You will not certainly die, the serpent said to the woman. For od knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like od, knowing good and evil. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. he also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. hen the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. hen the man and his wife heard the sound of the L od as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the L od among the trees of the garden. 9 ut the L od called to the man, Where are you? Have you eaten from the tree that commanded you not to eat from? he man said, he woman you put here with me she gave me some fruit from the tree, and ate it. hen the L od said to the woman, What is this you have done? he woman said, he serpent deceived me, and ate. Let s think for a moment about what caused them to make such a big mistake. When you are tempted to do something wrong, you can defeat temptation too. ecide to obey od and do what the ible says. ell the children, Jesus overcame atan s temptations by answering, t is written and then quoting a cripture verse that made it clear that what atan was tempting him to do was wrong. n today s language, instead of t is written, we might say, od says or he ible says and then quote a verse we remember. hat s part of the reason why it s so important to memorize verses from the ible.
