2 Happy Birthday to. Cherylee Corcoran Monday 5 th September Zali de Zeeuw Thursday 8 th September Hi Friends, For some years now we have been planning to build a High School in Samasodu Village. This continues our relationship we have had with Samasodu Village over the last twelve years where we have constructed a Rural Health Centre, housing for staff, sanitation and water supply. We have also ran many community programs which have involved over 160 team members participating in 7 separate projects. Recently land declarations in Samasodu Village were finalised which has enabled us to move to the next stage of planning. To enable the planning to progress a team will travel to Samasodu in November this year. The attached itinerary outlines the specific dates. A limited number of people are able to join the team for this trip. During the project our team will be doing the following; Plotting the entire site including building locations where the High School will be built Surveying and assessing the viability of water supply to the High School site Performing maintenance on existing infrastructure we have installed Conducting numerous community meetings and consulting with the village stake holders Some of the experiences to expect as part of this project include; Travel in a third world country where Malaria and other mosquito borne diseases are prevalent Extensive travel on ships and small boats to get to our destination (around 60 hours) Staying in shared accommodation in the village that is very basic Extensive movement through dense jungle for up to 8 hours continuously Extreme heat and humidity The possibility that you may miss one or several meals Working up to 12 hours a day and sometimes more Subordinating to the leadership team and their instructions Supporting the objectives of the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia and SWIM If you are interested in being part of the 2016 team then please contact Rod Peet on repeet777@hotmail.com or The cost of the trip will be $1600 which includes airfares, connections, food, travel insurance and all transport within the Solomon Islands. RTC Monthly No August, 2016 The RTC Monthly is in the church foyer, and attached to the church bulletin. Ministry Internship Opportunity Wedderburn Christian Campsite was established over 50 years ago. There are many facets to our ministry here including: running school camps, retreats for churches and community groups, corporate development programs, as well as being heavily involved in Christian ministry through our school holiday children s camps and other community programs. Wedderburn's mission is to use our site to promote the gospel through word and deed. We would like to grow the ministry opportunities here and one of the steps we are taking is offering our sixth internship in Christian Ministry. We are really excited to be able to offer this position and look forward to inputting into the life of our new intern. 4 G.O.S.P.E.L. Prayer Points for September 1. We praise God for 10 blessed years of partnership with Christian Reformed Fellowship of India (CRFI). We are truly humbled that God has so blessed this harvesting ministry in Central Western India. There will be a time celebration and thanksgiving at the retreat. 2. Please pray that God would bless the preparations for the annual retreat in Saputara at the end of September. Phillip Scheepers, Craig van Echten and Bert Kuipers will bring teaching from God s Word. Some 90 leaders and workers will be gathered. 3. Please pray for Hephzibah. She is the daughter of one of our missionaries who needs treatment for 2 of her heart valves that are not functioning properly. 4. Please remember those believers in South Gujarat whose crops have been destroyed due to torrential Monsoon rain at end of July. 5. Kindly pray for the following three women in the ministry: a. Devli is the wife of one of our worker in South Gujarat. She s going through Chemo therapy for cancer. b. Vittal, wife of another leader has been suffering much pain due to kidney stones c. Babita, wife of another of our workers is having treatment for Tuberculosis. PRAY FOR THE WORLD (via Prayer Action Team) This week :- Mayotte (Africa) Population: 199,065 (73 % unreached) Largest Religion: Muslim Reli Pop. Pop % Christians Evangelicals Muslim Challenges for Prayer Please support ministries for prayer: a) Bible translation. The NT is available in Shimaore and OT translation is in progress. There is no Scripture whatsoever in Shibushi. AIM workers also run a literacy programme to encourage reading of the Shimaore NT; pray for more students. b) Radio. There are two main gospel broadcasts from local FM stations an open door for witness to the whole territory. c) Other media. The JESUS film and Good News Media materials have been dubbed into Shimaore. Pray for their strategic use.

5 RTC Preaching Conference 2016 Have you booked your place for this year's preaching conference yet? This week we've interviewed the RTC faculty (see below). We're looking forward to John's session on preaching Genesis 1-3, Phillip's session on preaching Genesis 4-11 and Murray's session on preaching the gospel of Joseph. The RTC Faculty John de Hoog Murray Capill Phillip Scheepers 1. John, what does Genesis contribute to a commitment to preach to Christians from the Old Testament? To get the message of the New Testament right we need the Old Testament. Someone has called the Pentateuch (the five book of Moses) the Old Testament of the Old Testament, and that s not a bad comment because the rest of the Old Testament flows out of the Pentateuch. But of course, the rest of the Pentateuch flows out of Genesis. God gave us Genesis as the beginning of the true story of the world; we d better not ignore it! 2. Murray, how is Genesis fundamental for people who wish to live gospel lives in Australian society? Too easily in comfortable Australian churches we reduce Christian life to believing our sins are forgiven and developing a personal walk with Jesus. Genesis reminds that we are actually part of something much bigger. It shows us that living gospel lives is about being part of God s reclaiming, restoring work in this world. It assures us that he uses really ordinary, messy people in that. And it reminds us that we are blessed to be a blessing. You can t read Genesis and come away with a small, insular, inward or smug view of gospel life. 3. Phillip, why is Genesis such an important book in the work of world mission today? For our theology of mission to be truly biblically based we need to "begin at the beginning". This will help enable us to see the richness of the mission of God throughout the ages and will also help us to steer clear of superficial and purely pragmatic motivations for mission. us at: admin@rtc.edu.au
