Bob Walsh, Coordinator In recognition of our need to give, and the many needs of our church and parish, and in gratitude for God s gifts to us, we declare our willingness to return a portion of our Treasure to our parish, as part of our total Christian stewardship. Sunday Tithe $13, Priests Collection $1, Total $15, Weekly Operating Budget $19, QUESTION OF THE WEEK Twenty-third third Sunday in Ordinary Time Rich in faith Reading I Isaiah 35:4-7 (Israel s deliverance) Reading II James 2:1-5 (against favoritism) Gospel Mark 7:31-37 (healing of a deaf-mute) Key Passage Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Has not God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to be heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him? (James 2:5) Adult When has your faith in Jesus enabled you to speak out on an issue of importance? Child What does your belief in Jesus mean to you? FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM Special Needs Catechists Needed: Our special needs religious education program is in need of 2 catechists. If you are a loving, patient person, we would love to have you work with our children. The class meets twice monthly on Sunday mornings. For further information, please call Carmella Faust at Important upcoming dates: Sunday, September 9th - Opening Religious Education Liturgy - 10:30 AM - Church Sunday, September 9th - 9:15 AM - Opening family assembly for Grades 1-6 in Good Shepherd gym Wednesday, September 12th - Released time for Grades 7 & 8. NO student will be released from the Middle School without the parents previously signing a permission form. UPCOMING TOWN HALL MEETING WORSHIP Monday, September 10 at 6:30pm in Conlan Hall In August, an invitation to the entire parish was sent and also included in the bulletin. Our first conversations about the Ministry of WORSHIP took place during this initial Town Hall Meeting. Instruction and discussions centered on our best liturgical experiences and areas of growth. Our Parish Pastoral Council has been studying, praying and creating a process which will enable our parish to carry out its mission. Please consider joining us at our next Town Hall Meeting to continue the discussion on Worship and making St Ignatius the best it can be. Interest forms: Those wishing to be members of the new Worship Committee will be asked to complete an Interest Form. Forms will be available at the end of the Town Hall Meeting or at the rectory. They need to be returned by 5:00 PM September 19th to the office. W E E K L Y M E D I T A T I O N Helping the deaf man and touching him, Immediately the man s ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly. Once again we are reminded in today s Gospel reading of the wondrous deeds of Jesus. While most of us do not have the ability to touch others in this miraculous fashion, there are many ways that we can help those who are less fortunate. Ask yourself, Have I reached out and tried to make a difference in someone's life, or am I too consumed with my own well-being? Don t forget! Food Collection each and every weekend at the vestibules of Church and Chapel.

On Monday, he will fly to Rome to begin his final year of studies for his degree in Ecclesiology. We wish him safe travels and the guidance of the Holy Spirit as he writes and defends his thesis. His address will be: Rev. Alex J. Roche, Pontifical North American College, Vatican City State, Europe WELCOME TO OUR NEW PASTORAL ASSOCIATE With the sudden drop last year in the number of available priests, we learned early in the summer that Father Alex would not be replaced. Visiting clergy will be helping with Masses, but there is a great deal of other ministry that needs to be done. To fill the need, a lay person has been hired in the position of pastoral associate. While this position is new to our diocese, it has been common for a number of years in other parts of our country, Our Pastoral Associate is Mr. Anthony Butel and he will begin on Monday. A native of Kansas City, he has degrees in education, counseling, religious studies, and spirituality and so brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our parish. He will be working primarily with the ministries of Service and Word, but will also assist in other areas. Tony s wife, Catherine, is the new Diocesan Secretary for the Office of Parish Life, replacing Father John Lapera, our former pastor. They are currently residing in Scranton. CHICKEN BBQ - SEPTEMBER 15TH The Fundraising Committee will be sponsoring a Chicken Dinner on Saturday, September 15th. Serving times: 4:30 and 5:30 PM. Menu includes: 1/2 chicken, baked potato, corn salad, roll. Eat in or take out. Donation: $8.00. A bake sale will be held also. Tickets can be purchased at the rectory during regular business hours or by contacting Tom Havrilak at R.C.I.A.
