BRIGHT STAR COMMUNITY CHURCH John 8:31-32 (NIV) 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
John 8:31-32 (NIV) 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Galatians 5:1 1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
But why has Jesus set us free? What good is it to be free if we don t know what we are free to be?

As we continue in this series we will be using materials from Dr. Colvin Blandford Setting People Free from Satanic Spirits and Dr. Jerry & Carol Robeson book Strongman s His Name What s His Game because most of the things we need to be freed from are spiritual and must be addressed by the spirit.
However, Jesus shows us in our text that when we believe and abide in Him we are free to be an AUTHENTIC DISCIPLE, free to be ACQUAINTED intimately with the truth, and free to be FREE.
I. Free to be an Authentic Disciple John 8:31-32 (NIV) To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. [32] Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
A simple definition of disciple is to be a follower, learner or student of Jesus Christ, to follow the teaching and example of Jesus. A disciple, follower, believer, supporter, scholar: o believes the things Jesus taught, o has faith in the death of Jesus to forgive their sin, o drinks from the living water that only Jesus can give us which is the Holy Spirit, a disciple is filled with the Holy Spirit,
As an authentic disciple how do we follow Christ s example. An Authentic Disciple is someone who is True, Reliable, Dependable, Faithful, Genuine, Realistic, Bona Fide, not fake or false An Authentic Disciple starts to look like Jesus, Walk like Jesus, Talk like Jesus, have some of the mannerism of Jesus. Somebody might be asking the question why would we be this way.
II. Free to be Acquainted Intimately with the Truth John 8:31-32 (NIV) To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. [32] Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Jesus says we will ginosko (pronounced ghin-oce'-ko) know the truth that is TO KNOW BY EXPERIENCE, to learn to know, come to know, get a knowledge of, to become known, to know, understand, in the Jewish custom to know or will know was an phase, saying or expression for sexual intercourse between a man and a woman.
John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. Jesus is THE TRUTH. We come to personally know Jesus experientially as we come to know the truth. And as we know Jesus, the truth, we are saved.
1 Timothy 2:4 (NIV) [God our Savior] wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
1 Corinthians 2:9-12 [9] However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" [10] but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. [11] For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. [12] We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.
IV. Free to be Free John 8:31-32 (NIV) To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. [32] Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Romans 6:14 (MsgB) Sin can t tell you how to live. After all, you re not living under that old tyranny any longer. You re living in the freedom of God. We have come full circle we are set free because we believe in Jesus and abide in His Word.
John 8:36 (NIV) So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. We are free, yes free indeed! Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty we re free at last! Jesus has set us free to live free from the bondage of sin and death. We are free!
We are free to be an authentic disciple of Jesus following His example. We are free to be acquainted intimately with the truth; you will experience a personal relationship with Jesus, the truth and come to know Him more and more. We are free to be free no longer living in bondage to sin and death. Yes, we are free at last!
I am free Praise the Lord, I'm free No longer bound No more chains holding me Soul is resting And it s just another blessing Praise the Lord Hallelujah, I'm free I ve got to say it one more
I am free Praise the Lord, I'm free I ve been saved and sanctified Filled with His holy holyness I m resting It's another blessing Praise the Lord Hallelujah, I'm free
BRIGHT STAR COMMUNITY CHURCH John 8:31-32 (NIV) 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
