1 Beaverdam M & ouzie s hapel M: wo mazing hurches, ne wesome od 2018 J- ssue 6 ear hurch amily, John esley ounder of the Methodist hurch. s surely as the seasons of the year change, so do nited Methodist pastors change. e are in one of those seasons of change as the new appointments were set at our irginia nnual onference in June. laudia has moved to amsey Memorial hurch and have been happily appointed to ouzie s hapel and Beaverdam M. ur history of itinerancy can be traced back to the merican Methodist piscopal bishop rancis sbury in the 1760 s. tinerancy was seen by John esley, the founder of the Methodist hurch, as a way to most effectively and comprehensively carry out the mission of od and the Bishop rancis sbury transmission of the gospel. ho am to question those guys? ll know is ne of the first two bishops that am humbled and excited to be appointed to this charge and can t wait of the Methodist piscopal hurch in the nited tates. to serve in ministry with all of you. peaking of seasons, cclesiastes, hapter 3 starts off with or everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. n this chapter it goes on to list several a time for statements. ne of these is speaking louder than the others for me today. t s the latter half of verse 6, a time for keeping and a time for throwing away. his is hitting home for me now because my wife, ina, and are preparing to move into the parsonage. e both are finding the things that we need to throw away and leave behind, as well as those cherished items that we want to make sure make the move to our new to us home. ow am sure that that the writer in cclesiastes had a different intent in his writing. wonder if they were coming from the place that as we get closer to od that we need to throw away those old ways, those ways that hinder our relationship with od and that we should focus and keep those spiritual practices that draw us closer to our reator. suggest that with the drawing of this new season, that we take the time and evaluate what is drawing us closer to od and make sure we hold on to it. eace, wen ontacting everend wen aylor: hurch: ome: (o ome ater) ell: beaverdamumc@embarqmail.com

7 7 eliveries he ork hurch 37.0 ouzie's hapel/beaverdam M hurch of our avior 98.0 otal have been out of town for most of the month of June, but the ood Ministry continued to work. will validate the delivery numbers and report in the eptember ircuit riter what the final tally was for our fiscal year. July starts our new year marking the 14 th year the ood Ministry has been supporting families in our community. hose of us who started the ood Ministry 14 years ago are also 14 years older. he heavy work has taken its toll on our members and we were not sure we would be able to continue our efforts. ell it looks like we are going to press on but will have to turn down tree donations that are too large for us to work on. s you are aware the current ood Ministry is comprised of three wood yards and supported by 11 churches in the west anover area. am pleased to report that a new church is forming in the Montpelier area, he ompass hurch, with a much younger and enthusiastic congregation, and they have indicated an interest in supporting the community by working with the ood Ministry and est anover mergence ction eam () ood antry. e are in the preliminary stages of scheduling a meeting sometime in July with ompass hurch to see how they may best integrate into the ood Ministry and ood antry. ook for additional information about the ompass hurch joining the ood Ministry in the eptember addition of the ircuit riter. t last count, the ood Ministry had three jobs lined up for the summer so far. e received an this past week from a fourth person wanting to donate wood. es, we need more wood. ouzie s/bm delivered at least 144 loads of wood last year and our wood yard was pretty much cleaned out of seasoned wood. e have a nice start in filling it up again this summer. ood from our summer cutting and splitting jobs will sometimes be delivered to families to get them ready for fall. iven the option of hauling wood to a family or to the wood yard, we would much rather deliver the wood, so we don t have to handle the wood twice. hanks for all your support, and hope you have a great summer. himney weep rogram ur himney weep rogram is about ready to get into full swing. ouzie s hapel and Beaverdam M will be teaming with he ork hurch in oswell, and hurch of ur aviour in Montpelier again this year to clean and inspect approximately 30 chimneys this summer. e are seeking to partner with a himney weep business that will clean, inspect, and, if necessary, repair chimneys at a reasonable cost. our generous support to the ood Ministry s hicken BBQ, donations, and grants from appahannock lectric o-p have made this potentially lifesaving service available to our families possible. hank ou!!! he riendship Book ome people might travel the world, go on courses, or go into retreat to try to find themselves. thers, who might have been defined by their children or their work, will have moved to a time in their lives when these roles no longer apply. o you know what Mahatma andi would say to these people? e d say: et lost! o, he wouldn t be being nasty, he would be giving very practical advice. fter all, as he said: he best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.
8 8 4 th of July arade Beaverdam M will be open that morning on ednesday, July 4th from 8:30 a.m. until the parade begins at 10 a.m. to offer free water and access to the bathrooms for the parade entries as they line up and wait for the start of the parade. ome help hand out water and point the way to the potties! here is always wonderful music, inspiring fellowship and delicious food afterwards. Mark your calendars and come enjoy the fun. 9 5 ays to et loser to Jesus he closer we get to Jesus, the stronger and happier we become in facing life and its ordeals. ometimes in life you may not have that certain someone to encourage and push you forward, but when you experience radical intimacy with Jesus, every aspect of life seems to just fit in and fall into place. etting closer to Jesus is an ongoing process pend quality quiet time with Jesus. Quiet time can involve you reading various gospel oriented books or listening to devotionals or even hristian music. Just taking some time off to sit and think about certain verses or passages from the Bible would also amount to quiet time. t's frankly just isolating yourself from this noisy world and letting od know that you are waiting on him. o quality quiet time would surely make you feel closer to Jesus. 2. ttend church regularly. t doesn't matter what church, as long as it is Bible based and teaches the Bible truths. Be sure when you are attending you try to engage yourself in the mass. hen hymns are being sung, sing along from the heart, when scripture is being read listen intently and focus your attention on the words. Being engaged in church can have you leaving much more fulfilled and feeling closer to Jesus. f you are not able to attend church, you might want to turn on your and take in a service from a church of your liking. 3. eceive communion. emember what communion represents and what that means to you and how communion will affect your walk with Jesus. hether it be your first communion (receiving Jesus's body) or your next communion (confirming that you will follow Jesus), think about Jesus and pray to him to prepare yourself. Be sure to read your bible (as stated in the last step). 4. ead the Bible. he ord has blessed you with the Bible so that you can get to know im better, among many other reasons. o, take advantage of having this great book with you by exploring it and enjoying it. ry to also follow some of the instructions e has given you in the Bible. ry to analyze how each verse or passage can be applied in your life. or instance, salm 46 verse 1 says "od is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.". o next time you see trouble brewing at your workplace or college or wherever, you can look it in the eye and recite this verse aloud. his will surely bring you closer to Jesus and you will feel his presence even more. ive by the Bible. on't add to it nor subtract anything what is in the Bible, was meant to be in the Bible. 5. alk to Jesus through prayer. o Jesus you are his precious child. e loves you no matter what problem you are facing. ell him what you are up to or what your plans are or why you are sad or what you need and so on. e is your ather. e wants what's best for you and most of all he wants you! o to him for everything and you will feel closer to him in no time. e wants you to pray in the pirit as well as in the understanding and e wants you to pray for other people so that they will repent and so that they will be healed. nswer to hidden object he ice cream cone is hidden on page 5, in the top of the nique Ministry s grocery bag. nswers to Zig Zag,,,,,, M age 5 uzzle nswers nswers to ord ind MB Z B B J Z Q Q B M M M Z J Q Z J Z B B M Q
10 10 Beaverdam and ouzie s hapel nited Methodist hurch.. Box 67 Beaverdam, a harged p By he oly pirit by im ee "..according to is mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the oly pirit,.." itus 3:5 B ne of the best comparisons to regeneration by the oly pirit that have ever heard was that of a dead car battery brought back to life by charging it, which went something like this: hen a car battery is fully discharged, all the washing and cleaning of the outside case of the battery that you may care to do will not make one bit of difference. he battery is still dead. hen one wants to recharge a dead battery, you have to charge it with an outside source of energy, very much like we are transformed by the power of the oly pirit to become more like our ord Jesus. t is just the way it is. Many may try to make themselves holy by their own will, but they are just as spiritually dead as when they started thinking that way. ur ather gave a bit of a spark to each of us who came into this world spiritually dead and is oly pirit ignites that spark into a new creation, somewhat like a battery charger does what the battery cannot do for itself: become regenerated and placed in service. always liked that example and hope that another person out there will too. im ee is a retired owan who loves all of od's creatures. rticles in this issue: etter from the everend July-ugust 2018 alendars est anover ood Ministry ews from the ews ime for ome un... ay chedules lus more...
