A BIG THANK YOU to our 5 volunteers Jean Gamble, Jeong Owen, Pastor Sarah, Sue Williams and myself for frying the chicken the day before and then serving on Tuesday. Rock Run topped off the meal with a variety of homemade desserts. Volunteers from Chapel and Havre de Grace UMC were busy serving groceries, waitressing and assisting our guests. Grace Place continues to receive donations of bread, bakery items and some fruits and vegetables from Panera Bread, Shoprite at Beard s Hill, Wawa and Weiss. However shelves are running bare for nonperishable canned items. A food drive is planned for the future to help stock the shelves with certain items. More information to come. 8 Page 8 The UMW would like to thank all of the volunteers and members of the congregation who supported our two fundraisers this past year. The Applebee s Pancake Breakfast and Sub Sale was a hugh success. May 1 st was our last formal meeting before our summer break. Our program Different Ways to Show Random Acts of Kindness was led by Bonnie String. Speaking of kindness, Judy Tibbs has graciously been designing and making cards for the UMW to send to members of the congregation. Judy sent this note to the ladies, At the next meeting of the UMW, please express my appreciation for the lovely flowers. They couldn t have come at a better time. After over three weeks with bronchitis and going on three weeks with this leg problem, I needed something to cheer me up. They are beautiful. I m happy to make cards whenever needed. Judy, the UMW thanks you and appreciates your kindness. The UMW will be preparing a meal for Vacation Bible School volunteers and their children on Wednesday, July 19. Ladies, we can surely see ways that God s abundant grace touches our lives each and every day. Remember to make spontaneous gifts in your World Thank Offering Box throughout the summer for God s Sightings. Please bring your World Thank Offering box to our next meeting. The UMW will resume after the summer break with our first meeting to be Monday, August 28th at 6:00pm with Linda Sims preparing dinner for us. There will be NO September meeting. Watch for more details to come. Have a safe, happy and Blessed summer! Linda Shifflett UMW President

It s making memories of fun, games, new friends, & singing around a campfire. The most important memory of Son Rock will be: making the life changing decision to follow Jesus. Our summer camp will be the ideal place to lead your child to Christ. We will provide evangelism opportunities and the message of salvation in every lesson. Register your kids to attend Son Rock VBS Camp at Hopewell UMC and have them make memories that will last a lifetime. 11 Page 11 PASTOR S PAGE Happy June! Discipleship. Have you noticed that I preach and pray on discipleship a lot I m sure you have but have you stopped to ask yourself (or me) why? I ll give you the short answer it s important The longer answer is better though. To me discipleship is not just something that is nice to be, it is essential to my, our, walk with Jesus Christ. It means allowing God s grace to empower us to not just to enter the sanctuary on Sunday for worship but commit our lives, our energy, to the service of God s kingdom here and now! Discipleship includes many things but the big four are: Worship, Bible Study (individually AND with other believers), Serving in God s Name, and Outreaching to the Community. My prayer for the Susquehanna Charge is to have a 100% of the members and regular visitors participating in these 4 key areas of discipleship! As we worship together we celebrate all God did, does, and will do. As we study the scriptures and apply them to our lives we strengthen our understanding of God s will for us and become ready to speak God s truth in all situations. Serving in God s name puts what we learn in study to use and extends our praise of God from the responses we give in worship (such as the offering, song, prayer, and communion) to our whole lives. In outreaching to the community, we provided an invitation for others, who most likely do NOT know Christ, to grow in the grace of our Savior and receive the gift of salvation. Outreach expresses to others the importance of our lives with Christ and our assurance of life eternal. It invites others to also receive. I ve been asking you individually, and as a church, to consider what it is God is calling you (us) to do in the name of Christ. I invite you to continue to pray over and listen for God s calling to receive what it is God is speaking to you. Share it with me and share it with each other, that we may pray over it and ask the Lord our God to equip us to respond. For those who have shared your calling, and those who haven t, keep watch of our News & Announcements as we look to envision how we can bring to life the callings you have identified: ministry with children beyond our walls; comforting and loving persons who are homebound, in nursing homes and hospice; finding ways to share the Gospel with our unchurched community, and to shine God s light and grace through our lives. BUT while you are waiting, continue to allow God to equip you for ministry! Participate in worship with your presence, your voice, your whole person. Engage in a Bible Study that explores God s word and participate eagerly read your Bible, engage in conversation, allow yourself to be guided to deeper understanding. Serve in God s name participate at Grace Place, make blankets for Threads of Hope or other ministries, help maintain the church, pray for one another and the community (open the newspaper and pray over the stories you read!) And reach out to the community! Extend an invitation to worship, the church picnic, an impromptu cup of coffee, a walk, movie, game night, or bonfire. I pray that each of you will live as Disciples of Jesus Christ and I ask you to pray for me also. Discipleship isn t easy but the reward of serving our LIVING God is worth the effort! Living for Christ and inviting you to do also, Pastor Sarah
