When you register your bonus card online with Apple Place Nursery School (ID# 26368), every time you shop at Giant, Apple Place earns money. You can register two schools with the program and it does not affect your gas reward points. To register online go to and in the red box labeled 'for customers' select 'register your card'. Sign in with the first three letters of your last name and the 11 digit bonus card number. Click 'look up'. Then enter Apple Place's Id# and click 'register'. If you registered last year, you do not need to register again, although Giant recommends verifying that Apple Place is still registered on your card. If you do not want to go online and register, there is a sign-up sheet in the lobby. Please provide your last name and your 11 digit bonus card number on the sheet and we will register the card for you. Thank you for your participation! By signing up, you are helping to support a vital area of children's ministry at FUMC! With your help we raised $ for Apple Place during the school year. Please continue to support Apple Place Nursery School! A special invitation to Veterans, Family Members of Deceased Veterans and Guests. SEPTEMBER BOOKS A Disciple s Path, by James A. Harnish-A book that would be useful as an introduction to discipleship or as a renewal for existing members. Harnish encourages us to become engaged followers of Jesus Christ by upholding the church with prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness as with our membership vows. As a result, we are more involved in the ministry that brings a change in our lives and the lives of others. Gladhearted Disciples, by Chris Folmsbee- Even making a small shift in our daily actions can move us closer to understanding what it means to act like a disciple and not merely sound like one. As we learn to be more like Jesus in our faith, we can become authentic witnesses to others and encourage others by how we live. All the Places to Go, by John Ortberg- The author encourages the reader to see the countless open doors God places before us every day. We need to learn to recognize these open doors since they are opportunities provided by God to act with God and for God. How we choose to respond will determine the life we will lead and the person we become. Additional books in the library on discipleship-transformational Discipleship, by Eric Geiger; Disciple-making Church, by Bill Hull; Celebration of Discipline, by Richard Foster.

4 10:45 am Worship The Gathering and Welcome Prelude Elevation Gordon Young *The Call to Worship L In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth and saw that it was good; then God rested from his work, blessed the day of rest, declaring it a holy day. P On this Holy day, we come to worship you Creator God, who formed us in your very image and breathed into us the breath of life. You formed us to be your children and made us to reign over all the land and animals. L You created us to live in a rhythm of work, rest and worship. Everything was ours to enjoy, with one exception, the tree in the middle of the garden. We did not heed your warning, Do not eat from the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil. We listened, instead to the Tempter, who convinced us we could be our own God. That choice, O, God, has caused us to live in a fallen world, with struggles, disease, and death. P Yet, your steadfast love endures forever. When we turn away, and our love fails, your love remains. Your love never fails. *Opening Hymn God, Whose Love Is Resigning o er Us UMH 100 *Prayer of Confession *Choral Prayer Change My Heart, O God FWS 2152 *Passing of the Peace Special Music Holy Spirit Torwalt arr. Martin If God has touched you in some way during the service today, and you would like to know more, please feel free to speak to any of the worship leaders. They will share with you how you can receive God s forgiveness and a new life in Christ. Congregational Health is sponsoring two events starting in September: If you are interested in being trained as a Stephen's Minister or would like more information about Stephens, please contact Gail ( ext. 207). Training will start Monday, September 14th at 1:00 pm. For those who are experiencing the loss of a loved one, FUMC is starting a GriefShare Recovery Support Group. It will start Tuesday, September 15th at 7:00 pm. If you are interested or would like more information about GriefShare, please contact Gail ( ext. 207). To provide childcare during our 9:30 and 10:45 am services on Sunday mornings, First Lights Children's Ministry relies on parents, grandparents, and individuals who love children. We need many volunteers each week to provide quality care. Right now we are in great need of more volunteers for this important service. The 'nursery' is often the first place new families visit when they arrive at FUMC, and our care of their children may play a large role in whether they return on future occasions. What a wonderful opportunity we have to serve children and their families! For more information on our Childcare Services and to see how this area of service can benefit you, please pick up a brochure at the Welcome Desk in the lobby. If you would like to serve our youngest children during one service or more per month, please contact Brianna Renshaw at ext. 205 or at kidsedfumc@gmail.com. First Lights Children's Ministry is looking for volunteers to help care for the children in Cradle Roll on Wednesday Nights from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. If you enjoy cuddling, holding, rocking and singing to snuggly babies, Cradle Roll is the place for you! Please contact Brianna (kidsedfumc@gmail.com or ext. 205) if you are interested.

TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS (CCLI ) Oh, weary mind, oh, troubled soul, all the broken pieces that you hold. Turn them over, give them up, and then watch what Jesus does. Oh, heavy heart, oh heavy load, lay it down and let it go. Leave your broken yesterdays in the open arms of grace. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face and watch the world grow dim standing next to Him in the light of His glory and grace. Oh, frozen hope, oh, broken dreams, just like a boat tossed on the raging seas. You will walk on waves again when You have set your gaze on Him. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face and watch the world grow dim standing next to Him in the light of His glory and grace. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face.
